Exerpt from long article:

Michael Moore's gamble to hold his hit film "Fahrenheit 9/11" out of the documentary category - to boost its best-picture prospects - backfired. The movie was shut out across the board.

But let's not forget that the American People awarded Micheal Moore the People's Choice Award for Fahrenheit 9/11, named Best Picture of the year!

Monday, January 10th, 2005
"Fahrenheit 9/11" Named Best Picture of the Year by the American People

Dear Friends,

Last night, at the People's Choice Awards, "Fahrenheit 9/11" was named the Best Movie of the Year. It was a stunning moment for us. And, somewhere inside the Bush White House, someone there must have been stunned, too.

21 million people voted in the People's Choice Awards. They chose our film over "Shrek 2," "Spiderman 2" and "The Incredibles." If we can beat that many superheroes, surely we can survive the next four years.

I can think of no greater honor for us this year than the award bestowed upon us last night by the American people. On live television, with no threat of my remarks being censored or cut short, I thanked all of you and the rest of our fellow Americans and dedicated the prize to the parents of our servicemen and women in Iraq, the Lila Lipscombs of America who suffer so profoundly by the reckless actions of the Bush administration.

(If you'd like to see what I said -- this time, no riot! -- you can click here. I even dressed up!)

It was an historic moment as no documentary had ever won the People's Choice Award for Best Picture. And I thank each and every one of you who voted and made that happen.

Glad to hear it bear. Kind of surprised to read there are as many as 21 million fools in this country though.
-----

And here I thought these ultra-liberal rich Hollywood socialites would cancel the Academy Awards....you know...instead of spending all their OWN money on expensive gowns, hairdos, jewelry, limos all the expensive parties and donate it to the Tsunami survirors in Asia.

21 million is less than half of the number of fools (59 million+) that voted for Bush.

Linda - I was watching the View this morning and they were making a joke out of Michael Moore.
Evidently he tried to change his image so he hired someone to help him so he could get the nomination. Had his hair cut, put on a suit. Lost a little weight but that still didn't help him, he probably forgot to take a bath.

----------------

But while looking to see if there is an age restriction to voting for the people's choice awards, as there are in our Nation's election process, I came across this little tidbit...

....[i]The People's Choice Awards are different from most Hollywood award shows. Until 2004, the winners of the People's Choice Awards were selected through a Gallup poll of the general public.  The people were polled for their opinion about their favorite movie & TV stars, their favorite singers, and their favorite films and TV programs. Those polled were free to name any star that they like as their favorite; their choice is not limited to a handful of nominees.

However, in 2004, they dropped Gallup in favor of a partnership with Entertainment Weekly magazine, and this year Until this year, they always used a Gallup poll. This year, they dropped Gallup and switched to a partnership with Entertainment Weekly magazine. Now, nominees are determined by a "front row panel of over 6,000 entertainment enthusiasts" recruited by EW editors. The panel votes on the various categories, then people vote via the Internet for the winners.

So...voting on the internet doesn't sound to be like there'd be an age requirement. Still....it appears that 1/10 of our people are fools who voted for MM.

I don't think they are going to let the Passion go for any Academy awards, unless someone knows different here??

Michael Moore hates America? There you go again Linda. Why does someone have to hate their country when they disagree with government? Many people think he LOVES his country enough to expose some of the crap that goes on behind closed doors. Did you see Roger & Me or Bowling For Columbine? Was he anti-American when he produced those films?

1) 21 million people voted in the catagory in total LInda - not for the movie
2) 9 out of 10 gowns worn to the awards are donated by the designer in order to be seen and then afterwards donated to charity auctions. In the past, AMFAR has been the big recipient but just as following the Golden Globes you can expect to see many of the Academy gowns donated.
3) As for the Academy knowing quality... you mean money don't you? The only real awards that are based on talent and quality as opposed to politicing and financial commitments are the SAG awards

I have to wonder how enthusiastically you will all be demeaning Moore after the pharmacutical documentary is released.

Kraft,

Linda seems to forget that this country was founded on speaking out against the government.

If Linda was alive in 1770's this country would be under British rule today.

Speaking out against the government and its rulers makes us American and is what democracy is all about.

I suppose Linda would prefer us all being lapdogs and just listening to the dictator in charge.

