"""""and the blacks who instigated this (Democrats!)

Just curious why you felt it necessary to point this fact out? "Instigated"?

Cheryl """""

Here's the FULL sentence:

""I found it disgusting...he's a pop star and the blacks who instigated this (Democrats!) kinda forgot that Jackson did NOT want to be black.""

YES, a BLACK Conressman instigated it: It's a fact.
YES, he (Jackson) is ONLY a pop star, NOT someone worthy of a moment of silence in our legislature.

Profe51's got it right: Pretty silly, but in the long run, so what? """"

Mingotree: shows a lowering of standards as to the merits of thosee who should be honored ...a reflection of the lowering of standards of the American people.

Cash,"""As to the barely hidden racism in the original post, """

Mingotree:FACTS are not racism, those words weren't racist...accusations of racism need facts to back them up.

Cash:""Cheryl, you're not expecting an honest answer to your question, are you?"""

Personal insult? And the above makes YOU a liar.

However, isn't it nice that you guys got a THREAD going???

Helen - I agree. It seems people have to idolize someone and if not Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett, it's some sports player who got into trouble over one thing or another.

Really, with the mess things are in, Congress doesn't need to take time out for moments of silence. The Rev. Sharpton, IMHO, seems to be slowing losing his marbles.

My anger in this thread is the original comment made by Mingotree. . ."the blacks who instigated this (Democrats!) kinda forgot that Jackson did NOT want to be black."

Turns out he was just terrified of looking like his father. With a father like his, I can't blame him.""""

So you believe that all blacks look so much alike that to look different they have to turn white? I don't believe that at all, IT is racist. There is such a thing as plastic surgery if one is weird enough to not want to look like their father...don't have to change skin color.

BTW, "instiagted" is not an evil word, it means started.

"BTW, 'instiagted' [sic] is not an evil word, it means started."

I'm sure that you know, and would have thought that you gave us credit for knowing, that "instigate" connotes quite a bit more than "started."

You instigate a rebellion, you don't instigate a tea.

1. to urge on, spur on, or incite to some action, esp. to some evil to instigate others to strife
2. to cause by inciting; foment to instigate a rebellion

Regarding "Personal insult? And the above makes YOU a liar. "
First, there's a big difference between not being honest and being a liar; in this particular instance, the difference is that many racists won't acknowledge honestly that they're racists to others OR THEMSELVES.

Secondly, I don't quite see where I was a liar, but whatever.

Thirdly, doesn't the use of a smiley face there border on smiley abuse?

Cash: I wasn't involved in that business about looking like the father, so I didn't reply. I think that plastic surgery that goes as far as his did (and as many others also do) is an entirely different subject, most likely having to do with dysmorphia (Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD)).

Mingotree:FACTS are not racism, those words weren't racist...accusations of racism need facts to back them up.
BUT YOU haven't proved I said anything racist...you just accuse.

Cash: I don't know where it is chiseled in stone that accusations of racism need facts to back them up. In a court of law surely, but we're not there are we? I am perfectly entitled to believe that your statement and most especially the way it was phrased is indicative of racism. I'm even perfectly entitled to be wrong in that belief. I am entitled to use my 58 years of listening to people talk, observe how they phrase things and to then correlate that with my experience of people's racism or lack thereof. I never promised 100% accuracy, and would love to believe that you're not racist. I'm more willing to believe that you don't THINK you're racist; almost 30 years ago I spent 6 months in Mississippi and quickly learned how prevalent that can be.

During the last several years, Mingo has expressed on many occasions her aversion to racism and to those who tolerate racism.

In this case, I believe that Mingo's fast and feisty fashion resulted in just a poor choice of words.

Helen, I am not that familiar with Mingo, but have always found you to be straightforward.

Mingo, apparently I jumped to an unsupported conclusion based on your word choice, and I apologize for any hurt feelings this caused. As regards my comments about an "honest response" -- well, those were predicated on the assumption that you were racist, in which case I don't expect honest responses.

This is probably not the first or last time that I'll be wrong about something this week. I sincerely apologize, as I can imagine how it must feel to be characterized as racist when one isn't.

Please accept my apology.

I've had a number of disagreements with Mingo too, Cash, but I'm fairly sure that she did not intend to make that statement as we interpreted it. I also know that she will never admit that she was wrong.

It was very kind of you to accept my understanding of the situation and apologize.

C'mon,ya did..admit it...I'm so lovable who wouldn't miss me?!

I peeked at that BOMM site and even Linda and Twelve miss me!
Twelve has changed a little (if it's really him) but Linda? Never...my GAWD! The energy that woman has....'course she could just C&P her own posts but she must like typing. The site did NOT tempt me to join.

Peace to all .... (maybe)

I'll throw my apology hat into the ring as well.

Ming - Linda will never change. It takes a bigger person than she could ever be. But, the way I look at it is, it takes all kinds to make the world go round. Without people like Linda, we might not be able to appreciate people like Helen quite as much.

Now, I'm off to bake in my hot office. This summer has been very cruel. Hot and cold, hot and cold. Guess what today is?

Sudden deaths seem to have a greater impact because I think it makes us step back and take a look at our own mortality. Here today; gone tomorrow.
Here today gone tomorrow, one can only wish the entire Congress will be gone soon!

Cheryl, my old computer is falling apart but thank goodness, my mouse has a smooth and speedy scroll feature! It seems to recognize, all by itself, an emerging onslaught of baseless allegations and ever lengthening copy paste articles from right wing screeds.

Thanks for your good words! You, of course are similarly appreciated just as all the other good people who post here now including those who have posted here in the past.

Mingotree,
You must understand it is 'chic' these days to be a liberal democrat and adore 'BLACK'
Black is beautiful, black is in,as long as it does not threaten their security.
Reminds me of Vitamin C and later anti-oxidant,there was a time everything was laced with Vitamin C,even NAIL POLISH REMOVER contains Vitamin C.
Of course Vitamin C has been replaced by anti-oxidant which has just been replaced by Obama!
ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS ,YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM UNDERSTANDING THEIR BEHAVIOR!
