posted on July 5, 2004 06:42:18 PM newDado: the habit of posting URLs started because whenever anybody posted a thought, statement, whatever, several folks here would jump up screaming "oh, yeah? Where's your proof?!?" And demand URLs supporting the info the person had posted.
Then, that wasn't enough. People would post the URLs of sites supporting their viewpoint, statement, whatever, and soon folks started jumping up and loudly complain that only a URL had been posted, thus forcing them to actually click on it & go elsewhere to read the info.
So, folks began posting relevant passages from sites of the URLs they provided. But after a while, that wasn't enough. Such posters were accused of taking things out of context. Jibes went back and forth.
So it finally came about that entire articles were posted.
There you have it in a nutshell.
And now it comes full circle--we have you demanding that no one post article, just their own thoughts. Maybe that will happen, too.
But soon folks will be demanding proof...
