I just sitting here waiting to go yard saling. Anyone else?

Seems like in these here parts, yard sales aren't as plentiful this year. Is it the economy? Or is everyone selling on eBay nowadays.

Is anyone else experiencing a decline in yard sales from years past?

Here it's the rain. It has rained for more weekends than I can count. Since March I've been able to go out to sales exactly four times. And one of them was because folks started doing rain or shine. Same thing today. It's raining again. And there are only two listed as rain or shine.

It's been the rain here, too. It has rained all but 5 days this month. Seems every garage sale Thursday is rained out. We should have a dry weekend so I'm going to Amherst to the big flea market (and then to the Summer Solstice Celebration). We were told on Monday it would be close to 80 today, but that has changed to more like 70. The weathermen would be better off saying, "No weather this weekend."

i still go saling, even if it's raining, many still have the sale...i have gotten some of my best deals looking under a tarp or in an over crowded garage due to the weather.

gorgeous weather here in central Ohio yesterday and i had to go out of town for a meeting. on the way back i drove through 2 little towns having community sales and filled the trunk with goodies.

today i can just stay home and type up auctions because i am pooped.

Didn't buy much but learned how to make cigar box purses. Worth the trip....Come back and post I love to read garage sale finds....

Libra

Granddaughter stayed over here last night, too. Fortunately, she's out of the Barney stage. Now it's Powerpuff Girls. Funny thing. I thought I'd be over knowing the kid show theme songs by now.

I'm off - Jamie's awaits!

I can not imagine rain from early June to early September. It never, ever happens in the SF Bay Area in that time period.

well, you guys talked me into it.

community sales here in an old neighborhood and one lady had put all the boxes from her basement in the front yard and anything in the boxes was 25 cents! i found four annuals from my local high school there, including the year i graduated, $1.00 for all.

bought some other stuff too but that was the best find.

Libra ... gonna share your cigar box purses knowledge with us? Sounds cool. I have also seen purses made with magazine covers. Would also like to know how to make those.

got up at 6AM and went out and about hit about 3 sales , hit about 10 sales last night- not too much to write home about. It seamed like "pure rummage" today. I can't figure out why people even bother trying to sell #mart or #almart clothes that have holes, visable stains and smell musty and try and get the price of new out of them. I tried to negotiate on one item for my kids I was interested in and the lady said to me "I can sell that on Ebay for 3 times that amount"- I said, "you sure can't right now and if you could sell it for that on Ebay for $30- you wouldn't have it on your sale right now for $10" I believe when you have a yard sale you have to have room to negotiate prices.

JinkiesVelma ~ Sure I will share the instructions. But it will have to wait until later as I have to take our granddaughter to her Aunts house. They are really easy to make but you have to buy the more expensive boxes. $5.00 a piece in my area. I'll be back. Good day at a flea market also. See ya later

I'm in NW Arkansas and it was beautiful here this weekend. (Don't throw rainballs at me!)

Had the kids spend the night at their cousins. I got up and out by 7:00 and probably hit 20-30 sales. Found things to put away for birthdays and Christmas.

I have to believe if I had a computer I could run from the car and access Ebay, it would pay for itself in a matter of months! Saw some vintage items, but they had higher prices on them, so I figured some had done research on prices. No way to check, and get back...I was an hour from home.

Got some doll magazines that should sell as lots. Some classic radio cassettes...not a lot of demand, but should make more than I paid. A NIP Bucilla needlework kit. Found a source for new Goody big barrettes. Only paid 2/25c! Am going to try to sell them 2/$1. I'll be keeping some. LOTS of little things. No big treasures.

I have an item to post for identification. I have my photos in a folder on my desktop. Is there a way to access one to use in a post?

You know that they make laptop modems that can connect to your cell phone now right? Any day now I expect to see someone release a laptop capable of internal cellular connections.

Lucky finds today!

Got two children's books, a 1934 hardcover about fairies, only one copy listed on ABE for $350.00, and an amazing 1961 Dutch pop-up book, only equivalent I could see on ABE was listed over $400.00! Books cost me $1.00 each, so I guess there is a bit of room for profit!

Wow! Congrats to those of you who found treasures this weekend!

It did rain here last weekend, too. I didn't bother. I should have not have bothered today, either.

It was slim pickins today. I had dollar signs in my eyes when I bought a box of 40 Sega Saturn games for $10 and 7 old rubber duck hunting decoys for $40. But the games are barely selling for a couple dollars each on ebay and I'll be lucky to get my investment back on the ducks. DOH!!

But I cleaned up last week and so I can't complain.

It has been raining buckets here in eastern PA!!! Thought flooding creeks and streams were going to keep us from the weekly auction run - but NO!

We collected several boxes of stuff -- 20 lots in all - and will post some of the unique things here to discuss.

In a nutshell, got some nice Depression glass, German porcelain, etched and painted glassware, carnival pieces, etc. Nothing real remarkable, but some great deals.

You guys that hit dozens of yard sales at a clip impress the heck out of me. I get in and out of the car 5-6 times and I'm ready to pack it in. I actually took my wife on a day of yard saling as a conditioning for sitting at an auction. After a few hours, she certainly doesn't mind going to one place, plunking down in a folding chair (albeit a bit hard to take for several hours) - good food from a ladies church group - and a nearby real restroom. Then you combine that with a few really nice bargains -- what else could you ask for?

Once I catch up, I'll get back with some of the more interesting items.

Can someone help me with the wording of this auction?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2638957328&category=4231

What does the HP in the title stand for?

I found a vase today with this marking. It is smaller that these 5 inches. It has almost the same pattern as these, of course only smaller and the same coloration.

Did really well for only going to 3 sales. Well one one a small flea market run by a church.

Thanking you all in advance....

Hi Libra,

Probably (or prolly...) means handpainted.

I hope this helps.

BTW everyone, I'm getting on the Amtrak Sunset Limited tomorrow afternoon with ny son, heading to Florida to pick up the three grand-kids. They'll be here for FIVE WEEKS! Then I get to get back on the train to return them to Pensacola. Ahh.... what fun!

So, I might not be here very often, unless I get crazy and tell them all I'm going to my eBay Cave and they darn well better just leave me be or they won't get any dinner! Ha ha!

Have a great trip lucy. There is nothing like traveling by train. Lived in a railroad town and traveled alot. You get to see a lot of neet scenery. See you when you get back.

Thanks all. I never even thought that HP could by hand painted but now when I look at the painting I can see it is. No I am not blonde...

Went to Jamie's Flea Market. Wow, it's huge. I could only spend an hour there so I only got about 1/4 way through. Got a great deal on some old jewelry. A large lusterware swan figurine signed Japan in fantastic condition for $2. Also got a silver metal chain turtle belt for $3. I already have a lion one so I thought I'd start a belt zoo. :} I'm back out today to the local flea market. I'm giving it one more shot. The merchandise just keeps getting newer and newer.

The Summer Solstice Celebration was worth cutting the flea market trip short! What fun. I actually learned to meditate with a Buddhist monk. Great way to relieve those ebay and flea market tensions!