I respect MM for his talents, his connections, and his ability to communicate. I also enjoy seeing a fat scruffy old fart get over on people. I understand what he says and agree with many of his concerns. I disagree with his approach and his conclusions. I am impressed that he made a fortune from tilting at windmills.

Meg should hire him to do PR for feebay. Before he turns his attention to feebay's efforts to avoid being regulated as a monopoly.

kraft, I watched Bowling for Columbine.

He didn't have to say he disliked the U.S.

If you watched and listened to him closely, he surely made it look like the U.S.A was the worst place on earth (I'm sure there are some people that agree with that)

He consistently praised Canada. And yeah, I did THINK while watching it, why don't you move there then. I never have said to anyone, or posted that stuff like 'America, Love it or Leave it. But his film made me really think WHY he still lives here

Oh yeah, I guess its for his millions of U.S. dollars he continues to make on the
crappy 'documentarys' he makes. Money does that to people

I disagree, Near.. don't shoot the messenger.. the message he was trying to get through to America was hard to hear and digest because we don't like to face the truth.

I think because he does love our country, he wants the American people to wake up and see the corruption...only then can we work to improve and fix the problems.. pretending that we are innocent and pure is naive and dangerous.. I don't always enjoy MM methods but I do agree with an informed public.. and the corrupt need to be outed.

KD - Maybe you and logansdad can point out to me just where I said people can't speak out against their government. BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT. But I certainly voice MY OPINION when they do.

Yes, I believe MM is anti-American and I think it comes across quite clearly in ALL his writings and film making. The Europians LOVE him for his anti-American stand on most everything. He's in it only for the money that American fools help him earn and will say anything and present anything in anyway...just like using that clip of Heston - when he deceived him. MM lied to him, misrepresented himself and the reason he wanted to interview him. That's the MM way. That's my opinion of him and his work. So...as I speak out my own views...I'm sure the lefties here won't be having a problem with that either.

-----------------

fenix -
1) 21 million people voted in the catagory in total LInda - not for the movie

Oh...thank's for making that correction....whew ..it was hard accepting 21 million people could be that foolish.

2)you can expect to see many of the Academy gowns donated. I don't know how many are donated but I've seen several movie-stars talking about much they paid for their gowns. But I was also referring to all the lefties who attend these functions....their gowns are paid for out of the own funds. As are the mens tux's.

3) As for the Academy knowing quality...you mean money don't you?

I was speaking to the People's Choice awards....used to be actually by the people....now by a 'select/special' [say] group. Not truly the 'peoples' choice anymore since THEY can't noninate anybody they want to...but have to take from the 'offered' list.

I have to wonder how enthusiastically you will all be demeaning Moore after the pharmacutical documentary is released.

Well....wonder no longer. Anything that MM presents has been deceptive so I'm not looking for his next film to be any different. It's his character and the way he misrepresents the subject that I object to. Not that he discusses it.

They talk about how much they are worth Linda, not how much they spent on them. Designers fall all over themselves trying to get their gowns on the red carpet. One great dress on the right actress spells millions in free publicity and sales in the following months as their dress and name ends up in every magazine and on every "who wore what" report the next day. It's kind of like all the loaned jewelry. Sure no one will be able to afford the Harry Winston 6 million dollar diamond necklace but if everyone at the Oscars is wearing Harry Winston, then every woman not there will want to.

Sorry Maggie I have to disagree. I don't think he is much of a messenger. His film (at least Bowling for Columbine) was chopped and edited so badly, he 'pick and chose' what he wanted to be in it.

But! His film made a lot of money, as you know, so isn't one of the points here that you ARE FREE TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT? And that is what I hear so much here, is losing freedoms. If that were so true, TPTB would not allow this film out, no? So there is really free speech in the U.S. By Moores films, and views expressed on message boards like these.

Near, why is someone that wants to uncover the garbage going on in their country always told to go live elsewhere? Why do you see it as a bad thing?

Kraft, you have every right to like this film, and believe every word of it. I, on the other hand, can have an opinion, and not like it.

Wait, its OK to decieve someone to get an interview? no, I don't believe it is ok.
Not under any circumstance. He is old, and frail (Heston) and I felt badly for him when he trusted this man, Moore, and allowed him into his home.

