Nothing about Austin shocks me, after all it's the most politically liberal of all Texas cities and home of the most liberal college in Texas. The same school that has on staff a professor that critized the U.S. saying we deserved the attack on 9/11. His name, Robert Jensen

Well Bear, it wont shock you to know all the gifts(money) to UT, are by Republican supporters.

What I don't understand is that the chicks promote killing a spouse abuser in their song "Earl's Got to Die" or whatever. I understand if one was to kill an abuser in self-defense, but the song indicates that the two women could have sought help rather than killing him. But about 20 years or more, the resources weren't there as they are now.
Yeah, the Toby Keith jab was very well noted by the media. I'll take Toby any day over the chicks.
I haven't heard any chicks songs either. I listen to one country channel because they haven't played their songs, at least I haven't heard any. The other country station that I would listen to on a regular basis, I deleted it from my radio memory as soon as their song came on it.

Got this in the mail today. Thought many would enjoy:
I Love Little Johnny......
It was the first day of school and the teacher thought she'd get to know the kids by asking them their names and what their fathers did for a living.
The first little girl said, "My name is Mary and my daddy is a postman."
The next little boy said, "I'm Andy and my Dad is a mechanic."
It was then little Johnny's turn and he said, "My name is Johnny and my father is a striptease dancer in a cabaret for gay men."
The teacher gasped and quickly moved on, but later, in the school yard, the teacher approaches Johnny privately and asks if it was really true that his Dad dances nude in a gay bar.
Little Johnny blushed and said, "No, he's really a guitar player for the Dixie Chicks, but I was too embarrassed to say so
REAMOND is right.
The First Amendment has nothing to do with what goes on in the private sector. If a radio station doesn't want to play a song for whatever reason, it's their right. Just as it is Wal-Mart's right to not carry certain books and magazines. The beauty of this is that if you don't like these companys' views, don't listen, don't shop there.
Second, the Constitution does not protect you from the consequences of exercising your freedom. If you are standing on a corner shouting that you hate the Chinese (as an example, I'm NOT saying you do), there is nothing stopping a Chinese man from coming up and giving you a solid right hook. He can be arrested for assault, but it will have nothing to do with his right freedom of expression.
Your point about media exposure and whatnot would only be valid if the media was owned by the government. Because it's owned by the private sector, it would be against the Constitution to force a radio station, newspaper, tv station or the like to put on all sides of the story, even if they don't want to. If we allow the government to get involved in the private sector and force the media, companies, etc. under the guise of protecting the freedom of expression, it voids everything about that amendment.
As for selling out and selling cd's, total bummer for music. I'm considering finding an attorney that was an old school Metallica fan and get him to do a class action lawsuit against Metallica for selling out. They used to always say they wouldn't and that it was all about the fans. I've heard some of the new cd. Nope, not about the fans that made them popular. Sounds more like it was for the record company and their wallets.

The thing that puzzles me is why the right-wingers are so obsessed with this. Certainly, they have an absolute right to be obsessed with this ... just as I have an absolute right to wonder why they're obsessed. Could it be .....hmmm..... misdirection?
"The Dixie Chicks are anti-American! Therefore Bush did not lie about Weapons of Mass Destruction! And even if he did, it's counterbalanced by the fact that the Dixie Chicks are anti-American!"
Yeah. Whatever gets you through the night.
We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.
