True Art Deco is a design type that started in the 1920's that features clean curved lines to create a streamlined effect. Like many things, I've seen deco put on many items that were not deco, but any of a thousand other styles. After looking at it again, I can see where it would be described as deco. I wouldn't, but I can see it.

Here's my favorite story: I went to a garage sale where they were selling children's books 3@$1.00. I came late and there weren't many left, but I did find one I liked, and brought it up front to buy. Since I wasn't buying three, the householder laughingly charged me a 2-cent "premium", which made my purchase 35 cents. I put it up on eBay and it sold for $127.50.

I know you're gonna ask, so ... the book was a 1942 1st edition of "Puff Ball," by Paul Brown, in remarkably good condition. I did some research and found that Brown's books were reprinted in the '50s, but the earlier version is so rare that not even the rare book sellers on the Internet had any!

I bought a $3 pair of drapes at a yard sale and sold them for $97. Bought a pair of Model T headlight lenses for $2 at a yard sale and sold them for $56. I bought 4 boxes of fabric samples from the 1970's for $12 and sold them for $176. I'm still looking for the really big one.

I almost forgot my husbands favorite sale I had. Earlier this summer, we had gone out flea marketing. Ended up on a road with several small ones. Well, I found a few things for ME, and he found a trumpet. He and the guy haggled as I kept saying No to buying it. Believe me, this looked ROUGH. Beat up, plating missing, and one of the things stuck down. Finally, a slight headache later, I said fine when they got to $8.
It sat in my area, being moved out of the way at times. I decided to clear out some of the bulkier items. Gave it 2 fast pictures to show how bad it was. (I was ready to tell my hubby the infamous, I TOLD YOU SO). Started it at $9 to break even, if nothing else. $200 later, I will have to listen to my hubby's I TOLD YOU So, for a VERY LONG LONG time *LOL*

Okay here I go.... My biggest one this year, was a book that I picked out of the FREE bin at the thrift store. Sold it for $83!! I was shocked, as I almost didn't take it, just an old paperback.

Had a few other items that went big, but nothing that really stands out in my mind like that one. As I did take off from listing on Ebay from May til Sept.

PS I love these kinds of threads
All that & a Bag of Chips Too!!

i helped a friend with a huge moving sale. she had 3 cloth panels that we priced at $5.00 each with no takers. we decided to put them on ebay and split the profit if they sold.

one went for $89.00, one for $81.00 and the last one for $76.00.

I love to trash pick, one day I was taking the kids to soccer pratice. I saw a pile out for the next days trash, I just had to stop. Lots of old stuff and what I though was the best of all an original Atari computer. They usually get $10-20 on those, money in the bank! putit away sold some of the other stuff for a few bucks. I broke out the atari box and found it full of books and photos DRATS!!!! One of the books was pretty cool, a yearbook kind of thing from the USS RANGER ship 1976 cruise. What the heck, put it up and watched it go up about $10 a day! From .99c the price I start most of my auctions for. $71 later and a delighted buyer later I sold a bunch of photos and other RANGER stuff to the underbidder who were BOTH on that cruise!!!! For $35!!!! $125.00 stop, not so bad after digging through TONS of JUNK!!!! EZ

Great topic...got two for ya. One is my best sale, the other my mothers.

Visited my friendly junk man and picked out a small box with about six items for $10. Made my $10 back plus another $15 on ebay for all items but one. It was a book printed in the early 1900's. It sold on ebay for $195! And the buyer was happy!! Double-best sale!

My mother's story. My parents are retired, on limited income, etc. I set my Mom up on ebay to sell so she could bring in some extra money. She sold a vase that she purchased back in the 1970's. I loved that vase. But she needed the money...so she posted it. And it sold for over $950! I was very happy for her.
