Something is funny about this. How many neg. feedbacks do you get. Out of 1347 they have 48. 5 in the last 7 days Hmmm. Make you think.

I'm reading their negs and their responses to them. . ."Buyer didn't request insurance." Kind of says something, doesn't it? I'd be almost embarassed to make that comment considering they are almost admitting their incompetence. I've had some unproductive dealings with our USPS (trucks that were supposedly broken into and items stolen, missing credit cards, etc.) and now I always request insurance - even if I'm buying it from the USPS!!!! Sad, really. However, I think with the volume of mail they handle every day, they really aren't doing as bad as everyone thinks! Thank goodness our mailperson is as fantastic as she is. She knows who all the people on her route is and even if something is addressed wrong, chances are you'll get it because she has taken the time to get to know who you are. Thanks, Marie!!!

Amazing how may country cookbooks are on auction at one time!! Then the similar tools of the same brand etc. Wow, look at all those CD's... must be easy targets when shipping to somehow get (ahem), lost in the mail...

Actually, I've never had anything lost and we ship only 100 packages a week.

I only looked at "everything else" and what caught my attention was that every item had bids! What are they doing right?

By the way, my nit-wit college age son had to ship an expensive calculator home from several states away. I told him to go to the post office, get a priority video box and ship it home in that.

He called to let us know he mailed it. "Uh, mom, you know I didn't have any bubble wrap or anything so it's just kind of rattling around in the box". Okay. "And, uh, I didn't insure it or anything". Sigh.

It arrived.....the box was completely flattened and the ends that you fold in had popped open.....how the heck that thing got here I will never know, but it sure would have been easy for the USPS to save it for auction if they were actively looking for that kind of thing!

However, I would like to see some formal regulations in writing, stating what criteria they are using to deem an item "auctionable". I don't feel comfortable with an agency policing itself in that way, but in general I have faith in the USPS. Good thread, it's important we keep an eye on this situation.

This is from another post I started.

It angers me that the USPS is auctioning off its lost mail on eBay.

Why you ask.... Let me vent!

1) The starting prices... hmmm they didnt PAY for these items, why do they act like they have an investment with a starting bid at retail?

2) Our rates go up. % of Lost packages goes up. Their inventory goes up. They resell our lost packages and make money coming going and everywhere in between.

3)Scenerio A. You sell an item, Pay for shipping. It gets lost, USPS sells an item, buyer pays for shipping. It gets lost again. USPS miraculously finds the items sells again, buyer pays for shipping... This seems to be a way for USPS workers to ensure the longevity of their careers.

4) Why not have a search available for the lost items. If they can list them in Ebays database... why cant they list them in an internal database where the RIGHTFUL owner has a chance of getting it back?

5) USPS has now become EVERYONE AUCTIONERS competition! They compete in every category... amazing how someone we pay to do a service for us is our competitor. This should make everyone outraged!

A simple suggestion: Everyone use UPS or the like... they have a much lower LOST ratio. They actually FIRE people who tamper with packages and tampering with packages does not ensure their job security.

I SAY BUHUMBUG to USPS AUCTIONS!!

Ok I feel better now....

BTW... isnt it curious that shipping is only 4-10 dollars and the auctions are selling for closer to 100.00? seems reasonable to SWIPE packages that are not insured to bring more into the post office. Do they get bonuses to FIND items to sell?

Last but not least... WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?? WHERE are all those dollars going that are being sent in for auctions?

Jeeze and I forgot to mention.. they make money on the money orders too. JUST REDICULOUS!!!!

I would never purchase from USPS' auctions.

1) TOO MANY NEGS!!!

2) No one person is responsible. Example: a buyer wins a widget. A USPS auction shipper (of whatever status temp? part-time? volunteer? or maybe a friend/relative helping out? who knows!) receives the communique the buyer sent money so the "shipper" packages and ships. Do they care? Well some do and some don't. Because if the buyer has a complaint does the bad USPS shipper get into trouble I don't think so!

The attitude of "I directly will not be affected by this bad shipment so therefore I will not ship responsible."

It is in the same concept of a committee. Whenever a decision is to be made, a committee is formed so that one person can't be blamed.

Bad business in my opinion.

In closing, I would never buy from USPS auctions!

I just took a look at their book auctions for the first time and was stunned at what they charge for shipping! 4 slender cookbooks - $6.00 BOOK RATE Mail (notice they don't even call it Media Mail themselves!). If I were charging 6 bucks to mail 4 books, I'd be outta business pretty fast.

Hey how about auctioning off all the letters that can't be delivered? I bet I can make a profit off the contents if they only give me a chance. It is the same principle isn't it? Why let them go to waste just because they are undeliverable?

I just finished reading the USPS auctions but I forgot to read the feedbacks. I guess I will go back and do that. What irritates me is that they auction off other peoples merchandise and then they charge postage and insurance. How come they can't ship it free.
along with free insurance. I guess they don't trust themselves. Since my items I sell are small UPS is not the way to go. I really think some investigation of the USPS needs to be done. I can't imagine all those items have been lost,it seems a bit overwhelming. I sure hope they have to pay the same fees as us.

GEE.......I wonder if any of MY lost stuff is there??

Wouldn't it be 2 cool if people started claiming the items for sale were items that were lost in the mail??

It is STILL beyond me how so many packages are "lost" when each one has TWO ADDRESSES!!

It also frosts me that the PO doesn't reimburse for POSTAGE with an insurance claim. I've STILL got to resend the item THEY LOST!!

Am I ambivilent? Yes and no.
It's called PMS because Mad Cow Disease was taken.
The statement below is TRUE
The statement above is FALSE.

I just looked at their seller list (looking for my stuff I never received) and they have nothing listed?

Did someone stop this?
