toasted, I'm only semi-literate in html. I have written hundreds of html auctions but still have to refer to my html "cheat sheet" off and on.

I am working on setting up my first website on my own now. I tried a FrontPage template but I couldn't manipulate it in ways I wanted to. so, a steep learning curve. I already wrote all the html for my cat's webpage a few years ago, but my mind emptied out since then! LOL!

Patty,

I don't understand what you have to put in the "location" to get the flag there. If I use the A href it just creates their web address because I already did that in one of my auctions.

I did upload the flag image to my image manager but I have to insert it with my photos of what I am selling. So it is right next to the product I am selling or below depending on which layout I use.

I did go back to the site and copied the image and right clicked for properties and got the URL address. Is this what I would write in the "location" window?

Thanks!

Paws,

Oops! Way sorry. had a migraine this morning when I wrote that. Use the "IMG SRC" code as in:

<img src=http://tinyurl.com/28je>

Just change the part after the equals sign into the web location of your image, animation, icon, or thumbnail. If you use Sales Manager Pro, you can go to "Preferences", then "Item Location", and paste your code into the box for "City, State". Then you can put your zip as uaual in the zip code box. Then it will automatically appear on all your auctions.

Let me know if you need more help.
Sorry again for the wrong directions. It's me, not you!

Patty

Before you suggest using Works word processor you might want to consider there are some problems with " and a few other symbols.

They will show up as squares and blocks if copied to the auction service program I use.

And, in the time it takes to copy and paste I can make three more ads so I often have misspelled words where I just type too fast.

But, My time is money and maybe those of you who take all that time to type, spell check, copy and paste either have more time than I do or don't list very many auctions.

Edited to add:

Or maybe you don't sell one of a kind items. If I made an ad that I could use over and over I would take more care. Instead, I list several hundred unique items each week and when I start making ads I have to make them just as fast as I can.

I would say that given a choice, I would rather have a President the occasionally sounds like an uneducated yahoo than an earlier President that acted like an uneducated yahoo or maybe bubba is a better word

What surprises me is the spelling on music CDs. Then they make them where you can't read them anyway by using white letters against pale yellow or making the letters so small you need a microscope to read it.

Another annoying thing are sellers that use busy backgrounds in their auctions or black backgrounds with bright colored writing. My eyes go blurry before I can even finish reading the description. I once saw an auction that had a white background with pale turquoise writing. The writing just about blended into the background. The funny thing about that is I had found that auction on the same day I was wearing my bifocals for the first time. I thought there was something wrong with them. LOL!

I myself am a horrible speller, but hate to let it show. That is why I have my "Bad Spellers Dictionary" by my computer at all times. It is seller suicide to not spell correctly. But as a buyer, I love finding a great item that no one is aware of due to misspelling.

My favs are red type on black back grounds or vice versa - especially when selling male oriented items. Considering the number of color blind men and the fact that they see red as black you have just carefully created a big black box.

Thankfully my father was colorblind so color combinations have always been an importnt aspect of any of my designs. It has always surprised me that this is not something taught in art and design classes.

Never thought about the color blind issue. Thanks for bringing that one up. I know it's not funny (well, yes it is) but, I had a friend (roomate)who was color blind and we used to switch his shoes and socks around. He came to work one day with a blue sock and a brown sock. His shoes? One was brown and one was black, of course. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us, he had a sales call to make that day before work. I called the client that afternoon and explained what had happend. The client, it turns out, figured out what was going on during the meeting, had a laugh after the meeting and bought even more insurance. That was a close one.

There are many of us who care desperately about grammar, spelling, etc. We even edit our own messages here if we find a spelling mistake!

I don't think there's any solution to the problem of poor writing and speaking skills these days. When I listen to someone from England, he sounds truly educated - especially compared with our President - coherent, able to string sentences into paragraphs with nary a pause.

Something I learned in typing, 'way back when, was to put two spaces after a period (at end of sentence). And how to fold a letter properly to fit into the envelope. A lot of people who use computers never had a typing class and didn't have the chance to learn all of that.

I'll just go on the best I can, thankful that our grown kids are adept with the language, and hopeful that our grandchildren will learn it, too.

Some famous person said long ago, "I've resolved to allow my friends their peculiarities."

We probably all need to do that for each other here. We help each other so much that I do think we need to lay off the criticism.

Still bothers me, though, I must admit!

ewora, I know this is a bit late but that was very cute. Made my day.

I don't think the name of the school you went to, or the amount of your education, has as much impact on how well you write and spell as your own determination to get it right. A good education helps, but it doesn't define you. My grandmother, who was taken out of school at the age of 10 (old enough to pick cotton) was a prolific and eloquent letter-writer and champion Scrabble player who could spell words I'd never heard of.

Talking about bad grammar. In the auctions I've been listing the past 2 days I have a problem with "is" and "are".

I know "is" is singular and "are" is plural.
So if you are saying "a pair of panties" using is or are both sound wrong. A pair is singular but panties sounds plural. I entered sentences using each in Word and it said "is" is correct but it sounds like very bad english to me. After going over and over it for the past few days both sound wrong. It can drive ya nuts!

Guess some who read the description will just think I am using bad english either way I go. As long as I have bids though I don't care what anyone thinks.

Paws4God:

Regarding "is" and "are": pair of panties, pair is the subject and it is singular so you would use the singular verb.

Rather than using Word to cut and paste, create an auction template in FrontPage then copy and past the html. FrontPage has a spell checker. Although, it would be nice if Ebay and Vendio both came with spell checkers to save a step or two. I've been known to type faster than my brain can think and have come up with some great words here at work. LOL!
