So, two guys died and went to hell. When the devil went to welcome them to an eternity of suffering he found the two men wrapped up in parkas, mittens and hats. The devil asked the men what they were doing, to which they replied, "well ya know, devil, we're from Washinton State. Other than a couple weeks in the summer, it's always cold and damp there, so we're pretty used to having to bundle up to keep warm." This stirred up the devil's anger, and off he went to turn up the heat.

Later he returned to the men and found they were still bundled in their winter clothing. "How can you wear that clothing in this heat?" the devil screamed. "Well, ya know, we're from Washington State and we're pretty used to the cold and dampness" they replied again. Infuriated, the devil left to turn the heat up as high as it would go. He was determined to cause the agony they had earned in their eternity in hell.

Later, when the screams and agony of the souls in hell reached a deafening pitch, the devil returned to the two men. There he found them in shorts and tee-shirts, barbecuing, soaking up a cold one and having a nice time. Frothing with anger, the devil asked them what they thought they were doing. "Well," said the two guys, "In Washington you don't get many nice, warm days so you learn to take advantage of it when you get one.

Livid, the devil stormed off again! He thought about his conversations with the two men and decided he would turn the heat completely off and cause them the suffering the so deserved by freezing them.

Icicles formed everywhere. Souls were screaming in torment. Their anguished cries were deafening. Now, thought the devil, I must have succeeded in causing them agony.

This time, when he approached the two men, he found them bundled back up in their winter clothing hopping up and down, slapping each other on the back, laughing and having a grand old time.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" the devil cried out. The two men replied, "well, ya know, we're from Washington State and we figured the Mariners must of just won the Pennant because it's a cold day in hell!

Hey now -

We are not that bad!!! We are loving it here - baseball in fall!! My son lives, eats and breathes baseball so this is a great time here in Seattle!

The only bad thing is the box office rates for the playoffs went up to $40,$50 or $70. That is your only choices. Which pretty much rules out taking the whole family. That is box office prices - think what scalpers will get. Guess that fancy roof over Safeco Field had to get paid for one way or another!

And we are so so glad that ummm. what's his name is no longer here to enjoy our wins as he doesn't deserve to!!

GO MARINERS!!!! or as my boys say WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!!! GO MARINERS!!!

My son also thinks it is great that I went to high school and graduated with one of their players - makes being a major league player seem more within his reach.

In addition, it has not rained her in a couple of weeks and was shorts weather yesterday and today

Boysmommy3: Just a joke. Hell can feeze over all it needs to cuz the M's are going ALL THE WAY! Remember Sick's Stadium? (Now an Eagle Hardware store. Yuck!) I grew up in that field with my ol' man sneaking me out of school for the games. Now I work a block away from Safeco Field - what a grand day Friday was with sweeping Chicago (other than trying to get out of town after the game.)

Really hope you can get your boys there for the next series. And geez, hasn't our weather been wonderful? The past few weeks of gorgeous weather is why we live in Washington. May not get it often, but we do know how to enjoy it when the sun shines!

GO M'S !!

That traffic was awful wasn't it?

But everyone on staff at my drs were all dressed in Mariners uniforms, radios were on in every section of the building.

Go Mariners!

(and we MIGHT get the World Series, I still can't believe it, but love it! )

And after last night's 2-0 win over the Yankees it was inching closer to the freezing level. Todays game heated everything back up again! The boys in hell are back at the BBQ sucking suds. What happen?? The last I looked at my Yahoo baseball diamond, in the corner of my computer at work, it was the bottom of the fifth and 1-0 Seattle. By the time I got to the bank on my way home the game was over and it was 1-7 NY!! (that tell ya anything about how frigging long it takes to get out of Seattle?) And get this... our friendly little bank clerk was wearing a NY baseball cap! I thought there was a law here about letting traitors out in public! And to make matters worse, our real estate agent stopped by this eveing wearing a dreaded red & gold Cougars jacket.

