replay,

BTW, I own a bible. I don't practice religion, I like to study it. The study of different religions and how and why they were formed is very interesting. To devote myself to a "fixed idea" of thinking is not for me. Especially when there are so many pitfalls in EVERY religion. Why anyone would want to devote themselves to flawed and shallow thinking is beyond my understanding.

I am a free thinker.

You can tell you've *arrived* Yeager when you have to come here to defend statements that you never made and thoughts that you never considered.

Speaking of religion, this is an interesting idea about why so many people voted for Bush.

Bush and Prayer

We've heard recently from the nasty reactionaries who go to Columbia Law School, now let's hear from the more cosmopolitan students at that distinguished institution; this from Erik Encarnacion, a philosophy major from Princeton now studying at CLS; he writes:

I've been thinking more about this whole liberal hand-wringing about Bush.

On every substantive issue Bush has been a resounding failure. Polls indicate as much: people are dissatisfied with his performance on every level. Liberals (like me) thus conclude that it must be Bush's position on substantive cultural conservative issues, like gays, guns, and god. Surely this has some truth to it.

But I think to many fundamentalist Christians George W. Bush represents something deeper than these discrete issues: he is the first ostensibly fundamentalist Christian to be president, and to reject him would be to reject fundamentalist decision-making methodology: prayer is better than thought. The idea is that for any given problem, praying will provide superior answers to actual thought. This theme is well represented in Bush's decision to go to Iraq. I remember his talking about how he prayed really hard about the decision to invade. I also remembered not being comforted at all by this fact. But for fundamentalist, culturally conservative Christians, the fact that Bush prays before making a decision is sufficient to legitimize the outcome. To reject Bush's 1st term would entail acknowledging that prayer is not a good decision-making method, which, being brainwashed, they are not willing to acknowledge.

Helen I still would like you to point out where you saw "so much hate" displayed by that Christian family featured on CNN.

Talk about flunking out of a debate......

But you never were debating it were you? You just made this proclamation. I bet you didnt even see the progam.

Maggie, one of my favorite proverbs is:
It rains on the just and the unjust alike.

Now if you ask me what that means or if that is fair...the only thing I can tell you is, to me it is, We are All responsible for allowing sin to get the better of us in this world, and no one actually goes through life unscathed or unblemished. There's a similar saying that goes, "one day its me, the next day its you."

Neroter, you are accusing me of lying about watching the program?

No, neroter...I wasn't "debating" it and I don't plan to "debate" it. . If you or anyone else wants to review the CNN program, the transcript is located on the link below.

Bush won on Moral Values, That is a little different than Christian Values. Of course Christians have moral values but others do also and that is who elected Bush. The voters and the DNC didn't like Kerry's flip flopping so get over it. Kerry was only trying to promote his agenda and the voters saw around that. What the Kerry voters did not realize is that there were voters that thought Bush was the better of the two. Get over it....Move on....

Can we call you a Bible Thumber Yeager?????

Thanks Helen, I am glad that I finally get the recognition that I have worked for and deserve!

Hell No! Don't bother calling me a bible thumper just because I admitted that I own one. It's in like new, mint, perfect, unused condition with no page wear or spinal wear. It's in the bottom of the box with all of the other old books that are worthless.

Bush won because he convinced the war in Iraq was going well and everything in this country is otherwise perfect. The only important issue that needed fixing is that a few boys like to kiss each other. That was a major concern to the bible thumping crowd.

"Okay, ya got me on this one..whats a bible thumper??"

A bible thumper is a person who constantly preaches the need and goodness of his religion. Now, if you have to ask if that's me, then you must of just signed up on Vendio yesterday.

Oh Helen,

Thanks for the link to the CNN transcript on the fight over faith show. In another thread, linda k accused me of slanting my quotes from this show when I posted the whacked up bible thumping family. You know, the one who had the 3 year old that was "saved".

I told her that I didn't alter any C & P from that transcript, and asked her to show everyone where she says I did so. She failed to do this in the fact I DID NOT. Just another example of her meaningless and accusatory posts.

People, like the communists and Republicans, who think everyone should think, believe, feel, worship, and have sex in exactly the same way.

How many bedrooms have you been in Classic....

Well 35 million people can't be wrong and I bet they aren't all republicans...and I know they don't all think alike. And what do you consider believe.

It is John Kerry they didn't believe or believe in because how can you believe in a person that can't even believe in himself. He says one thing and does another. Day after day we heard that. He was the one that voted against armour for the soldiers, but he voted for the war.

I for one and I am sure there are others that do not want to be compared to communists. You are way off and I resent that comment.

Since the big bang.. there have always been those who cannot think outside of the box..(no pun intended here) they have always served as bumps in the road for progressive, free thinkers....not road blocks but bumps in the road...Thank goodness that there are more progressive thinkers and dreamers than those who fear change or the unknown..or we would still be living in caves, and offering human sacrifices to the Gods...

It's a play on words or rather in this case letters, like whenever the Profe talks about his wife he refers to her as SWMBO i.e. she who must be obeyed.
