Thanks to Lotsafuzz and eastwest I thought a baby name thread would be a great idea.

As some of you know I am having a child in the coming months. So is eastwest's wife. Now everyone can pull together and give some ideas for the names. Boy and Girl. If the names have some sort of meaning either social or personal, lets us know.

Also a weight and length contest would be nice. I am afraid to think what this baby is going to weigh in at considering the last one.

Thanks

Meya or Melissa for a girl

Pierce for a boy

One thing I wished we would have done with one of our boys was to have used my maiden name for a middle name. Jarrett would have made a great middle name for a boy. Alas, we didn't think of it at the time.

It's best to decide on a name in advance. There are some kids out there whoes mothers were obviously still under the influence of drugs when they named the baby!

Whatever you name your child, please, *please* don't torture the name--use normal spelling! I can't tell you how many times a day I have to deal with kid's names that are out of the Twilight Zone.

When I was prego, I picked out:

Chatelaine Spreng for a girl (out of one of those smarmy romance novels responsible for the pregnancy ) Nickname: Chatel

Boy: Clair, James, Tyler, Christopher, Ryan

Either: Jamie

Just remember that the little cute bundle will grow up and will NOT enjoy a little person's name like Jimmy or Johnny as the REAL name.

Interestingly enough, as I was waiting at the Dr. for a well-baby check on my son (James Ryan) there was a lady there with a baby girl named Chatel named for the same reason as I wanted to name one! LOL

I was in labor and the tom and I were walking the halls of the maternity ward when he announced, "I'm not sure I like the name we picked out for a boy."

I stared at him a full moment before sputtering it was a fine time to change his mind.

We finally compromised on a name and now I can't imagine the younger kitten being named anything else.

One other thought-if you have more than one child, try to choose names that dont' sound alike. It makes yelling at them tough when you yell the wrong name...

Girl: Kimberly Dawn
Susanna Marie
Victoria Renee

We never got a chance to use the girl names.

Boy: Andrew Scott
Michael James

We're traditionalists when it comes to names.

tokay99-Oh! thats why when you post you put 7? months and waiting, or something like that! Congratulations!

I had total brain block (whats new?) when they asked me with #2 daughter what the name should be, I did HAVE it picked out, bio father didn't care, I don't even think he came but once.
I had picked out:

Virginia (Jinny for short)I love that name! Victoria is neat too!

and

Daniel (after my brother and best friend)

Well I totally went duh when they asked me, so I guess I picked one out of the air, and named her Elizabeth

My first, knew from the start, she's named after my late mother, Patricia Jayne

I liked giving my boys strong, masculine names. The girls got Irish-Gaelic first names, but strong middle names they could use professionally.

Richard Lawrence (after both grandfathers' middle names)

Levi Adam (Levi is a well used family name & Adam just because I liked it)

Regan Colleen (One of the daughters in Shakespeare's King Lear was Regan. My girl lives up to her namesake!)

Kelsey Cathleen (Kelsey after my favorite friend in high school.)

Grandchildren: Robert(Bobby), Cashell(Cash) and Emily.

Other names I am fond of: Conrad, Jared, Jordan, Daniel, Sarah, Rebecca, Heidi and... Coolhipsjivebahama - the nickname for all the babies while in womb.

My kids:
Calvin Hobbes (Yes, Calvin & Hobbes)
Samuel Jackson (No, not a president)

The NO! Rules:
1. No weird spellings, ie: Steffaannii

2. No adjectives, ie: Serendipity

3. No Nouns, ie: Memory

4. Don't put "La" in front of Dad's name, ie: LaDon, LaGeorge, LaRay

5.No Stupid names, ie: Tallula-Bell (yes, a friend named his baby this)

6. No city names, ie: Dallas, Austin, El Paso

6.If you have twins, No: Jack and Jill, Adam and Eve, Brooks and Dunn

Please keep in mind that these suggestions are coming from a woman named Tex Montana...

When my sister-in law was pregnant with her baby, they were calling him "Cletus" while he was in the womb, as in "Cletus the Fetus."

I had a sonogram early on when I was carrying my son. The nurse told me that she had never been wrong about reading sonograms and that I was definately carrying another little girl. So, we spent all our time coming up with girl names. Then along came a bouncing baby boy.

The girl name I had picked out was Savannah - no middle name. My husband didn't like it cause he kept saying people would call her Savannah Georgia. I still loved it though.

Many moons ago, I ran across a guy who had named his sons with variations on his name, which was Charles. One son was named Charlemagne. Another was Charleroi.

I remember thinking "Those POOR kids!" The guy might as well have named them Sue.

I have the same suggestion about not being too cute when picking the name. My oldest son is Daniel (goes by Dan) and I wanted my second son to be named Andrew (go by Drew). That way I could shout, "DAN-AND-DREW!" (get it? Dan Andrew...) Good thing I realized the silliness of that and chose Anthony for my second. "DAN-TONY!" "

You should have at least 2 names for boys and 2 for girls. We have even amounts of dark skin and hair (Italian, Japanese) and fair skinned blondes (German)in our families that one name would not fit both. After the baby is born, say the names out loud and look at the baby...you'll feel which name is the right one.

I suggest
'Cassandra Lee' for a girl (pronounced Cassaundra and nicknamed Saundra)
'Andrew' or 'Nickolas' for a boy

Another suggestion, say the full name outloud. Sometimes the first middle and last names together just don't fit. My son Dan is Daniel Fernando... I keep hearing "Rosanna Dana" from SNL when I say it too fast.
Good Luck!!

Sara Michele Andrea Runhilde Theann for a girl (her initials would be S.M.A.R.T.).

Upton Charles for a boy (UpChuck for short).

Hope I have been of some assistance.
