"Thanks Helen! Good to see you too."

"Looks like I won't be around quite as much as I thought I would... on a lark I applied for the only graphics job offered here in town for the past 3 months or so. Figured with all the low priced insta-artists being churned out by the local Barbazon School of Graphic (be an artist or just look like one) I didn't have much of a chance but I interviewed yesterday and got the call yesterday afternoon they apparently canceled the rest of the scheduled interviews and hired me. Can you say RELIEF?!!"

Congratulations, Fenix! I would love to have a job like that! We have a small community college in our neighborhood with a good art department. I took every class that they had to offer...some more than once, including illustration, drawing and design.

You must have an impressive portfolio to land a job like that so quickly!

Thank you Helen. The crazy thing is that he hasn't actually seen anything I've done. He never asked to see my portfolio. I benefited from two things I guess.
1) A good solid resume that shows I know the business and
2) Being a hell of a sales person. I sold myself like a prized bull at the county fair.

Things have kind of sucked lately and I knew that indulging myself in my own thoughts for three more months while I wait for the next round of shows to start was not going to work. This job was much more than a paycheck. I needed a diversion and I went in to the interview knowing that I was fighting for more than just a financial lifeline.

I'm almost willing to believe that this time that light at the end of the tunnel really isn't an oncoming train.... Almost.

Lol, Kiara... Keep your eyes glued to this page while spinning around until dizzy and then maybe you too will see it!

Glad to see you still have your sense of humor, Helen.

Congrats on the new job, Fenix and good luck with the upcoming shows also. There is still lots of money out there but the trick is finding those who have it and getting them to part with some of it - but then it's always been that way.

Thank you both.

Kiara - I know what you mean about the shows. I did two last month and although I didn't do what I have done in the past at either of them, I figure that I still did pretty good condidering how things are right now. The only disappointment was that because of the economy, neither did build-offs (they were both bike shows). The promotor of the first one said that so many have been hit so hard this year that it wasn't economically feasible for some of the independant builders to go all out on a custom build and since some of the best bikes in recent years have been from the independents (The winner of the last two builds his bikes in his garage at home on his free time.) he just decided not to do it this year and the other promotor followed suit.

One of the biggest ones I was really looking forward to has been postponed til the fall. It's the most expensive show of the year and the promotor decided to wait a bit and see how the economy goes because he wanted to be more certain it would be profitable for the vendors. He's a really great guy and one of the reasons I enjoy his shows so much is that he goes the extra mile for his vendors so although we were all disappointed in the delay, everyone I've talked to agrees that we really appreciate that he still continues to think about more than just his own bottom line.

I've already knocked a few off my schedule this year that I was planning to do. Smaller shows in areas that have been harder hit are just not worth the risk right now.

Wow! Doctor Phil (as smarmy as he may be) seems to have the whole thing worked out - even volunteers to design a nursery etc...I think things may be ok and octomom is even sounding a little more sane now. She may still be "working" the situation but it seems like there are going to be some controls and oversight in place so she can't grab money and spend on plastic surgery or (god forbid) more in vitro. I guess we can all move on now.

Found this in a nursery rhymes book, I was reading to my granddaughter.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children she didn't know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread.
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.