What a horrible day. BUT, the Yanks can't win at Safeco! Come on Friday!!!

Good God, I was so enthused with this game, and then, WHAT? was it the 8th inning, bam bam bam bam bam bam all in one inning?

I just now realized Friday is the 13th, BUT WE GOT SAFECO FIELD! (even though I hated the damned thing when they proposed, started and finished! ) I like it now!

They can do it there! Yes yes yes they can, we'll go to the series!

Though my brother predicts NY vs NY (got some real NONenthused family!)

No one should be wearing Yankee anything in this town!

And to make it all more whatever, we all just watched The Perfect Game, and I got mad at the damn Yankees in a movie for crying out loud! acccck

Hi James,

I believe New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said on the David Letterman Show something to the effect "NY will always kick your city's a@@" as part of a top 10 list.

Being fellow New Yorkers, we know that is a true statement. New York City and New York State are a@@ kickers.

No disrespect to the rest of the world, it's just that New Yorker's have an attitude, we kick A$$...

Looks like the M's are still alive, and coming back to NY to get slapped around some more by that NY attitude. I'm thinking our boys have been humiliated enough and may come back with a little NW attitude of there own. "Least I'm hoping...

Whatta game... whew! 5 in the 5th on channel 5...... that was corny, but true

Can we do this in NY

Could you imagine the Series being here, can you imagine downtown if it is here? YIKES! (but a good yikes!)

Long game! But 6-2 not bad, not bad at all!

ShellyHerr, I'll second that "YIKES!" I work about four blocks north of Safeco Field, so I'd have to work from home during any World Series games days -- not that I'd mind, of course, because I'd love to see the M's go all the way!

Yesterday hubby and I watched the game with the volume turned down so we wouldn't have to listen to Bob Costas rattle on and we turned on Dave Niehaus on the radio instead.

LOL I think a lot of people that work downtown are gonna stay home *if* the M's make it to the Series!

I know my partner will! He gets that choice to do programming from home anyway

I'm sure the retailers down there will love it, the hotels, GOD can you imagine the traffic?????

Oh I kept screaming at those commentators to SHUT UP during the game, and I hated it when they kept showing replays of games from a week ago! LOL!

Yeah, traffic was bad enough today anyway... my husband says he wants to move to the country an' raise chickens.

I wanna move to the country too!

Problem is, most of what used to be country round here are suburbs of Seattle.

I used to live in Maple Valley with horses etc, my kids were little. Now, you go there and there are subdivisions all over. New homes, new shopping centers.

Worst now, I live too close to Seattle, I love Seattle, I grew up here, but its getting too big!

Theres traffic on Sunday without any games or events going on.. I don't know how ya do it, I try to avoid downtown, unless I absolutely have to. Partner drives everyday to his office on 5th and Pine, and parks in one of the garages, theres another thing! the parking! thats outrageous!

I try to avoid downtown, too, and luckily I work at the very south edge of Pioneer Square so I don't actually have to go through downtown to get to work. I just take I-5 north to Spokane Street to First Ave, and drive past Safeco Field on my way to work. I'm really lucky that the company I work for provides parking.

I'm thinking Enumclaw! That would be "country" enough for me. How I'd pay the bills from Enumclaw I don't know.

A while back I heard that some of the early Seattle residents built vacation cabins in the woods to get away from the city. These wilderness retreats were way over in... West Seattle!

LOL, yeah West Seattle! And the first Capitol for WA was Capitol Hill, course thats why all those neat mansions are there, pretty nice up there, but way too close to the city for me (like I could afford it anyway! )

I think the first 'settlers' settled on Alki, but not sure.

Enumclaw is nice, I like it there.

We know some people who live over the pass and commute to Seattle to work! YIKES!

Saw before the edit-um -LOL! I think I heard of them guys!

