KERRY HITS THE WRONG OHIO TOWN
[Kathryn Jean Lopez ]
An e-mail from Steubenville, Ohio, hometown of the Catholic University of Steubenville:

John Kerry came to Steubenville yesterday and quickly realized he was in the wrong city. Steubenville is a city where there are 6 Democrats for every 1 Republican, and the Steelworkers unions are alive and active. You would think this was solid John Kerry territory. The mob used to control Steubenville and now the unions think they do. Well, they are wrong.

The Kerry campaign first scheduled a visit to Steubenville two weeks ago but "scheduling conflicts" came up at the last minute. Oh, and did I mention that Kerry wanted to use a local gun range as a campaign stop, but the owner turned him down? And that the Fire Department Union President told the Kerry campaign that not only would he not organize the union to support Kerry at the rally, but that he was supporting President Bush! The Kerry campaign took for granted that this area was sown up. Mistake number one. So they rescheduled the campaign trip when Franciscan University was back in session. Mistake number two.

Before Kerry arrived there was a huge pro-life march led by Franciscan University students, 500 strong. "You can't be Catholic and pro-abortion", read some of their signs. Students and members of local Catholic parishes were full of energy and FoxNews reported that this was the largest protest against Kerry outside of the Democratic Convention. Just picture 500 pro-lifers marching from their college campus to meet Kerry. Where else but in Steubenville, Ohio! Though the Franciscan University did not organize the event, it is well known for its orthodox Catholic education which encourages students to put their faith into action. These students simply cherish their Catholic faith and could not stand to let Kerry use their faith as a political prop. I am proud of my alma mater.

….The Kerry campaign not only made a mistake in their timing, but they also chose to hold the rally in a public park which should be open to all the public. Mistake number three. The police chief, sheriff, and mayor all agreed with me that protesters and their signs would be allowed inside the Kerry rally site. Freedom of speech is alive and well here in Ohio. The Kerry campaign flipped out!

So, now add another 500 local Bush supporters to the Kerry rally. They tried to turn up the music but they could not drown us out. According to the Herald Star (local press), "The crowd, estimated by officials as 3,500 strong, was almost split in half with people for and against the Massachusetts senator." John Kerry must know he has a problem when over 15% of his audience was booing him. We were respectful and did not heckle him - but upon arrival and when he sought our applause he got something he didn't expect. As the press arrived a feisty nine year old little girl began shouting, "We want Bush!", and we all chanted along. The campaign staff was beside themselves. This is history in the making! Even places like Steubenville are not supporting John Kerry. He is in serious trouble.

My friends, John Kerry will not be coming back to Steubenville. Kerry was visibly shaken when he received boos from the audience.....

Maybe that's how it happened, maybe not. This is from an online poll conducted by the Steubenville Herald-Star. The poll asks the question "Should organized labor back President Bush or John Kerry?"

What a surprise for kerry, huh? Maybe this is why it's been reported that the Mrs. had to stop at a hospital on her way home because of an "upset stomach".

MSNBC reported....

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5916073/site/newsweek/

.....that kerry has been yelling at Cahill and others on his staff for the last three days.....blaming them that his numbers are going down.

Now kerry's calling in some guy whom he has used in the past when he has had to deal with 'problems' about his war record.

Now maybe some will at least believe that the recent polls aren't that far off.

Ya, linda, I bet you ARE SO happy Teresa Kerry had to "spot" at the hospital. Bet you'll cheer like crazy if it's something serious. They'll be smilies all over the place.

I haven't forgotten she's the kind of woman that makes you gag.

As for whether or not Kerry has yelled at his staff, bush does it, and has been doing from the start....been reported he's getting even crabbier and more "dictator-like", but he's always been "short" with HIS staff.

Gosh, I thought you didn't believe in polls.

There is nothing official about that poll as it is only in the news paper and one person can be doing all the voting.

Taken from the Stubenville Herald dated today. I did a yahoo search for Stubenville poll and this came up.

Labor ready for political role

The state of labor in the Upper Ohio Valley is considerably more positive this year than it was a year ago, when a cloud of uncertainty hovered over the local steel industry.

And, looking back two years, the steel industry here was on the ropes and just waiting for a knockout punch from foreign imports.
"Two-and-a-half-years ago, the experts predicted we would not make it and we could not make it," said Bernie Ravasio, president of United Steelworkers of America Local 1190 in Steubenville, "We pro-ved them wrong - with the help of the community. It was a community effort that saved Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp."

"As the state of the valley goes, labor has a very positive outlook," said Mark Glyptis, president of the Independent Steelworkers Union at ISG-Weirton.

"We have a lot of positives and we have to take advantage of our opportunities. Without labor, it wouldn't have happened," Glyptis said.

