The question...Where do you stand?
That would depend entirely on which side of the border I found myself on.
I can see both sides of the coin.
As a middle class American, I am comfortable with the status quo....
If I were a starving Mexican who couldn't find work or support my children in my own country, I would do everything in my power to do so, including finding a way to the so called "Promised Land".. legally or illegally....

You may have a point there... Mark and I both liked the movie.
But overlooking "illegals" is not the answer. Make it a little easier to become legal, less red tape. But they should still should have to pay taxes, as they are living in this country, using the roads and many other things paid for by OUR tax dollars.

With recent events taken into consideration, it may just be only "slightly" exagerrated. It could have been worse....ALOT worse. That's the thing about catastrophic events and there's nothing you can do about them but pick up the pieces.

Sorry twig...I just disagree. The reviews of the movie were evenly mixed - those who liked it...those who didn't and felt it was too far-fetched. It's a movie about something that's never happened...never would happen as opposed to the recent and repeated catastrophe that the tidal waves have brought in the past.

What bothers me about the illegal aliens is that they come to this country, have children and then the children are American Citizens. Now the US is responsible for these Children. Of course it is not the Child's fault but I think they aren't as dumb as we think, I am sure they do this on purpose.
Americans are spending money in every country. How much do you think the Canadian Pharmacies receive from the prescription drugs that the Americans buy from them. I am sure it is plenty.
Retired Americans are moving to countries where they don't have to pay american taxes. Isn't that the same?

This President has not done enough to protect our borders and he wants illegal immigrants working in America.
This is taken from the article below:
Our inability to control who comes into the country is our biggest security threat, and we must empower every branch of law enforcement to apprehend the lawbreakers.
While we may be more protected against illegal or dangerous people entering the US via airplanes than we were in 2000, there are hundreds of miles of coast lines and border crossings were illegals can enter that still remain unprotected. In addition I do not believe this country does enough to follow through on people who have entered the United States on work or student Visa only. How many of these people remain in the United States long after their visas have expired?
Furthermore many of the agents responsible for protecting our borders have seen a rise in their responsibilities since 9/11, but have not been given adequate training.
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

While I believe we have made headway in the area of securing our borders, I feel more should be done. Even keeping our borders 50% covered against entry is impossible. There are just too many miles! Can imagine the taxpayer response if Bush decided to erect a "Great Wall"?

I was trying to find the latest article on the border crossings but just can't seem to find it. What it said was that there are over 50 border crossings into the USA from Canada. 50 of the most important ones have the finger print machine where they insert, I think the thumb, and the function is hooked to a data base to compare with known terriroists and criminals. This is the travelor coming from Canada into the USA. Everyone is tested. Maybe it would be wise to close the smaller ones for better protection.
As for Mexico there is so much open space for them to get in illegally they would almost have to build the great wall.
