Why is paypal allowed to freeze other member's accounts when it has nothing to do with them.
Here is a nightmare: My roomate has a paypal account and had a charge back because the buyer had her credit card stolen. The buyer made a mistake when she said this transaction was fraud. She told my roommate that the transaction was legite and that she received the item but paypal will not get the money back from her. Now, my paypal account has been frozen for over $1500 for a $79 charge back that she had. Paypal seems to think it is ok to freeze anyones account with the same mailing address. They even told me that if you share the same computer, they have the right. The staff are rude on the phone and cannot resolve issues. Even when speaking to a supervisor, they cannot fix the problem immediately. In the meantime, even if these paypal accounts were linked, what gives paypal the right to freeze more than $1500 for an $80 transaction. I too never had a problem with paypal, but once you have a charge back, look out. I cannot send anyone any money from my account or access any of MY money. I have heard about numerous class action lawsuits against paypal and paypal has lost. Why are they allowed to do these things and stay in business? According to the paypal user agreement Section V #3 paragraph 2, second sentence states, "IF THE DISPUTE COVERS ONLY A SPECIFIC TRANSACTION, WE WILL ONLY LIMIT ACCESS TO FUNDS RELATED TO THAT PARTICULAR TRANSACTION". So, it looks like paypal is in violation of their own user agreement but noone will listen.
What kind of company is paypal? Very shocking business practices.
Can anyone offer any advise to me who was/has been in a similar situation??

sorry to hear you paypal account has been restricted due to your room mate 's problems with her buyer.
in cyberspace,it is hard to verify if the same person has multiple email adrresses or multiple person share one email addr,same goes with personal computer.
did your rommmate's buyer ask her/his cc issuer to remove the chargeback??
since all these chargebacks involve paper shuffling,it could take days,if not weeks,for one party to receive the paperworks.
one piece of advice-do not share your email addr with your roommate,do not share your paypal account with anyone,do not let anyone use your pc to access paypal or ebay if you are using your pc and your paypal/ebay accounts to conduct your business.
same can be said with your digital camera,scanner and whatever you use in business .
if you are going to be away for a long time,remove your keyboad from your pc.

Listen to stopwhining. Good Advice. Do not share passwords, computers, do not let someone use the same email address you have and do not log onto any of your business from someone elses computer. Even if site are secure there are some pretty smart people out there that can get any information you have.
I am sure the reason they froze your account for the $80.00 charge because if the card had been stolen they are protecting you and them for someone else to charge with it.
I feel bad when something like this happens but this is the only way that YOU and PAYPAL will be protected. Imagine if PayPal let anyone use anybodys credit card. They cannot ask for identification because there isn't a face to face transaction. They depend on YOU and ME to be secure. Once we report a credit card lost or stolen everything is frozen. Good Luck

You too PayPal cheerleaders just don't get it do you. In case you didn't read (try it sometime, you might learn something) his account was frozen because SOMEONE ELSE HAD A PROBLEM, not him, fools. Similar to a bank freezing everyone account because one person had an overdraft.
My advice to johndkiely, call your state attorney general. PayPal has RELLY violated the law this time.
And you two cheerleading fools, I hope a relative of yours get a chargeback and they freeze YOUR account and collect interest. Then we'll see how much cheering you do then, I know I will.

she and her roommate have been sharing the same email addr??
how is one to know if there are just one not two persons behind that email addr??
why are two persons sharing one email addr in this age and time when one can get free email addr from yahoo and juno or pay 7.95 for unlimited internet access??
are they identical twins,the kind that are jointed at the wrist so they must tap together on the keyboard??
have we heard this before-room mate,roomate boy friend,roommate who did not pay rent and had a visitor once,roommate father in canada who is a business partner,roommates get together and sign up with other people 's credit card,canadian who registered with sister us bank account,log on from russia,indonesia,romania,belgian congo etc etc?/

Got it. They lived in the same place...Not the same account.
Not everything has to do with computers, there is real life which includes, washing a horse.
Turn off the computer for awhile, turn around and see something beside s the CRT screen...

okay,my apology,same mailing addr,not same email addr,which is worse.
