KD, we've had this conversation, you and me, here in the RT several times. Certainly not all crimes that are committed are due to the mentally ill. Our justice system seldom looks for the causes of crime in order to prevent future occurances of it, sending them only to punishment and teaching the perpetrator only to re-offend - but next time to leave no witnesses behind. That doesn't make much sense to me. It is both the failure of the justice system and society that we focus on punishment, rather than trying to help these people who commit crimes.

It's a difficult issue to discuss, isn't it smenkveld? Society tends to want to get rid of things it doesn't understand, especially if considered 'evil'. I feel the same as you do sometimes but if understanding deviant behavior brings us closer to having a better society, I'm all for it. (These people still give me the creeps though.)
Yes, we discussed it with the priests Borillar and I agree that sexual maturity just isn't there for some people. They're stuck at a certain age. I do feel, however, that once a person knows he has this 'problem', he has more responsibility to himself and others to avoid situations that stimulate this behaviour. If these acts gave the person an unpleasureable experience, I'm sure they'd learn real fast how to avoid them whether brain related or not.

it isn't a case of like or dislike when you go to treat the mentall ill. It is always dislike, because it reminds us of how terribly afflicted that we can become. What do we currently offer pedophiles for early treatment? I have no idea. Are there pedophiles who see absolutely nothing wrong with raping a small child? I'm sure that there are. Of those, we can add sociopathic tendancies to the list of illnesses. They have two mental illnesses instead of one. All of them need to be treated before they commit an offence against a small child.
Does a pedophile have to be an adult first? I mean, physically/age-wise?

Oh yes...they're so mentally ill that they have formed a large organization....to PROMOTE their illness. They believe laws should be changed to ALLOW sex with children. They don't see themselves as 'sick' and in need of help...they feel repressed by our laws protecting our children.
Want to make yourselves sick? Go read the NAMBLA web site. Tell them they're mentally ill, because they sure don't think they are.

Ask anyone in the mental health field about it and they'll tell you that anyone who sees the rest of the world as sick but not themselves is probably mentally ill.
I've heard of NAMBLA before and I do not have any idea what it is that they want. If they want the legalization of sex between men and young boys, then they are sociopathic and do not see the psychological harm that they would be doing anymore than those who see nothing wrong with adult women having sex with young boys. It is being self-centered on their own needs and not giving a damn about anyone else's. That's really mentally ill behavior. They should be treated before they harm someone.
