Had an auction end today. Just recieved an e-mail stating:

"I'm very sorry for the confusion, but my 8 year old son was not authorized to
make any bids any anything. We will not be purchasing this. Again I'm sorry
for the confusion..."

Ok, do I have to wait the 7 days to file for this? And should I reply back to this person?

Sure, you have to wait to file, but don't hesitate to send email.

"Dear madam,

"I too am sorry.

"I am sorry to hear that this eBay account actually belongs to an 8-year-old. There is a minimum age of 18 years on eBay. I am duty-bound to report this rule infraction to eBay's SafeHarbor Investigations and I am very much afraid that they will suspend your account immediately as that is the standard practice in such situations.

"However, I could be persuaded to overlook this violation if I receive a PayPal payment in the full amount of <item price plus shipping> by <name a date 24 hours from now>."

Guess I was wrong!
I did a search and it appears you'll need to wait the 7 days.

At the time I didn't think I was joking!

I love the response you posted, Fluffy. That's absolutely the way to go!

Plan a well-thought-out Negative feedback response as well:

"8yr old uses this account. Parents not responsible."

I'd love to have this as my very first negative. I'd wear it as a badge of honor: We don't let 8-yr-olds purchase from us, either.

How come they are ALWAYS 8 years old? OR is this the same one I got? Daddy got up to use the rest room and the little 8 year old knew all the steps to bid. awwww,,,,

Now yours was NOT authorized, does an 8 year old even know what authorized means? Anyway,,then what the hell was your case doing with the password?????? they have a password,,,,,their authorized.

And the confusion part, what confusion???? you bid , you pay! Mine said the exact same words,,,,,Sorry for the confusion.

Don't worry, filing the NPB will serve as notice enough to e bay,,,,,,I know this fact,,,they HATE to pay out,,,,,that's why they have a 3 strikes rule......3 x NPB,,,,,,,mind you from THREE different sellers and poof,,,,,history! They care less if YOU were stiffed 15 times,,,,means nothing to them,,,THREE different sellers,,,do your duty,,BE ONE of the three......DO NOT! NEG. NEGGING MEANS NOTHING!!!! Feed back is a farce. E bay basically says it's there for amusement. hold no value. Kind of like a fortune teller,,,,fun and amusement. Dead beats are VERY amused Negging YOU Back.

NPB process ,they just slim away,,,,,,,,

Boy do I know about NPB's,,,,,,they READ NOTHING,,bid and cry......screw e'm. I am NOT in the business of teaching reading.....I now state,,,,your bid is an acceptance that you READ the terms of the auction,,,,,in reality,,,,they bid on nothing, they simply agreed that they READ the terms.

I have collected from a few,,,I sent them NOTHING and they paid in FULL.

This is NO fun and games, this is Business...I WON!!! hahahaha, You paid more than the last guy was willing to pay. there is no WIN on e bay.......who pays the highest gets the goods.

A Real auction would be like that one fella wrote here ,,,,,one day to LOOK only and the next day,,start slamming those keys,,,,,,from say,,,,6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. NOW!!!!! there is some PRESSURE!!!!!! otherwise,,,,this is just a buying program.

I have adjusted MY auctions to that exact level.

I don't believe for a minute an 8 year old would have his mothers password & then place a bid on eBay. Was the item something a kid would want? If it was I bet Mom found it cheaper somewhere else. Did you check bid history?

Send fluffys email.

Hi Jack, I was referring to the original poster's So can/should I inform ebay of this one? question with my reply.

I like your advice of just NPB'ing the seller with the horsepoop excuse better than wasting time writting to ebay about possible illegal ebay users bidding. We got to get the crappy bidders out of here with three strikes in an 18 month period. Let the negs fall where they may.

In this case it was an 8 year old kid. In one of mine it was an 18 year old at college who the mother could not contact. In some cases it's a death in the family. Sometimes they use excuses like fire, flood, famine, pestilance, etc. Bottom line, they're all deadbeats that cost you, me and all of us money in the end. Do the right thing, file that NPB NOW!! Yours may be the first strike, or it may be the third. Forget the nasty exchanges and venting in the feedback forum. Do your part to get this deadbeat off Ebay by filing that npb.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I wish every seller would go that NPB route. I think some will not for fear of neg feedbacks and that saves ebay NPB refunds. Some fear ruining a perfect or near-perfect feedback rating. Why not automatically give every ebay user one negative feedback for every 50 feedbacks issued so there will be no perfect feedback ratings? A user can't hit 1,000 without at least 20 negatives. The sellers will be more willing to risk a few more negs for filing NPBs. Sounds a tad crazy but it does have some merit.

Yes file for NPB, but do not do what Fluffy suggested... all that does is make it look like extortion...

Jack is right in this case... file move on and leave appropriate feedback when NPB process becomes complete.

I agree with JACK except for the feedback part. Don't bother wasting time going through the ebay hoops to tell them about the 8 year old. Put it in a negative feedback. But only after you give proper time for a possible payment to come just like any other transaction. The reason for the neg is to warn other sellers of this person. There are many sellers that don't even bother with FVF refunds which is what ebay uses to judge deadbeats. If you neg, then the sellers can look at that and do the process accordingly. Don't worry about the stupid retailitory neg, you can respond to say as much and the timing of the feedbacks any buyer can see will prove it. I for one will give the benefit of the doubt to a bidder with no negs. However, if they do have negs, then the leash is very short and will not extend any payment periods for payment to arrive. If more sellers would neg these deadbeats when they should be, they would be getting booted off of ebay much sooner. Yes they sometimes come back with a new id. But it is still a pain in the rear for them to have to get a new e-mail addy then a new ebay id. And as a newby, not many sellers will give them much slack when it comes to getting paid.

So, don't contact ebay. File NPB and FVF if payment does not arrive and NEG the bastard.

You would not believe how many people [local acquaintances] are shocked when i tell them that ebay sellers have to pay money to ebay on ALL listings, whether they get a bid or NOT. ... and i can never believe that they're shocked at this! .... but, i am thinking that is why a lot of newbies approach the 'sorry my kid bid' or 'sorry i don't wanna buy this' so stupidly.

Also, I have a QUESTION for y'all ... this regards when there is the situation where you know off the bat it will be a non-payer [mutual agreement or not] ... yes i know we have to wait 7 days to file the npb/fvf thingy, BUT, in most cases, i feel inclined to do the relist right away, knowing i'll process the npb/fvf in 7 days ... my question is, if i relist right away, is ebay going to refund my listing fee when it 'sells' 2nd time around? [like they do with normal relists]? I've wondered about this for a long time.

I've wondered about it too. Up to a year ago I never ever filed for an NPB because the deadbeat ratio was so small and the process was so long and time consuming. I just gave the buyer a couple of weeks to pay then relisted the item. I think ebay has no way of know that it was a NPB if the seller doesn't jump through the many NPB hoops so the seller gets a free relist if it sells within 30 days.
With an NPB filed I not sure what ebay does as I never scrutinize my ebay invoice.
