OK. Over the past year I posted about two items. People asked me how I faired.

1) This was a tri-chained metal votive candle holder looking thing that appeared to be painted over (ugly!) in order to diguise it's value. It was found in the trash of a deceased neighbor known to be a holocausst survivor without family.

I finally put it up on ebay described pretty much that way. I sold it to a guy who was completely thrilled. He told me that it was a silver-plated Russian "icon lamp." I'm sure I was robbed. I got maybe 100 bucks; fantastic feedback tho'--something like "Greatest Seller on eBay!

2) This was a box of what I thought were just old Americana B&W photos. But the further I dug, the more fascinated I became, especially after I found two diaries that I had a hunch belonged to a girl who would become an authoress. She did: Helen Diehl Olds. I have yet to go through all the photos because it is too intense and all-consuming. I want to know more and more and more. I wrote everybody in the world; archives; universities; geneaology forums. Only her old school in Ohio is interested but they told me they had no staff to archive and review the stuff which didn't cheer me. Hours and hours and hours and obsession. They now just sit in a drawer because I needed time out. She was the best friend of whoever wrte that book "The Sandcastle", which was named after Helen's house (Sutton?), which of course was one of the many details I now know. PUNCHLINE: SO this gal from the mfriend's website e-mails me a couple of weeks ago: She found a phone number for of her sons. (He's like in his 80's.) Where does he live? Oh about four blocks from me. We plan on getting together. Wish I had a tape recorder!

Anyway, y'all were of supreme help and importance when I was trying to figure out what the heck I had. SO I figured I oughta keep you up to date.

Love,

Cyn

Thanks for Sharing.

When you find something for free anything you get for it is well worth it. You can't think of what it might be worth because to you it might mean big dollars but to the buyers on ebay if the right one isn't there that week it could go for pennies. I have listed items one week where I have very few hits and no bids, put it on the next week and out the door it goes.

Your second story sounds very interesting. I love to go through things like that. Sometimes nothing ever happens to the items because no one but you are interested. Tell us what the brother has to say and maybe it would be worth your while to buy yourself a cheap recorder. When I go to estate sales I try and look for things like that but I never get much for them because I guess nobody else is interested.

Keep us posted
