begging alls pardon, its not a US Marine.

Maybe its part wishful thinking? I am tired of all the beheading and violence.,..kinda wish they'd blow it all up and get it over with! :-0

I felt that way, myself, a time or too. We're working so hard not to take innocent lives...but sometimes I feel that makes our enemies think they're gaining control.

I believe that the commanders over there know what they need to do, at any given time. But do get concerned that politics might prevent them from just 'taking care of business' so they can come home.

Nero - you may have been right the first time. They are claiming there is a Marine as well as the Pakistani working for a US contractor. The marine was shown on camera along with identification papers but formal announcement is being withheld until his family has been notified.

Fenix, thought I heard that, as I passed the tv; but then couldnt find anything on it on the internet?

I know my attitude sounds destructive, and fully realize its really just what I 'feel' sometimes - not anything I could see actually happening....but this is going to be a long long war.....

Now it's being reported on CNN that an American hostage is being held by terrorists.

Nero , you are right. However we could shorten the length greatly by beginning a retreat, turning over power to the Iraqis this week and picking up the pace of replacing our own security forces with Iraqi forces. The insurgents are not there to take over the country - the are there to rid the country of the Americans. The longer we stay, the more pproblems there will be. Right now, the June 30th change of power gives us the open door to start making a graceful retreat from the nation with a friendly leader in place. The longer we stay, we more poeple will join the fight against us and this will quickly become another Vietnam.

The US cannot win the war. We have already accomplished what we said we were going to accomplish, got rid of Saddam, opened the doors for democracy and put a western friendly leader into place. What is the goal we now hope to accomplish? We are not fighting against Iraq. We are not even fighting against Iragis. Right now we are simply using Iraq as a battleground against imported enemies.

If we leave the country the insurgents cannot justify their contued attacks upon the nation and it's people. If they do they lose their support base since now they are just killing of fellow muslims. They are no longer freedom fighters, they are just blood thirsty madmen.

Well put, fenix!!!

But, you only listed the overt reasons for being in Iraq. Now, our youngsters must stay and die protecting all the blood sucking American companies like Haliburton.

Aw Helen, its good to laugh and smile at whatever you find amuzeing. It's good for the soul. But wait, is that God you dont believe in or can you have a soul and not a belief in God? Sorry, but I dont think thats clear to me about your belief system. ??

I applaude your efforts, though. Keep typing "have a nice day/////'' I'm sure eventually you'll come to mean it and might even feel a tad bit relaxed towards somebody you despise only because they have totally different ideas than you.

on topic: I am thinking I sure hope this marine has the mental and physical precision skills to protect himself in this! - They better get him the hell outta there, if even for the Iraquies sake!

Like that place isnt tattered enough....they show this guy getting beheaded - and nobody will be responsible for what will happen next. If the insurgents were smart, they'd find a backdoor outta this one.

Nero - I think that the actions that you are predicting are just the ones they want. AQ has played Americans like a fiddle for the past couple years. If we go on the bombing raids and such that many of the gung-ho will call on us to do the ONLY thing we will accomplish is recruiting more people for the enemy. Bomb a town, kill family members, leave people homeless in a shell of their former existence and you are playing into AQ's game as they come along and say "See, we told you, they care nothing of your people. Come join us and rid your nation of them" We cannot win.

We should have simply assassinated Saddam quietly a couple years ago.

Fenix, that's absolutely right! There is absolutely no advantage in extending our occupation of Iraq. But still, we have no exit plan.

Neroter, I wish that you would stop addressing me. I have no idea what you are talking about in the following quote from this thread.

Neroter went off topic to relay this puzzling information to me...after referring to my "sh!t list" on another thread. What is my sh!t list??? Why bring up my religious beliefs here in a thread about a Marine hostage?
Neroter said, "Aw Helen, its good to laugh and smile at whatever you find amuzeing. It's good for the soul. But wait, is that God you dont believe in or can you have a soul and not a belief in God? But still, we have no exit plan. Well...kerry has a plan....he wants to send more troops in.
-----------------

OT - I don't believe we're going to do anything different [like bombing] because this is a Marine [God bless him and his family] than we did with the other people they captured and even those who were beheaded.

Yes, Kerry wants to send more troops in because the military in Iraq has been asking and asking our administration for more troops...These people are THERE, they know what they need. Our administration just keeps recycling troops it promised to send home...it'll recycle until they're all dead.

Bremer requests more troops as violence, tension in Iraq escalate

US commander will not take blame for unrest
America's top commander in Iraq has warned Washington that he will not be "the fall guy" if violence in the country worsens, it emerged yesterday, as word leaked out that US generals are "outraged" by their lack of soldiers.

America's generals consider current troop strengths of 130,000 in Iraq inadequate

They've been asking for more. Frankly, to have Rumsfeld announce in May that more troops will be sent "if they ask for them" is incredible--they'd been asking for them!!
