Ok! So what did everyone find today?

Girlfriend came home with original 1961 and 1964 GM shop manuals for Chevys $12 each, older ashtrays from Ceasars for $1, and a set of Carrigaline plates, saucers and mugs in a pattern I can't find!

How did everyone else do?

Wish I could be jumping up and down but, the weather has been so rainy and crappy here the garage sales are few. There's always the flea market tomorrow and a couple of estate sales. Fingers are crossed.

I have an advantage, I live in the Northwest, and we have two seasons: The Rainy Season (October til May) and the Slightly Less Rainy Season (May til October) - They don't really affect garage sales here. Even in the downpour today, I picked up a few neat things. I found three different video game systems and games at really good prices (One from the 1970's too, which is always cool!) - I picked up something that I won't mention specifically because it would be easy to find it on ebay, the owner sold for $1 and said he thought about selling on ebay, but decided not to. Not sure why he didn't, but his $1 sale is my $30 gain. Can't wait to go out there tomorrow...

Today I picked a Wilson "Duke" Footbal worth $50 - $100...Paid $3

Color gameboy w/1 game...Paid $5

60's leather Motorcycle jacket ladies 38...Paid $5

The funy part about the Wilson Duke football is this: The guy having the garage sale had numerous overpriced antiques including a pair of wooden skis for $95!! He looked like an ebayer selling of stuff he didnt want to ship. A leather football ships quite easily, to bad he was so worried about his antiques and never bothered to check the value of a simple old football...

I just discovered that one of the video game systems I got is a rare type, very cool. I just saw the price they wanted (which was $15) and took it, did not even take that close of a look. With 12 games, it was a deal, not it is a super deal!

And a tiara for 25 cents. It's very good quality with prong set stones. Both pieces go in my collection.

Today was a decent day, no super pickups, just slowly added to my take by working it for about 5 hours. It was hailing here today, that probably discouraged a few people from setting up shop. Oh well, overall it was a good two days, now I just need to sell some of these things!

sarniaflower, that's a neat ashtray though she's way too nice for ashes and butts. Does it have a mark underneath?

toasted, your daughter looks pretty all dressed up. Don't you think my tiara would look good on her? I hope she has a fun time at her Prom.

good morning

toasted36 your daughter is beautiful all dressed up
if the weather is half decent today I am going to have a garden day and hang those cute fish I purchased on ebay *wink

kiara
there is a name on the bottom of the nude lady "scarlatella" w/copyright symbol "Mold" there is also a number/date? cannot make it out. The owner told me it had been left behind by the owners of a house that was being torn down so he was allowed to take it home where it sat in his basement for a number of years. I purchased the vase (belonged to his mother-in-law)at the same sale. I got the ashtray, vase and expresso maker for 21.00 .. I think I did alright

i smoke like a chimney too. I have a disclaimer in all my auctions (set up as signature in vendio)

"i smoke and buy for resale so will not guarantee against smoke smell. i cannot refund if this is the only problem you have with an item"

as for my ebay items, i try to remove them from my area as soon as they are listed, to the garage or shed, so that by the time they are packaged they have had time to air out. i have only had 2 complaints in over 800 auctions and i did offer a refund on one of those and she passed it up, said she had done the kitty litter thing and gotten rid of the oder. the other one he said I had mentioned it and he was prepared for it, not really a complaint i guess.

Got three nice little plates today for $3.00 total. One is an Imari saucer, one is Royal Copenhagen and the other - no clue. I thinks it's Japanese. There's a signature on the back, but I've no clue. Got tons of nice jewelry, too. Including a Rose Gold locket. Nothing to get rich on, but still nice.

ooOOoo CBlev65252 that top right one is Beautiful !! Is that a mermaid or just a lady sitting on a rock? Either way I like I like !
Thanks for your idea rarriffle of leaving the non smoke free house in my ad at all times...I don't sell clothes much but I guess anything you sell ...people need to know we smoke ...I really don't have anywhere to move them to in my house ,but do try to tie them up in a bag with one sheet of news paper or a snuggle sheet so they don't smell .That was my first neutral ever out of 383 feedbacks so I'm running about the same as you ..well almost made it to 400 ...lol short story.Had a lady I bought an outfit from e-mail me and said you could at least told me you weren't happy with the item I would have refunded your money...HUH?? I went and looked at her feedback ...the buyer right above me gave a Neg. for smoke smell...no warning...I e-mailed her back and said opps lol wrong buyer ...I loved my clothes ....she e-mailed me back oops lol so sorry ...I told her then I was next ...that was a almost a year ago.

I believe the top right one is the statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen (I think that's where it is).

Cheryl, let us know when you plan on putting those up. My girlfriend grew up in Hawaii and loves Asian things so I think she'd really like the other two in the photo.

You are right about the top right plate. It's a miniature from Royal Copenhagen entitled Langelinie, which I believe is a bay in Denmark.

I'll let you know about the other two plates. I want to take the one on the bottom right to my brother to see if he can read the signature. It's very flowing and therefore hard for me to discern. Sometimes I can read them (although mostly Chinese because it's easier). I have some very, very old Chinese items up now. Two sake cups and a bowl belived to be about 17th century or earlier. Also a couple of Chinese or Japanese jade items. She can check out my gallery, if she wants. I collect orientalia, but need to thin the collection a bit. My home is overrun.

Edited to add: About the smoking thing, some items I buy from other people and don't know whether they smoked or not. Sadly, my son smokes like a demon and I can't smell cigarette smoke as good as though who aren't around it. Good idea to put the smoking thing in the description, though for those who may have allergies. I sold a lot of jewelry once and the buyer commented about the smoke smell. I was a bit taken aback because the jewelry was kept in a locked case. Then it occured to me that I had bought it from many, many different people. Gladly she wasn't angry and understood that I had no idea. I'll have to add that even though I try to clean things before selling them.

Went to an Estate sale yesterday. Got a Mikasa settings for six. Paid $40.00 for it, Replacements Ltd. will pay me $249.00, so I will net over $150.00 after shipping. Not too bad for a 15 minute shop.

Went to the auction today.

Right at the end I bought a box lot that had in it a pair of Hazel Atlas Florentine cups and saucers, a very old sterling carving knife and fork which unfortunately aren't the same pattern and some silver plate nonsense sugar & creamer which will go to Mission Thrift as soon as I clean it up.

Of course I also bought a cedar chest and a Singer Featherweight sewing machine. My son bought another cedar chest and a bedroom set and my mom bought a chair.

So now it's off to rent a U-Haul tomorrow!

What fun!

Lucy
