This may be the lamest question ever! I've been wrapping items with the bubbles facing out, but I'm rethinking this - maybe there's slightly more cushioning with bubbles facing in? There probably isn't a right or wrong way, but what have you been doing?

That's odd. All my bubble wrap has bubbles on both sides.

After much scientific research, I always put the bubbles facing in - it's easier to tape the flat side!

Hi Annie55!

I always place the bubbles facing out, this will allow them to cushion the "force of impact".

OMG! I wake to find this thread! LOL!!! The great bubble debate again! I love it I love it I love it!

Thanks for putting a smile on my face today It brings back fond memories of the good ole AW.

Now for my contribution: I put the bubbles on the outside.

The only way to do it, bubbles on the inside.

lol

Yep, the bubbles HAVE to go on the inside!

Most objects have a natural affinity for the various nooks and crannies of the bubbles. And that is why you're wrapping it, right?

Plus, the tape is easier to put on the flat side (as mentioned previously).

I always put the bubbles on the inside. One layer of small bubble wrap, taped, then a layer of large bubble wrap. Very occasionally I put an extra layer of bubble wrap with the bubbles facing out inbetween, which combines the best of both worlds.

LOL... the great bubble debate. Ah, memories....

brought a smile to my face also, I love the great bubble debates, bubbles on outside, but I always wrap the item first with end roll paper that the newspaper gives out for the asking, then I take the big roll of clear tape and tape around it. (in case it may have to float.)

I have to place my vote for bubbles facing in too.....as said, it's easier to tape the flat side and I think when the bubbles are facing in, there is less tendancy for them to be punctured.

bubbles in. I was searching the web for purveyors of bubble wrap and the info said always wrap with the bubbles in.

Don't pop them either or else they won't work. <VBG> I loooovvvveee to pop the bubbles, but of course since I am paying for the bubble wrap, I don't do that.

I remember when this stuff was invented and came out on the market, a rep came to our Company and demostrated it. He threw a piece of fine Cystal from the second floor wrapped in this on a concrete floor. It did not break, and as I recall He didn't say which way the bubble wrap had to be,I would say it works either way.Great product.

To find the answer, annie55, take off all of your clothes and wrap yourself each way--bubbles in, and out. You'll have your answer by feel, but if you still aren't sure take a walk around the block wrapped first one wat then wrapped the other way.

there is probably a coraltion between toilet paper hanging and smooth or bubble side I suspect peaple who have paper roll from the top are more likley to put the bubble side in

Maybe I can apply for grant money to study the subject. 100k ought to get it started

Items being shipped to the Northern Hemisphere should be packed with bubbles in. If it's going to the Southern Hemisphere, bubbles out. If bidder pays in 5 days or less, tape with masking tape. 6 - 15 days, tape it with blue priority tape. 15 - 30 days, use plenty of clear tape. If they take longer than 30 days to pay, use newspaper and save the bubble wrap for the good customers.

If someone makes me mad or is just otherwise a pain in the ass I pack their box with the used bubblewrap and the mixed peanuts I get from other packages. Petty, I know, but makes me feel better.

LOL Sparkz, that's the best set of bubble wrap rules I've ever read. The longer it takes them to pay, the harder it will be for them to get the bubble wrap off the item. Good one!

mrspock - Once you've got the grant and the research is complete, please consider nomination for the Ig Noble Awards.

Previous winners have included the inventor of Under-Ease (protective underwear for flatulence), the optimal way to dunk a biscuit and my personal favorite "Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments."

I think bubblewrap research would be a shoo-in

"protective underwear for flatulence" Wouldn't that be bubblewrap?

There is really only two things that could be considered the Great Debate.

1. Which way to put the bubble wrap

2. How to hang the toilet paper.

It probably will never be solved but oh how much fun it is to debate.

Forget the bubble wrap and peanuts for the "slow payers".

Use paper that's been run through a shredder.

God I hate it when I get box packed with shredded paper! Before it's over, that crap is EVERYWHERE!

I don't usually use bubble wrap but had to put my 2 cents in

Toilet paper should be off the top of the roll, folded to a v. In the "old days" having the sheets of toilet paper coming from the bottom meant you were an unwelcome guest.

Finally, a use for all my useless trivia

Thanks for the smile ... I needed it!

"In the "old days" having the sheets of toilet paper coming from the bottom meant you were an unwelcome guest. "

did you really change the roll to feed from the bottom when you didn't care for the guest ?
