This is the first I have heard of this new fee thing.

I will be sure to post it on the message boards I frequent, so others aren't caught as unaware as I.

What 14 day notice!!??

I don't use the manager program here, only the old service. I, too, refuse to pay the percentage. Since I only use the hosting, I'm not so sure I care to pay the nickel, either, but...

IN PROTEST: I'll be deleting 10% of my photos held here each day I come to the boards and this percentage crap is going on.

IN ADDITION: In protest, I will avoid purchasing ALL merchandise carrying the Auctionwatch logo after the 14th if the percentage isn't scrapped.

DON'T BUY MERCHANDISE CARRYING AUCTIONWATCH LOGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact, this thread has become very B-O-R-I-N-G and it's length is starting to slow down my access to the interesting stuff.

With all due respect Mark et al, I believe you now have enough feedback to know how your customers feel about this.

I respectfully suggest the ball is now in your court to start responding in a non-rhetorical manner to some of the questions that have been asked here.

If that is not possible, then I suggest that this thread is a done deal and should be banished from the AW forums

It is kinda boring now, except for the deleting of posts for various reasons. Now that raises the eyebrow

AW boycott hits newsgroups. Items carrying the AW logo will be boycotted. Yeah Right! Like buyers would care if you use AW or not.

FYI - I've read buyers on eBay boards complaining about some of the free sites loading times, including AW's.

Also, you CAN use large pics on your auctions, and use HTML to make a "click to enlarge" photo.

Here's the info you need.

Doing thumbnails are pretty easy, after you get the knack of HTML code. Let's say you have the URL of your image (simplified to 'X' for instructional-sake) and it's put into your auction ad template like so:

<img src=X>

Then to make a thumbnail, you then change the IMG tag with the constrained width or height that you desire. Most people worry about width, and constrain it at 200 pixels, like so:

<img src=X WIDTH=200>

So that'll make your image a thumbnail, but it's not clickable to the fullsize version. To do that, you surround the IMG tag with the A tag to link it to the same URL of your image, like so:

<a href=X><img src=X WIDTH=200></a>

You may also want to put instructions for your buyer to click on the image to get the enlarged version.

Using width and height tags on your <img tags will give you a visual thumbnail, but the full-sized image will be downloaded first and then each viewer's computer will have to resize it to thumbnail size.

If you are using this method to gain speed, best to just use the full-size picture.

Really? Even if just the "width" size is used?

Yes, reddeer...

The reduced size is only an illusion. You need to have both a big pic and a small one to do a true thumbnail to full-size image.

Here's what I used...it works...

A "thumbnail" is a little picture that gives people the general idea of what the full size picture will look
like. They're "clickable" pictures, and when you click on them, it takes you to a bigger picture.

Using a graphic for a link is just like using text for a link. It would look like this in your markup:

<a href="http://www.infoseek.go.com/"><img src="infoseek.gif"
alt="Infoseek"></a>

The A HREF is where you want the link to point to. Then, instead of text, you use an image inside the anchor. The ALT text is there for non-graphical browsers. People who have images turned on will see the image as a link. Text-only browsers and some people who have images disabled will see the ALT text instead.

To do a thumbnail, a little picture points to a bigger picture.

<a href="fido.gif"><img src="lilfido.gif" alt="My dog"></a>

If the big picture is very big (say, over 50K), warn people.

To do this, you need two versions of the graphic. One is full size, and you might already have it. The other one is the thumbnail, and you make it by editing the full size picture.

*No one has text only browsers anymore, so I skipped the "alt" stuff.

*** THIS WORKS FOR MY PICS ***

< a href="http://MY BIG PIC URL"><img src="http://MY SMALL PIC URL"></a >

Leave out the spaces, of course.

I hope you can figure this out...

I've now written a method to schedule a few auctions at a time from eBay's site. It works with a dialup connection or modem/DSL. I did the test this afternoon.

I'd pay a reasonable fee to avoid the trouble of doing the picture thumbnails correctly, but 1% FVF is too much. Especially if you consider a 50% sell through average. This means the auction that sells needs to pay the $0.05 fee for the one that didn't. It boils down to $0.10 + 1% FVF, if your average sell through is 50%.
I read AW is considering a picture hosting fee. I suggest you should consider hosting and scheduling. There are just too many sites that will host for free to not include scheduling.
I've never used the after auction features and don't plan to.

Hi everyone--

Because this thread has gotten very large and difficult to navigate through, I am locking it.

If you have feedback, please post it in the AW Services forums.
