I actually purchased a laptop. Thanks for all the advice and help. I am still a little sorry I didn't wind up with a new desktop as I run over to this one when I want to do any real work. I'm sure I will adapt to the laptop eventually.
Knowing I would be using it extensively I went with a Toshiba which as 30 gig hard drive, 2.0 gz, 512 MB ram and XP Pro.
It is nice, but I don't know if I will ever get used to working with it. I already added an external mouse. That little pad is for the birds! Still considering the keyboard. If I had one of them I would probably use it more, but with all these wires hanging out of it (Modem, printer, mouse, scanner) I feel like I might as well have bought the full size

My last purchase was a laptop and I'll never purchase another desktop. I love the smaller size that it takes up on my desk and the portability.
I agree that the touch pad is a pain (I purchased a Toshiba too), so I keep a trackball USB mouse handy, and the smaller keyboard is harder to use, but it is well worth the portability and little space it takes up.
It is great to take it outside and work when the weather is nice. It is also a wonderful little entertainment center while traveling- you can watch DVD movies and play games. I also like to downlaod all my news and then go read it wherever want. You're not chained to a desk with the laptop.
My next purchase will be a wireless internet system so I can have access to the internet wherever I plop down with my laptop.