However, Glyptis said the competition has changed.

"The fact is, the global philosophy won't change. To compete on a global basis, union officials have to understand the finances of how a company operates and extract the highest level of benefits for the membership.

"Unions are more conversant in the finances of a company. Union leaders have to understand what makes a company viable to represent their constituents," Glyptis said, adding workers want to know the finances and they want to understand what they have to do to be competitive.

"Labor Day is a tribute to those workers who have sacrificed to make the company survive," Glyptis said

The two union leaders say labor will play a critical role this campaign season.

"I think labor will play a large part in this election in Ohio," Ravasio said.

Glyptis agreed, noting organized labor is getting stronger. Ten or 20 years ago, organized labor saw declining membership. That's changing, he pointed out.

"Labor is getting strong and will continue to get stronger," Glyptis said.

Many challenges face the working men and women of the United States, they pointed out. In Ohio alone, more than 270,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost and nationwide, about 3 million jobs have been lost in the past year.

Ravasio said the lost high-paying manufacturing jobs have been replaced by lower paying jobs.

"All working people, not just union members, have to look at the whole picture on the election and decide who is the best candidate to lead the country," Ravasio said.

"Jobs and the economy are the major issue, but certainly not the only issues," he said.

"For Wheeling-Pitt and for our workers and our community, things are looking good. The willingness of our workers to sacrifice is now paying off and the help we got from Govs. (Bob) Taft of Ohio and (Bob) Wise of W.Va. has helped tremendously.

"For the people at Wheeling-Pitt, right now, thank God, things are looking good," Ravasio said.

He noted the company posted a profit for the second quarter of this year and indications the third quarter will be profitable.

The $114 million electric arc furnace at Wheeling-Pitt's Mingo Junction complex is on schedule and will be started in the fourth quarter.

"We are the only integrated steelmaker in the country building a major facility. This is a far cry from where we were a year ago," Ravasio said.

"I see a strong relationship with the company. The company is meeting with us and sharing information and we are having good meetings with our strategy groups. High labor grades went into effect in May. The company didn't balk on that and we have a strong contract in place.

"We have to stay focused, keep progressing and work toward the future," Ravasio said.

Glyptis said unions today are realizing they have to get beyond competing against themselves.

"We are competing against the world. It's a global economy and the most we could ask for is to be able to compete fairly. The government needs to enforce trade laws," Glyptis said.

Yes, they can't attack his platform so they attack his faith and him personally.
Cheap shot but what do you expect from the neonazicons.

It's a fact:

People are not screened or asked to sign loyalty pledges or asked to take stickers out of their wallets or asked to take off their shirts at a Kerry rally.
Period. It hasn't been done.

The Bush campaign travels with a fleet of SS and they make people attending rallies SIGN a loyalty pledge, check their wallets for Kerry stickers, and arrest people for wearing Kerry shirts.

No, I didn't do a google search ...I have talked to and read about people who have been to BOTH. YOU have not.

Better not sell it, you could make a killing off of the taxes you'd collect. Espically if you split it with someone.

Genesis 1:1

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I do not accept His claim to be God." That is one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic....or else he would be the devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

Speaking of platforms and having a bridge in "Slick Lizard Texas" up for sale....for those of you who bought these promises..I have some nice swamp land here in Louisiana, I'd like to unload... LOL
..........................................

George Bush promised he’d put your Social Security money in a lockbox. Instead, he gave it away in a huge tax cut to his wealthy friends. I ask: George, where’s that lockbox?

George Bush promised he’d increase job training for our unemployed friends and family. Instead, he cut $1 billion from these programs. George, where’s that job training?

In February of this year – just seven months ago – George Bush promised that he’d create four million jobs by the end of the year. It’s only September, and he’s already two million jobs behind on that promise. George, where are those jobs?

George Bush promised that he’d fix the health-care system, but just last week we found out that another 1.5 million Americans lost their health insurance on his watch. And just last week the government announced the largest cost increase in Medicare’s history. George, where’s that health-care?

George Bush promised that he’d “leave no child behind,” but just last week we found out that another three million children fell into poverty on his watch. George, what about those children?

George Bush promised that the war in Iraq would lower the cost of gasoline. George, where’s that inexpensive gasoline?

George Bush promised that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. George, where are those weapons?George Bush promised that he’d smoke bin Laden out of his hole. George, where’s Osama bin Laden?

In four years George Bush has made a lot of promises, but he hasn’t kept any of them. Now he’s making more promises. Can you survive four more years of failure and broken promises?

Dr. D - The problem as I see it is that kerry supporters can't praise kerry's platform...because they might look like fools a couple weeks later when he again changes his position. This man has so backbone.