Kraft, do you believe, as I said above that there is free speech in the U.S?

Because there really is. A movie like that in a say a communist country, putting down a leader, would surely never get further than a cutting room floor, and God only knows what would happen to the maker of the film.

Michael Moore and the Loony Liberals - 01/11/2005 13:52

I love surfing whacko liberal websites. From them, I get a daily dose of good humor and ideas for future columns.

The most fun I get is surfing Michael Moore-s website. I love reading the warped political commentary Mr. Moore posts on his site. I am sure in his mind, his ideas make perfect sense, but to me his ideas are just liberal propaganda coming from another Loony Left Coast Liberal.

In fact, since his ideas are so far to the left, I have theorized that some day Hollywood liberals and other whackos around the world will crown Michael Moore ?King of the Loony Liberals¦.

So I was shocked, when I read Moore-s recent editorial ?It's Time to Stop Being Hit...a letter from Michael Moore¦. The editorial appears to be a call to arms to his legion of Loony Liberals around the country. Their new mission: to fight the traditional Democrat Party.

It seems Moore has crowned himself King, almost proving my theory right.

Apparently, according to Moore, the traditional Democrat Party is out of touch with most Democrat voters today. The party needs to move to the left and he proposes they do just that. It-s strange, I thought moving the party to the left is what got Democrats in trouble in the first place.

Mr. Moore, I-ll just call him King Michael from here out, wants to make changes to the current Democrat Party and bring it up to Loony Liberal standards. After all, the Loony Liberals in Hollywood, with the help of Howard (The Screech) Dean and Moveon.org, raised more money than traditional Democrats during the 2004 presidential election.

In his editorial King Michael writes:

?What-s worse is to watch the pathetic sight of the DLC (the conservative, pro-corporate group of Democrats) apologizing for being Democrats and promising to ?purge¦ the party of the likes of, well, all of US!...¦. He continues, ?The days of trying to move the Democratic Party to the right are over."

I am still in shock after reading his words. King Michael, the slim, dashingly handsome, well-dressed, brilliant intellectual genius and King of the Loony Liberals, is going to rescue the Democrat party by going to war against traditional Democrats. In doing so, he wants to move the party FARTHER to the left.

I am not sure what type of mushrooms King Michael had been eating when he came up with his idea, but if anyone believes this can actually happen, then I guess they must also believe that Michael Moore is really a slim, dashingly handsome, well-dressed brilliant intellectual genius. Say that three times real fast after a few beers.

After reading his editorial, my first thoughts were ways Democrats could stop this lunatic from ruining their party. Just think what will happen to our current political system if we let the Loony Liberals have their way. Roughly, 70 percent of middle of the road Democrats will abandon their sinking ship and switch parties.

The Democrat Party would soon consist of a bunch of tree hugging, pony tailed, 60-year-old men who still live in their mothers basements. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention all the anarchist, abortionist, anti-gun, peace loving activist and other assorted whackos who would make up the remaining core of their party.

Who in their right mind would ever vote for a group like that? We will end up with a government that has only one major party, the Republican Party.

Who does King Michael think he is, Captain Ahab chasing Moby Dick? Does he hate George W. Bush so much that he would ruin his own party for fatheaded revenge? Maybe he has a problem with self-esteem, he is slightly overweight after all. Maybe his ball cap is just too tight.

How can Democrats stop King Michael? My first thought was to throw him a box a Twinkies and hope he chokes on the creamy white filling. Wait, too easy, he would wolf them down in a millisecond.

Maybe we should have the guys from ?Queer Eye for a Straight Guy¦ give him a complete make over and pray he becomes a conservative. No, we don't want someone so obnoxious becoming a Republican.

What can we do, think, think-.

Wait a minute. What am I saying? Ronald Reagan would roll over in his grave if any conservative tried to help stop Moore. Of course, we need King Michael running the Democrat Party. What better way to put another conservative in the oval office in 2008?

Please forget my ideas about how to stop this from happening. Please let Mr. Moore have his way. I would actually love to see him running the Democrat party. And being a good sport, I would like to volunteer my services to help the Moore and his Loony Liberal cause any way I can.

Maybe I can hand out Twinkies at the next Michael Moore fundraiser.

Steve Darnell
