Helen - I'm curious as to why you believe that a child that was abducted, held hostage for months and sexually assaulted does not need some type of therapy.

The therapy that a loving family and a good community and friends can give far exceeds that of a "therapist" who may or may not be qualified.
I'm curious as to why you believe that the family, friends and community cannot handle the problem.

It's the book and movie deals that sour things a bit Helen. If there weren't any deals in the horizon, it wouldn't bother me that she's not getting therapy, but if she's having a difficult time discussing it with her own parents, how's she going to feel when she sees this nightmare played over and over in theatres, or all her friends and their friends read the books about her ordeal? Also, if she's not talking about it much, how are the poeple that write the books and do the movies going to know what really happened to her? She's only 15 and not old enough, in my opinion, to be exploited this way by her own parents for profit.

Kraftdinner,
First, I don't know that she's having a difficult time discussing it with her parents. They let her choose when she wants to talk about it. That seems appropriate to me.
The movie and book deal may be therapeutic if handled right. With the family working on those projects, Elizabeth will see family solidarity -- unlike the alternative of self absorption which would be the case with a therapist.
