party liners as here

Yeah, there's that. But a lot of it I find humorous. Especially the trivial and usually irrelevant posts about Clinton, Gore, democrats, etc. They really believe, I think, that anyone who holds opposing viewpoints gets upset by that sort of comment, assuming that everyone worships political leaders like they do Bush. There are one or two who can present decent arguments though.

But as I mentioned to junkmama, I think that there are as many good posters on political subjects here as there. Certainly more subtle wit here, which I like. And we tend to cover more issues.

Well, I'm registered as 'krs' there but don't have a clue to the password and it was through an ISP that I haven't used since a year before we moved. I think that I posted only once to tell spaz off because he seemed to be seeing me behind every tree - saying that this poster or that poster was me when they weren't.

Hi Irene - I read the whole thread. Snakebait articulates his/her opinions well. But I didn't agree with most of what he/she said.

When snakebait started out with "UN sanctions be damned"....that pretty much takes any argument off the discussion table. Because that's pretty much what this whole issue is about. Iraq not complying with the many UN sanctions. It only leaves the US to decide what action is in it's own best interest. And since this administration, the clinton administration and the Bush 1 administration before them believe Saddam should be disarmed/removed that's what they're working toward.

Scary you ask??? Sure...to listen and believe Snakebait's take on what is likely in his/her opinion to happen. That's always the action those who oppose what an administration is doing take. Scare the #*!@ out of them....make up senarios that will keep them from sleeping and they'll oppose any action.

Irene, I know you lean towards the liberal side, and I believe you are against war (?)...and you know I have no problem with that. I just don't think the US is making a wrong decision in removing these weapons from the hands of Saddam.

Well I disagree, but thank you for taking the time read and comment.

Unlike some posters here, I don't believe that insults or antagonism are effective methods of persuading anyone to change their mind about anything. However, if you feel differently, please let me know, and I'll dig out my dictionary and give it a shot.

I knew you would disagree....that didn't surprise me.

Not sure at all what your last statement was all about. Want to clue me in please?

Linda_K, you've been at the RT too long or developed a heck of a thick skin if you don't even notice any more.

Well I guarantee you posting here has forced me to develop that 'tough' skin.

I agreed with what you said about discussing the issues without the insults, etc....just wasn't clear on what you meant by your last sentence. 'However if you feel differently.....' At first I thought you might be suggesting you see me as handing out the insults. And was just trying to clarify if you're seeing my posts that way. If that is the way you feel...I have no problem with you saying so. I'm just not clear.

No Linda, I was offering to insult you, if you thought doing so might result in your changing your mind to my way of thinking.

Sorry....a little slow and acting a little defensive there, I was.

Well....hey...maybe we've been doing it the wrong way. [teasing]

But you know you're right. And I did notice that when reading those in disagreement with one another on the OTWA thread. People just debating their side, without the insults...digs...etc. Nice.

...saying that this poster or that poster was me when they weren't.

Yes, I even had that sort of experience once, fleetingly, in relation to another poster at a now defunct board.

But I've always been more interested in the serious aspects of posting, and the extraneous game-playing and board wars, even the more subtle ones, don't much interest me when the whole world is teetering on the brink of collapse and chaos and we have citizens who actively advocate a police state, consciously or not.

But any subject, in any form, that people want to pursue is fine with me. I have never been an advocate of censorship except in extreme instances.

There are good posters at OTWA and I'm pleased to see more people whom I know there awakening to the complexity of the challenges which face our way of life from within as well as without.

Since almost everyone in the nation, from what I've read, left, right, up, down, and in between, have warned Bush that he has to talk with the North Koreans if he wants to avoid a war, then we have to assume that he doesn't. Which brings us back to that sanity question again.

I am really concerned that bush will cause an enormous conflagration in the mid-east. This is the first incident of this type in over 30 years and it is directly related to the bush regime. Bush started the tension by including them in the axis of evil which could only be seen as a threat to North Korea. Refusing to negotiate or lift sanctions only escalates this potentially volatile situation.

When Richard Armitage, Deputy Secretary of State, and an unquestioned hawk, last week told Congress that we should have a "bilateral discussion" with North Korea to work out a solution, Bush let it be known that he was "off-the-wall angry" with Armitage's testimony.

This is an article that reports Armitage's visit to Pakistan to attempt damage control there with Bush's mangling of the Iraqi war. It shows intelligent statesmanship and diplomacy and hopefully signals a change in direction.

Pakistan in complex equation on Iraq: Saddam not popular: US

By Anwar Iqbal

WASHINGTON, March 3: The United States understands that Pakistan faces a "very complicated equation" on Iraq and wants to resolve this conflict quickly to the benefit of Pakistan and other nations interested in the region , says Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

.............

Mr Armitage said it was not right to say that even on the issue of Iraq, the US had given an ultimatum to the international community, saying "either you are with us or against us."
