It's not just patriotism but a severe case of nationalism that causes such antagonism toward Canada or any other country. The superiority of the United States is stressed even when it's not superior in some cases. What for example is superior about the health care system here or the educational system.

And there is a strange inability to see the resemblance between two sets of facts. For example torture by Saddam is different than torture by Americans not only in intensity or technique - which it may have been-- but more importantly in morality. They think that "our side" is always right or justified as when we bomb thousands of innocent people in Iraq. That can't be called terrorism because "our" cause is just according to them.

Any praise of another country such as Canada and their health care system for example is grounds for a big hysterical bolded copy and paste because it's the quickest way to counter such praise with many words on a page.

When no other answer is available, you become the target because god forbid, you live in another country! But when "they" want to discuss another country, that consideration doesn't apply to them.

::What is her concern about Canada?::

Haven't you noticed yet that Linda does moral judgements via comparison. If you bring up the US, she compares to Canada. If we bring up Bush, she compares to Clinton.

Although I know it is not her motive the end result iis the appearance that these topics being defended cannot stand alone of their own accord but only find positive light in comparision to a percieved greater problem.

Linda, no, you don't have to defend your position but I suspect you knew the response you'd get when you placed this post.
If you thought we'd all do the happy dance because someone SAID there's more jobs...well,sorry to disappoint but I still am working...with a 9% pay cut. My significant other, an engineer, is going on year 2 of unemployment with no leads in sight. A friend has sold most of what he owns so he can go to Alaska to work in a cannery, the only sure job he knows about. Another friend is getting "charity" work from his relatives, he's a hard worker who's been laid off several times in the last two years.
In other words, we'll believe the jobs (that pay a living wage)when we see them.
Oh, by the way, we were all doing just fine 3 1/2 years ago.
I guess worry over my friends and loved ones keeps me from appreciating your happiness, I'm sorry.
Peace

Crowfarm - What I understand is that the left can't appreciate ANY good news....they're always very negative imo. Whether it's about jobs, the economy, the war.....anything that is proven to be improving.

THAT'S what I understand.

And on the because someone SAID there's more jobs.....

...that 'someone' would be the US Department of Labor who has alway kept stats on the job market.

Glad you guys tuned in...Al's pretty good but his guests are better! And I've learned a lot from them. But Big Ed is a pistol! He sounds like and delivers like Rush, but he uses facts!!!!! Not just bumper sticker slogans! AND does not preach hate. His speech against the Iraq prison torture was magnificent!
Thanks!

Linda, I'm sorry but if you read my post things are not improving and people who are out of work and desperate cannot pay the bills with what someone SAYS.
You tend to be negative when you face loosing your home and can't buy groceries or gas.
I'm sure people with high incomes are doing just fine especially with the tax cut Bush gave them but not us. My tax cut came to a dollar a week, it'll help to pay my health insurance which will double.
It wasn't this way 3 1/2 years ago.
Peace

Gotta wonder how many of those "new" jobs happen to be at Walmart, McDonalds, etc. You know the ones I'm talking about - they pay "you can't live on it" minimum wage. Yes, there's an improvement - to Linda. Just ask someone who used to make a liveable wage, lost their job and now makes an un-liveable wage. I guess any job is better than no job, right Linda? Who cares if you don't make enough money to put food on the table. The US Dept of Labor (like I trust any dept. with a link to Bush) says things are great, so I guess that makes it so. At least to Linda. I'm sure the other posters here have some bridges they'd like to sell you. I'll start by offering the Brooklyn Bridge. You can get it real cheap. Honest you can. Anyone else up to offering Linda a bridge?

I can't even respond to your posts anymore because they smack of ignorance.

Cheryl, He made this comment last year. I think that we should just consider the source and let this guy self destruct all by himself.

Linda_K, these are your posted stats.

The struggling manufacturing sector also is reawakening, adding 32,000 new jobs last month.

Last month, construction employment rose by 32,000 in May, with 91,000 new jobs added since January. In the services sector, professional and business services added 64,000 jobs, fueled by hiring increases in temporary employment firms. Hiring at such firms has grown by 14 percent since April 2003.

Hotels and restaurants added 33,000 jobs over the month, and financial services boosted payrolls by 15,000.

You call these jobs? I looked real close at the STATS YOU POSTED and I call it SCAB LABOR.

DID YOU FACTOR IN THESE STATS?

MILLIONS OF PEOPLE NO LONGER COUNTED AS UNEMPLOYED BECAUSE THEIR BENEFITS HAVE RUN OUT UNDER BUSH.

THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WORKERS WAGES DOWN $1,400 A YEAR UNDER BUSH.

COMPANY CEO WAGES UP BY 25% UNDER BUSH.

Right! Like you are so positive about Democrats, Linda. People aren't stupid about politics anymore. It takes more than fancy packaging to hide the truth from people. OK, the employment rate is going up. That's great news! The bad news is there are still 2 million more unemployed than when Clinton left office, and like Helen says, another 8 million unemployed added to that. And of those 1 million that have found employment, they're making less than they did 4 years ago. Now how is that negative?

Like bigpeepa has pointed out, the republicans are leading us into a two class world system-- the rich and the poor. The republicans give lip service to the hand ringing religious right to get thier votes, and they turn the other cheek as our standard of living and middle class disappear.

helen - LOL - I don't need anyone to 'defend' me. Everyone is free to express their own views here. Because someone agrees that others should grow up, quit expecting to get something without working for it....just means there's a shared position there - agreement....not that one is defending another.

How silly.
---------------

You're right KD....I am negative about the lefts way of always expecting/demanding to be taken care of by the government - be given a handout - rather than taking care of themselves.

More government entitlement = more socialism in the US. The government doesn't owe anybody anything. Everybody needs to take care of themselves....not sit back and whine about everything the government isn't giving them - doing for them.

I vowed to stay out of this but "the government doesn't owe anybody anything"??????????????????
THEN WHY do they take 25% of MY PAYCHECK??????????????
What's that for ...RENT?
And the government DOES owe us !!!
It owes us responsibility in the way it runs this country? If they don't owe us anything why are they there? WHY don't they go home ? What are they doing besides collecting a salary?
And WHO ever said they wanted something for nothing????
I've been in the work force for 36 YEARS and never got anything for free from this government. I've worked my butt off and if I want to whine about then getting a 9% pay cut when CEO'S salarys have gone up 60% since the 70's I WILL!
I could go on and on about what this government owes us...like earning the respect of other countries so we can live peacefully without our young people dying because our president is a swaggering puppet of the oil companies and HALIBURTON...but I won't.
I can no longer see a point to this thread.
Peace and goodbye

Reamond,

I agree with you on the government's responsibility. Also, Linda says the government doesn't owe anybody anything. If she ever sent her kids to a public school or college, then she would in fact been participating in a form of socialism. A process where the government collects money from the citizens of the community and operates a school system. The same for county operated hospitals. The library too. These things are paid for by all, and used by all.

If the traffic light by Linda's house went out, I bet she would be the first to bi*tch to the local officials.

True Americans do not exclude anybody. They recognize that everyone should have the same rights. Bigotry, intolerance and hatred are cancers of the mind.
