Cheryl, you read Chinese?? I've got a Chinese embroidery, probably early 1900s, with an inscription and signature in Chinese. If I sent a pic, do you think you could give it a whirl? I would love to know what the inscription says--well, I'd love to know more about the embroidery itself. My mom bought it in Singapore amongst a lot of mass-produced textile junque for just a couple of dollars. She also brought back a couple of Chinese snuff jars, a set of soapstone horses, a mass of cloisonne necklaces, a number of sculptured sawdust joss sticks, and a lovely little tiger eye horse.

I've only gotten as far as reading some of the marks on porcelain and the like. There are some great learning sites on the web. Try these:
The first one has helped me a lot. Also, books in the library help.
Check out this guys web site. You may be able to email him a picture of your piece. I have an ancient Chinese Jade plaque that was a total mystery to me. He was able to decipher the first two words.
I'd like to help, but I also don't want to make a mistake and tell you wrong. You can send me a photo and I'll see what I can do. My brother's partner is an orientalist and if I can't figure it out, maybe he can. I also have some books. [email protected].

I went to an auction on Saturday. The weather was bad (rainy) and not alot of people so a lot of items went for garage sale prices. In box lots I got 66 saleable(I think) items for $70 - one of them is a lefton figurines that's already up to $43 on Ebay and I also got a Hedi Schoop figurine in that lot. I am one happy camper.