Gee Rainybear, we should be commuting together! I work a block or two south of Safeco on First Avenue. Right next to that building they have gutted, where they put the sidewalk out into the street. My hubby and I did buy some property on the other side of the mountains, in Stevens County near Colville, with the intent to get out of Seattle soon. As much as I love my home town I can't bear the rush, rush anymore. Seems like I am always in someone's way on the roads and they're never too happy about it.

And ShellyHerr, I'm down here in the Kent Valley - the last litte bit of farmland left.
The only land left is between Gowe and South 277th by the dairy. Auburn has turned the whole valley into commercial up to the south side of 277th. It's closing in on us. Maple Valley is pretty crowded now too. Black Diamond to Enumclaw is getting that way as well.

We should have an AW get together to watch the M's slaughter NY!

I'll tell ya exactly where we had our little farmhouse.... cuz we don't own it anymore!
And haven't for 9? years or so.
(I wish we did!)

It was right on the border of Maple Valley, right near Tahoma H.S. on 180th S.E.

Now theres a huge brick tudor next to it, sits off the road, has an old small barn and a front pasture. We had 10 acres, that included the front and back.

The closet shopping, when we lived there, was in Covington, and all they had then was a Johnnys Supermarket. We got our feed for the animals at Foss's (if thats still there?)
I believe it was on 256th...

I haven't been out there in a long time, I know that Covington and all around its changed. I heard they put a Fred Meyers and a bunch other stuff there, I don't think its Johnnys anymore, I heard it was QFC?

I really miss how it used to be. I know its nice, a friend just bought her new house in Cherokee Bay (subdivision) in Maple Valley, and still haven't seen it yet. Guess when she moves in, I'll see how everythings changed out there.... dang I really miss it out there..

ktsclutter - hey, we're practically work neighbors! I live in Federal Way. It's nice down there but pretty suburban, and I like it better than Ballard, which is where I was living before. Living in a house vs. an apartment makes a world of difference, too.

Wouldn't an AW get-together to watch the M's win be fun? I've often thought something like that would be interesting because there seem to be a good number of people from this area who post here.

One of the announcers on TV really got my dander up today, talking about how the Mets could win the World Series, depending on how the Yankees perform! Yankees indeed, don't count out our Mariners!

wow, Mariners play tommorow.... a little nerve wracking...

Why should I be nervous? I am NOT playing in this game! but still, its like, its for Seattle, no, its like its for all of WA state!

RainyBear I didn't realize that many were from the PNW! or no, narrow that down! Western WA!

We drive by Federal Way on the way back from Olympia (we go there a lot) and from I-5, I see SKYSCRAPERS, well almost! freeinet and another one. Fed. Way sure is growing too!

Oh yeah, Federal Way has big plans to create a downtown centered at the intersection of 320th and Hwy 99, which I've heard is already the busiest intersection in the state. I'm not sure how this little city will handle the excess traffic since it's bad enough already, but they're tearing things up and are ready to install signage, a waterfall, and other nifty stuff at the corners of that intersection. More building construction to follow, I'm sure. Oh well, I guess skyscrapers would be better than strip malls.

Freeinternet isn't doing so well... they just laid off 1/3 of their work force a couple of weeks ago, then declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I don't think they're quite out of business yet, though.

I like the quiet, residential part of Federal Way to the west of the commercial area. There are lots of trees there (for now, at least) and not too much traffic except at peak times. But I still wanna move to the country!

PS - go M's!

Seatac Mall is right there on 320th and 99, yeah its busy. I never go to that mall, if I go to the mall its nice, but all the stores are spread out, like on both sides of 320th. I usually go to Southcenter if going to the mall, and that would be with my daughter.

Freeinet is laying off? wow, and they built that huge building for them. ouch! But I'm sure it will be occupied.

Yeah I know people that live in the residential areas, and they are nice. Fed. Way is becoming, IMO, kinda like Bellevue. Its clean, nice neighborhoods and stuff.

Dang I used to go to the Puerta Vallarta Restaraunt a lot in Twin Lakes, my best friend was the KARAOKE hostess! LOL!

Oh yeah its theeeee GAME TODAY!!
