Why don't you respond to the "you've got cash" notice from paypal with an email to the buyer asking them if they've mailed their MO payment yet. Don't even mention paypal until they bring it up.

They will probably tell you that they have already sent you payment using paypal.

Respond by telling them you that since you don't have a paypal account, you never read any of the emails from paypal. Tell them you simply delete them unopened. Then remind them to send out a MO for $xx.xx.

Hi Astraea,

When I receive the "you've got cash" emails, I hit the "reply" button (it goes to the buyer) and tell them that I do not accept Paypal and to please cancel their payment and use one of the other methods listed in my auction. I don't only take money orders - I also accept several other online payment methods, which I'd actually prefer that they use.

nannybeth Sounds like from the cluelessness of some of EG's high bidders she probably needs to shout.

You could always close your paypal account. Thats what I did.

When they STILL ask me if I take paypal, I respond with "due to some problems that my fellow sellers have experienced with paypal, I have closed my account." At least then, they know that A)I do not accept the payments, and 2)Don't even try to convince me to open an acct because I can't!

thats just my 2 cents worth

I think the NO PAYPAL banner would be confusing... I would state in your ad (the very first thing) that you do not accept PayPal payments or Personal Bank Checks...

Here is what your ad should look like...

Item Pictures....

Sorry... but I do not accept PayPal or Personal Checks. I gladly accept Money Orders, Blah, Blah...

Description of your item;

Additional Auction Terms;

Personally I will pass up an auction 90% of the time if the seller does not accept Personal Checks or Paypal or Billpoint (I look at the item picture 1st, then check the terms and then I read the full description of the item). I also pass up all auctions that do not have the shipping cost listed and what shipping carrier options I have. I do not like anything mailed to me by UPS or Fedex. Good ol'usa mail service is best for me.

I just won a bid on an item... The seller was slow in e-mailing me after the auction closed. I blew that off, I sent her the PayPal payment and my PO Box address. She then told me she wanted to send it FEDEX as she works for them and wanted to know if she could and that she felt this was a BONUS for me. I refused her bonus as I have a PO BOX and she gave 3 options in the auction ad on how she would mail it at the buyers request. (Fedex, USPS Priority, & USPS First Class) I picked Priority, when I told her that I wanted it to go Priority, I guess she got mad and sent my money back through PayPal. She did not e-mail me why she did this, so I e-mailed her and asked why she sent the money back. And she said she was fed up with eBay and the demanding/rude people.

I still have not wrote her back yet today, but will do so. Personally why she thinks my request was demanding is beyond me, as she offered all 3 shipping options in the ad, but I guess she changed her mind and only wants to ship through FEDEX.

This to me is too much of a wishy washy seller and I am still debating if I should leave her a neutral at least for backing out of her own sale.

I do accept PayPal. I have a PayPal logo in my auction as well as info in my TOS, and a link in my invoice. Guess what occasionally happens. I get email asking, "Do you accept PayPal?" Right below the question is my invoice that I sent them. Complete with forms of payment accepted, including a link to PayPal.

So, whether or not you accept PayPal, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

In defense of all of us stupid bidders----I usually am pretty careful to note the pay methods allowed in an auction, but last week I was watching three or four at once, and had actually noticed that one auction said no personal checks in big capitals, but I didn't make a written note of that, and in the heat of the moment I was the high bidder. As I was emailing the seller, I noticed the caveat and begged on my knees for an exception to be made for my perfect feedback record. The seller said fine, but I felt awful.

Sometimes, we don't remember everything we've read once. A little slack should be cut for us, I think.

cmbtboots----maybe EGirl's terms are not clear. Even if they are and you were face to face with a person you would not holler at them that you don't take charges, etc even though you have it posted in your shop that you take cash or checks only. You would not only lose a customer, you could get the snot slaped out of you or worse yet--shot. I feel that you have to be nice when doing business on the internet and in my openion if you are not, your not nice in person. I pass on all TOS that are in caps and sound mean or rude to me. Egirl--if you read this, I am nice and I'm sorry if you took it that I'm not. I deal with the public daily in our shop and I know that it is important to treat people nice and not talk down to them if you want return customers and we have a lot of them.

Okaaaaaay. I feel properly scolded. I promise never to do that again! In defense, I once emailed a seller to say I'd be going to the bank for a money order in the next day or so, and she emailed that her "no personal checks" was there to protect her from low-feedback buyers and I could send her my check! I guess at that point I got the impression that some of the TOS were negotiable.

Executive Girl, I closed mine in December. I just receivd a note from paypal today saying I've got cash, or whatever it says.

I want to know, why doesn't paypal tell these people making the payments that there is no account under that name?

When I closed my paypal account there was a big warning that I could not open another account once I closed mine. OK, so, how do I get the cash? It makes no sense to me.

I just emailed her and told her to send me a money order or Cahsier's check, because I closed my acct. It says in my TOS and my end of auction letter MONEY ORDER OR CASHIER"S CHECK. I did finally get them to stop, for the most part, sending me personal checks!

I understand the bidders side of it, but, when you've got tons of auctions closing a week, or in some cases daily, it can get to be a real pain when you have to remind several people DAILY.

Cin ~ That's exactly the problem. Paypal allows their users to send payments to ANYONE - and they even state "Even if they don't have a Paypal account" which makes it seem to some of these bidders that we don't have to do anything to accept the money. Paypal is very deceiving.

When I closed my paypal account there was a big warning that I could not open another account once I closed mine. OK, so, how do I get the cash? It makes no sense to me.

Good question! I would like to know the answer to that one too! I got the same notice when I closed my account - so if I am unable to open another Paypal account just HOW are we supposed to get that "cash" that we supposedly have waiting for us!! I would like to have Paypaldamon answer that one! I'll bet you that we ARE able to open another account - that that was just Paypal's scare tactics (making us think we'll never be able to have another Paypal account again). We could only be so lucky.

Well, I asked the question to PaypalDamon on another thread:

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=326689

And he seems to know NOTHING about not being able to open up another account with Paypal once you close your account.

What's up with that????????
