It takes too much further thought for my taste. Show the conclusion you want people to come to. Show someone who has a busted thingy
that is not made anymore and getting a repalcement in the mail. Show them as a kid in black and white playing with a toy and unwrapping it today on their desk with a big grin. Show them busting Grandma's gravy boat and bringing her a replacement.

Well I definitely think the dog one is memorable and CUTE and that's a good combination. Especially for those of us with dogs like that (I have two!)... I was amused by the commercial way before I saw that it was an eBay ad.
I'm not sure why some of you are upset about the breakage and loss; the message isn't that what you BUY on eBay is "easily broken", but that things(in some cases, DOGS happen)happen and stuff gets ruined, and eBay's a good place to find replacements.
I also don't have a problem with them emphasizing the "cheap" aspect. I don't care if my buyers think they are getting something 'cheap', as long as I got it much much *cheaper*, that's the bottom line!

JUMPUP - Often companies will wait until after Christmas to start an advertising campaign. You know how all the retail stores have after-Christmas sales? Well, the television industry is very much the same way. Based on supply and demand, the inventory on network TV (and on local television stations as well) is very tight between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This drives the price of commercials up to the highest rates of the year because all of the retailers want to get their message across to the consumers in order to sell more widgets during the holiday season. Conversely, the weeks after Christmas on up through February are the slowest times for TV networks/stations. The rates for advertising time during this period is the lowest of the year. Ebay paid up to 40% less for the commercial time by running the campaign now instead of the month of December. Was this timing right? Who knows, but this is one reason some companies choose to advertise after the Christmas season is over.

Does anybody know where and when they're running these ads? I'm always watching cable channels...haven't seen any of them, and I'd really like to.

Token on Fox, ABC, etc. I watch tv all day and and I just saw them a couple of times. So don't expect it every hour.
The ad was eye catching etc. etc. But they only mention eBay at the end, BUT who/what the heck is eBay and where do I find him/it? Do they sell destroyed houses? My brother repairs houses for a living.
New buyers? I don't stink so.
I didn't see the web address, if the address was there it should stay at least for 3 secconds so people could have more about this eBay and its destroyed houses.

............or the Clapper.
And as for the address?Any browser you type in eBay....nothing else it gets you there.
I am amazed at how you cannot like a site or anything about it that lets you sell anything you like for less than you would pay any normal auction and get exposure to 20 million members and counting?Am I missing something here?

You and I know very well who and what is eBay, but many hundred thousand people don't have any idea about this eBay. This eBay could be a name, a thing a destroyed house, the name of the dog but doesn't give me a hint that they are on the internet and many people don't know what would the address could be, by saying eBay it does't mean anyting, many people don't know what a domain name is and how it's begins. Also many people you go today a new computer and/or connected to the Internet for the first time, so don't know anything about this eBay. ...expect new buyers? I really don't know.

Perhaps the cheap is needed to counter the memory of $500.00 for that lamp. {silly]
