If you do buy, pay only 1¢ per book, just like everyone said, resale value is very low (in lots), .10¢ is common. Resell one by one and you could be eaten up by the listing fees, and time wasted because most won't sell individually.
Also, if you do buy, consider breaking the lots down by author, and you may be able to get more money per lot.

Books are tricky things to deal in. Would avoid fiction like the plague, but nonfiction can be a very good deal. Particularly technical and reference works. One on an offbeat dog breed I had never heard of went over $30. Antique reference ones are frequently saleable, if you list them with the corresponding category of antiques (a Fiestaware book under Fiestaware). With $3,000 you can go out and cherrypick just saleable books.
