Just curious after reading through some of the post these last few days I see complaints about the type of threads here in the RT - too much fluff, copies of old email jokes (I'm guilty of) etc. - Seems to be a lot of fuss over what is posted - but if this place isn't for kicking back and sharing a few jokes or life experiences then what exactly is it for? I tell my kids that if they aren't willing to work on fixing a perceived problem, then they don't have the right to complain about it. So, IMO, if the topics here aren't good enough for you then wouldn't it make sense for you to start a thread about something you are interested in?

I thought this was a place to relax, share and have a little fun - sometimes it is. But, there's too much worry IMO about who is who on another board, or what they said or meant to say. Why bother? Why care? - I just don't get it.

I come here for the view. The Sunrise, the beautiful Sunsets, the mountains in the distance, the babbling brook with the little fish and playground for the kids. It's really quite pretty.

I come here to read EO, help when I can, read other opinions to help ME in my sales. I come to meet folks I came to know on the boards and I come to relax and just hang out

I'm here for the fun, the sharing and connecting with other people.
I work at home and this board gives me a little break in between painting and potting and listing to share stories and ideas with others.

I started to post here instead of the other artsy fartsy type boards I used to post to because here you (for the most part) were open to sharing new ideas and more accepting of those with different opinions.
In spite of the fact that most of the people at these other sites were creative types they lacked the flexiblity that I found in this bunch.
I still think this is a much better place.
It is going through a tough time right now but I have faith that there are enough people here to ride out this present trend where a good percentage of the post disintergrate into personnal mud fights.
This too shall pass.

Barry (TRUEHEART) Barris I had a good idea of what you come here for - You've cheered me up more than once!

I just wonder if this is sometimes a hunting ground for old garbage... some post lead me to think that That is what this place is all about. The jokes and sharing are just the filler... afterthoughts.

Oh well, maybe I'm just in a bad mood. Hubby and I are going on a "real" date tonight. Got free tickets to see psychic medium, George Anderson. Should be much more interesting then the Home Depot date last night. LOL

Mybiddness, I have just returned to this board after a long absence. There are some people posting here I knew ages ago (in board years) and it has been fun to get reacquainted. I've also enjoyed meeting new people -- such as yourself. While I am not at all incapable of participating in a melee, I try like heck not to start them, because -- as you said above -- they truly serve no purpose, beyond allowing those few with perennial peritonitis to vent their viscera onstage.
I'd rather have a good time, sling barbs with those who KNOW we're kidding, and follow the ever-changing sigline of Barry (you really do make me smile) Barris. (hahaha, Lotsa, figures you'd like him, too!)

And one other thing, Mybiddness, if I may: Please don't ever feel that you have to explain why you post what you post or apologize for it. No one has the right to demand that you entertain them, nor to snivel when you don't.

Thanks for asking...

And I'm just here 'cause I know that Barry (I've always got Southern Comfort) Barris will share.

Actually, Mybidness, a scant 9 months ago (and you may remember this), all this silly "other board" stuff wasn't a part of AW. There were other boards, and lots of people posted at more than one...maybe even most people. It was not remarkable, nor were the 'goings on' at those other boards.

But I share your curiousity at why anyone feels the need to bring that here, but maybe it's because people who post (or read) at several boards are also here, so the conversation spills over? It's a guess.

As to why those who find the topics not to their liking do not start threads of interest to them...well, I don't know. Perhaps a pretense to superiority through criticism is more likely to gain "credibility" than the probable revealing of quite ordinary qualities by action?

Im glad Pat is here again...and Im always pleased to see Beth. How can one stay away from such great people who ARE here? Sometimes, one cant or wont go to other places, so just consider RT part of the neighborhood where one goes to hang out with their homey's

Barry(gotta love him)Barris....This place wouldnt be the same without ya

Beth, if you don't cut it out, I'm gonna start sendin' ya email again, and you KNOW what *that* means!
You've given me some real laughs today...

Maui, like I've said before, you ARE sweet, and your good opinion of me means more than you know. I'm glad you're here, too.

Mybidness, Thanks for raising a good and timely question.
I come here to share a little, learn a little and give a little.
I enjoy other peoples thoughts and views. I may not agree with them all nor expect others to agree with me. It would be a dull world if we did.
I do find it difficult on a personal level to understand why some posts are designed to deliberately denigrate or smear another poster for no other reason than malice or just plain disrespect.
I think that disagreement is healthy and encourages one to see other aspects of an issue, and discussed on a civil level is fine.
This is an open forum and anyone has the right to say their piece. As posters we have the right of reply.
As posters we are also human beings and should extend to others tolerance of their right to their feelings and thoughts. It is a great shame that not all posters have aquired the social skills to interact within a diverse meeting place of people.
At the end of the day it is up to each individual poster to chose to post, respond or ignore a thread. It is also up to each individual poster to recognise when posts are only "sparring" or becoming malicious. Above all, don't lose sight of the fact that "real life" goes on. Your choice of "cyber-life" is an option you can enter and exit from at the touch of a button!

Bob, Downunder but never down.

Plsmith I'm sorry but I'm soooo LMAO - you said:

"as you said above -- they truly serve no purpose, beyond allowing those few with perennial peritonitis to vent their viscera onstage."

Even on my best day - with all brain cells intact - I couldn't have put that sentence together! LOL - in fact, I'm scrambling for the dictionary now....

I gathered from your post yesterday that you were a returnee - I'm personally always glad to see new faces - so I hope my "what the heck is going on" didn't come across as a slam against any returning posters. I don't have a history with other boards or know (or care) what goes on with them. I joined AW in December - noticed the RT around March or so and started posting soon after. So, I don't have much of a board history.

I started posting here for those times that I want a distraction from work or other worries. It has for the most part been a great place to hang out.

The fact that I don't always agree with others or they don't agree with me only helps keep this place interesting. Otherwise, I'm sure I'd have gotten bored and moved on long ago.

Of course I always agree with Barry(for President)Barris
