Censored by Helen, the RT police. No activity on the board for how many days and she's still chasing people off... RIP RT

My question is why?

Pixia, why slouch so low to post such tacky threads here? In that respect this thread has a resemblance to some posted by Bear.

I've noticed that although you post "off topic" threads on Ebay Outlook, you chose not to post this nasty thread there. Could it be that you have less respect for this board and the people who post here? If so, why don't you confine your posting activity to Ebay Outlook?

It was of a very large lady in a small swimming suit giving a sexy smile. It was not porno and I did not mean to offend anyone. Some of my best friends are fat!

I am disappointed in that you removed the picture. You do have as much a right to post to the RT as do others. They could always choose not to look at the picture, or to not read comments left by others.

Apparently, we are going to have a roaming censor patrolling the boards, subjecting us to their interpretation of what is good or bad.

My partner was eating today and first of all I sat down and was looking at my toe as I dropped a desk on it yesterday when we were moving things and the toenail turned blue green. So he told me it was gross and to put my sock back on. Next I looked at the pic that Pixiamom posted and I said "WoW". He asked me what I was looking at so I showed him and he said it was disgusting and asked me if I was trying to spoil his lunch.

Helen made a comment and questioned the topic but I don't see that she's trying to chase anyone off, just stating her opinion.

Seriously, aren't there some men that really get turned on by fat women, the fatter the better?

Pixiamom,

We all have the right to state our opinion and disagree. The fact that you do not have the courage of your convictions and chose to remove the offensive photo is interesting....but to blame my few words for your action is both absurd and disingenuous.

You might observe, for example, that when you disagree with my opinion on Ebay Outlook that I don't run for the hills or attribute your words in opposition to mine as the cause of slow activity for the last few days. How silly that would be.

In fact, an occassional disagreement increases interest.

There are several definitions of nasty. Helen, I consider your treatment of people on the RT and EO boards as extremely nasty. Name calling is nasty. You profess on the EO board that the RT is a kinder, gentler place, then attack EO's on their first post here. You seem particularly obsessed with attacking certain individuals, including me. Honestly, if you are morbidly obese, I did not know it. The image was not meant to offend anyone and has no special meaning to me except it was highly unusual so I posted it to the board where we are supposed to share non-eBay things and removed it when you were offended. Maybe you should post your rules so we know in advance what offends you.

I have never found Helen to be nasty. I do not think she was targeting you, just making an observation, but obviously you felt bad about the picture and took it off. How can you defend some that post on EO when they clearly target and spew nasty-ness all the time but call Helen on it?

Excellent points, Deichen!

Pixiamom,

You cannot find a single instance in which I have engaged in "name calling" on Ebay Outlook where you seem to have such a proprietary interest. If you can, post it here, in context, with a link.

Neither have I been nasty to new members here as you claim. Perhaps you have extrapolated my battles with Linda to include everyone that I encounter in your bizarre imagination.

And, to insinuate that I may be fat or morbidly obese since I found your photo objectionable only illustrates your own propensity to be "nasty". My personal photos have been posted here for years and judged beautiful by one.

pixiamom - I didn't find the picture particularly offensive. If you are that much overweight and choose to dress in that manner, you are opening yourself up for all kinds of things, including ridicule. Just MHO. Having said that, Helen and I have disagreed in the past and I have never taken offense to it nor have I run from it. Heck, I'm glad we don't all agree all the time. That's just not natural.

That photo was a lot less offensive than some I've received in emails lately.

prof - We were also at Wendy's a week ago and two very morbidly obese people were in line. Now, you can get salads at Wendy's. That's usually what I get. Is that what they got? NO! They had FOUR large chili's and at least five burgers on that tray. We won't go to the number of french fries they had. Let's just say the number of ff containers were more than the number of burgers. It was enough to make you sick. These are the very people who will sue Wendy's because they blame Wendy's on their obesity. It's insane.

Being in the healthcare field, I wanted to choke some sense into them. They were walking heart attacks.

"Heck, I'm glad we don't all agree all the time. That's just not natural."

Nor is such agreement easily found in an active forum about any field of interest...especially politics and social issues. Neither is it unusual to find heated discussions on such topics as art, literature and photography.

Pixiamom, this board was fairly dead and as you suggest resting in peace before you arrived. An active forum requires a good balance of opinion and especially a good leader. We lost all of that several years ago.

But don't despair. Many boards related to the auction community or boards that evolved from that interest are slow right now. One has lost it's leader and another without a good leader but promising is now losing it's balance.

To blame this board's lack of activity on my few posts is nothing but a pitifully uninformed figment of your imagination. Blame it instead on lack of disorder.

Disorder unites us... Should I add a smiley face? Hmmmmm....

Pixi: Maybe the problem is that Helen can be rather abrupt in her postings, and sometimes that comes across as harsher than I think she really wants to sound. She doesn't use the usual "girl" devices of couching her posts in "I think," "maybe," "perhaps," etc.

In the past I've been a bit taken aback, momentarily, by responses she's posted to something I've said. I've usually succeeded in looking past it, knowing that her purposes are sound. ~Adele

HEY! I use those softening phrases ("I think", "perhaps", etc.) and I don't think that they're "girl" devices. Don't get me wrong, I'm in touch with my feminine side, but those devices are also used by gentlemen.

If I were being really nasty, I might call them weasel words. However, on balance I prefer to think of them as simply softeners.

Roadsmith, you are right that I don't "couch" my thoughts or use the deference that generally defines some women's manner of speech. And sometimes in this type of communication, it's not easy to recognize humorous nuance or irony that might be intended, especially with amateur writers such as you might encounter on a chat board. It was certainly not my intention to appear harsh to you and if that's the case I apologize.

BTW...I see that I did use one of the "couch words that you suggested, "perhaps" in my reply to Pixiamom. I'm sincerely sorry about that too.

Robin Lakoff wrote a good little book about linguistic sexism titled Language and Woman's Place.

Gotta love this line from Linda:

I listen to and read Glenn Beck...but sometimes, at least for me, he gets way too dramatic when making a point.

Talk about someone who gets way too dramatic!! LOL!!! I sure don't miss that nut job.

Neglus, that board is not connected to Reverend Colin although several posters who shared his political ideology and used to post here are there now. That includes Bear, Linda, Twelvepole, and a few others.

I found the board interesting to read while "Widge" and a few other good posters were there to counter the right wingers.
