I went to one of the same auctioneers auctions last fall. The field was FULL of junk...like you said hotcupo, old rusty machine parts, huge lengths of rope, etc. There was a group of old bushel baskets, also full of junk. But in one of the baskets was a feedcloth sack which held the most beautiful old hand painted wooden Arts and Crafts lamp. It was painted a soft green, with stylized water lilies all around the base and neck. I eyed the crowd for any competitors....then I saw another lady go over and pick it up. I went over and stood next to her and asked her what she saw of interest. She said she was going to bid on the lamp. We waited and waited, finally they got to the lamp, I was READY! I was going to GET that lamp no matter what it cost me! The bidding started, between me and someone else ( not her)....it was over before I knew it! I got the lamp for $8.00. She did'nt even bid! I asked her why she did'nt bid after waiting all that time...She said "I could get a lamp at Walmart for less than that"
That was the same auction where I picked up a complete 20 volume set of Victor Hugos works...for $1.00! Sitting in a box in the middle of the field, now where do you think they came from?
