Not quite sure on that one Maggie - please note where her attorney is from.

Ya, classic , hard to believe she could be loved for herself....hard to believe a man would look at the real person and not just the cover because all men are just so damn good-looking and perfect that they only deserve super models and centerfolds.

I guess "love" is a term you're not familiar with or have an interest in.
Too bad for you (and sad for your wife)....it beats "looks" all to hell.

Crowfarm, I think you're right about them trying to get rid of her. With 20+ years seniority, I think they knew beforehand there was no way she would go for make-up and stockings or they wouldn't have pushed the issue. I bet that's it.

So Krafty... you really believe that a corporation with thousands of employees across the country decided to implement an appearance code in order to get rid of one bartender in Reno?

I don't think so... they liked her and offered her another position.. I don't know if it would have offered the same pay or not.. but it would have been a position where she didn't have to wear make-up..

Maggie - the sad part is that with 20 years history with one company she probably could have gotten a job bartending with anyone without problems. Of course now that she has filed a sex discrimination suit against a former employer she's going to have a hard time getting a job anywhere other than Joes Shot and a Draft House.

Yes, she has certainly put herself out there.

But, you know Fenix, I can't help but admire her and all of those other women in the past who have bravely fought for women's rights, putting themselves at risk. We have been second and sometimes third class citizens for to long.. don't you think..

On the other hand, she may be doing this as a purely selfish act to sue for a large reward... but even so, she has brought to light (in my opinion) how women are still used as sex objects...I don't know.. maybe it is something you only really see clearly as you get on in years.. rambling on..Maggie

No, but I think they pushed the issue with her perhaps because of her seniority. If she was good looking and didn't wear make-up or a dress, I doubt this would have been an issue with this company. Good, loyal employees are hard to find. I think they pushed this with her for a reason. I have a feeling she might be gay and that's what this is about. (Just a thought.)

::But, you know Fenix, I can't help but admire her and all of those other women in the past who have bravely fought for women's rights, putting themselves at risk.::

She did not put herself at risk. She voluntarily went to work in an atmosphere where appearance is EVERYTHING! Casinos are all about the suspension of disbelief. It's lights and magic and money and appearances. You go to casinos, you know that. She decided that she wanted benefit from the game without actually having to play it. That's not putting yourself at risk. That's being a spoiled child.

::We have been second and sometimes third class citizens for to long.. don't you think.. ::

You know Mag - I have heard that for years and I just don't buy it. You are only treated as badly as you allow yourself to be. I never saw being female as a bad thing and so I don't allow it to be. If anything I use it to my advantage. It's a wonderful measuring stick. Sure I have had people that did not want to work for/with a woman. Not a problem. They have demonstrated themselves to be too unable to operate outside the box to have any value to me anyway. I didn't begrudge them. I thanked them for leting me know early in the game rather than at crunch time. You want to treat me like an idiot and assume I know nothing about business? Beautiful! I love that. They are so busy patronizing me that they don't realize till long after negotiations are done who came out on top of the deal.... and that it was not them.

I think the biggest injustice to women in America in this case was done by the plaintiff, not the defendant. If you want to be treated as an equal, you have to stop acting like a victim.

You have to know that if there was even the slightest posiblility of truth in that one that her LAMBDA lawyer would have introduced it in the complaint.

Fenix, I can see things from your point of view..

I believe we are seeing things from different angles......I am assuming that I am probably around your mother's age.
We were the first generation of women to actually work outside of the home. And it was not easy breaking into a "Man's" world.
Even today, women are not paid equally.. but we could go on for hours on the subject.

I think in the case of Jespersen, it was not fair for them to impose this new make-up rule after she had been working there on the same job for 21 years...for you and me it would be no big deal.. but it is the principle of the thing... the whole phony baloney about gender labeling etc...

On the other hand.. I played the game when I was younger and I expect it will continue until we all become non-gender, asexual, humanatoids....

Mag - you are probably right on the age/history aspect. My mother is in her late 50's. I probably took much of my attitude from her. Despite all that she encountered she started out as a tech and ended up as a hospital department head. I heard her complain about arrogant doctors that threat all non drs with contempt but never heard her complain about treatment based on her sex so the reality of that posibility never took root in me. When I encountered it I just viewed the person as an fool unworthy of my time.

I've been in many "male dominated" enviroments over the years and had people comment on the level of acceptance I recieved there. I just tell them that I never considered myself unworthy of it and so neither did anyone else. Perception really is everything.

I am in my early 50's.. LOL.... at this stage of life, early or late becomes as important a definition as it was when you were 6 and a half not 6... but in reverse.. LOL

I am sure your Mother is as proud of you as I am of my daughters! Maggie

While I am gambling I don't know if the bartender or waiter/waitress is blue, fat, in heels or made up to look like like a clown. Just serve me my drink and let me gamble. As long as he/she is clean I don't care.

Okay.. time to get me and the dogs into the bath tub with the futon mattress over our heads... if you see me fly by, give me a wave! Maggie

That's what I say....drunks and gamblers just ain't that fussy! No casino is going to go out of business if the bartenders don't all look like Barbie dolls.
I couldn't remember what the last waitress at Appleby's looked like for Pete's sake but I bought and ate my lunch with no problem. The service and food are good and I go there frequently.
That's why it's probably her age, they want to get rid of her before she gets a pension.

Maggie, I'll trade you one tornado for 20 degrees BELOW ZERO and 40 mile an hour winds for a grand wind chill of about 60 below. This is also deadly....gonna come home early from work tonight otherwise I'm driving home at 1:00am in the country with no other cars or houses in sight.
So I hope your bathtub lands in a warmer place

Crow..how do you keep your car engine from freezing up? God, that is cold..

I am flying up to Cleveland for the weekend, to attend a party...and I don't even own a winter coat, or boots etc.. but I'm being picked up at the airport.. and don't plan to be outdoors other than getting in and out of the cars.. but I bet I will still freeze my jiggadees off...
Be careful driving and I hope you keep a cell phone with you at all times in case of an emergency.. Maggie

Maggie, don't know what's happening in Ohio but there's an old saying in Minnesota, "Bring Warm Clothes".

Even if you don't plan to be outside, a car that won't start, a flat tire, or an accident may put you outside....check the weather there and bring your long underwear !
I'm going to wear a snomobile suit with a long down coat over it....quite chic!

Minnesota? Is that where you are Crowfarm? Isn't that where they filmed Fargo? (One of my favorite movies!) My dad worked in St. Paul for many years.

Hope you all stay safe.

Very kind of you, Kraft.

I can't agree on "Fargo" though....the violence, the scene where they terrorize and laugh at that woman as she staggers around outside (and the AUDIENCE laughed) was just too much for me.
AND Minnesotans do NOT talk with that goofy accent....well, not all of us.....