Then the kerry supporters keep making all these untrue claims about this President's accomplishments. Saying he hasn't done anything.
I believe it's because they listen to clips or read articles from all the left leaning sources and don't have their facts straight.

On the link I will provide it proves two of your above claims totally incorrect.

Here's just one...the other on on NCLB and funding for the less fortunate is also addressed.

[factcheck.org]

[kerry's ad]

The ad also falsely claims that Bush "slashes job training by 24%." That's a reference to a $318 million reduction being proposed in federal funding for vocational training grants, and it would amount to a 24% cut -- in that particular program. But that's only a part of all federal job-training money. The administration is proposing to move $250 million of those funds out of what it calls outdated high-school shop courses ill-matched to the modern job market -- and into a new "Community College Initiative" to upgrade technical and career training at 2-year colleges. That's a big, controversial change in where job training takes place, but nothing close to a 24% cut in job training overall.

Democratic Ad Confuses Fact and Fiction

On two other issues....

As a Doc, Dr.D, I'd assume you would be a very smart person to have earned that degree.

But when you make statements like the tax increases are given at the detrement of our SS program....that is not the reality of the situation. And I'd think you'd know that.

SS is not heald in a separate fund...it's accounted for in the 'general' fund. So to say the tax cuts hurt the SS program in anyway....is to overlook that it didn't specifically hurt any existing program. They didn't have the surplus before...and they don't now. And one could mention any government program and claim it hurt that program. But to use SS makes some more resentful that he's caused more damage to that program...over others. When in fact...it was a surplus and no one had decided how it was going to be used.

This President ran on a platform of tax cuts when we were facing a surplus. He said that money shouldn't be used to fund MORE programs...[b]but rather be returned to those who OVERPAID...and whose money had created that surplus.

Then 9-11....the economy changed. The recession worsened....but he kept his campaign promise.

This President promised to rebuild and strengten our military....he has done so. He has given vets more benefits, higher paycheck in three years than clinton did in eight years.

There are many programs this President has provided this Nation with...another one being the largest change in Medicare benefits in 40 years.

It seems that you find it quite impossible to understand that some Democrats believe in their candidate as strongly as you believe in yours.

Articles you won't usually read in the left leaning media.

I could go on and on with all the new programs this President has funding...started. But would it matter to the kerry supporters? No...because according to them their can never be too much spent on each and every program they want paid for.

All the while constantly complaining about how terribly high the deficit currently is.

Can't have it both ways....and kerry's promises have been reported to be close to $2 trillion dollars more in ADDITIONAL spending.

Besides this aware this President has provided more funding for health care for those that can't afford it.

---------
President Bush Receives National Award for Community Health Care

Top Award Honors Leaders Who Championed Health Care for Poor, Uninsured

Washington, D.C.__ The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) today presented President George W. Bush with the 2004 ?Distinguished Community Health Champion? award for his leadership on issues that impact the 15 million people who rely on Community, Migrant, Public Housing and Homeless Health Centers for their health care.

The top award is given only to national leaders who have done outstanding work on behalf of low-income, uninsured and medically underserved Americans, and who have spearheaded efforts on Capitol Hill to improve health care access for all.

President Bush is the first and only President of the United States to have won the NACHC Champion Award for three straight years.

President Bush is a three-time winner of this award because he has demonstrated outstanding leadership on behalf of health centers and has a proven commitment to a strong health care safety net,? said Tom Van Coverden, President and CEO of NACHC.

First and foremost, the President?s FY 2005 budget request to Congress increases funding for the federal Health Center program by $219 million the largest increase in the program?s history.

If Congress grants his request, almost two million more people in America will have access to health care. This additional funding will save lives, build healthier communities, and prevent the excessive and costly use of hospital emergency rooms that are too often the last refuge for people who can?t afford to see a doctor.?

President Bush has been a consistent advocate for health centers since taking office. He has repeatedly called on Congress to increase funding for the program each year so that he can achieve his stated goal of doubling the number of people served by health centers. He has often cited the work of health centers in numerous speeches and radio addresses.

As recently as last month the President said, ?We've opened or expanded 600 community health centers since 2001? It's a good way to make sure that health care is available for those who don't have insurance yet. And so I call upon Congress to look at that part of my budget and continue working with the Administration to expand these vital centers ? around America.?

Community, Migrant, Public Housing and Homeless Health Centers serve as the family doctor to 15 million low-income children and adults in 3,500 communities across the country. Health centers have a solid record of keeping communities healthy and disease free. Studies show in communities where there is a health center, there are shorter lines at hospital emergency rooms, lower infant mortality rates, and improved health outcomes for people with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
