JAck - perhaps in the future you should state that you would prefer that this item be picked up by the buyer and welcome any and all local bidders however if the bidder is out of the area wyou will be happy to ship it to them for a flat fee of $500 over high bid.

The 500.00 shipping fee would really work Jack no joke ! If the local pick up doesn't stop them the 500.00 fixed shipping fee will ! make sure you have that in the shipping cost section .Shipping and payment details ....put LOCAL PICK UP ONLY OR YOU WILL PAY THE 500.00 fixed shipping fee.Instead of a 100 times a year it should be cut down to like 5....those 5 will still have the brain cells of a flea and say I didn't really think the shipping was 500.00.Just a thought but if it saves you from having this happen ..boy is it worth it !

Why not send him a bill for the total due, including shipping? If he refuses to pay, turn it over to the Mad collection agency. You may not get anything, but you can play hell with his credit rating.

You have my sympathy JACK. Just a month agor I sold a beautiful Haviland plate which was at least 100 yrs; old. In my TOS in big red letters "I do not take checks" what do you know I got a check, I relemted & deposited it, waited 15 days & shipped it. The next day it came back. Well, my sis lives in Seattle where it came from, her husband is an attorney. When I emailed her & told her to pay by 8-4-03, I got paid in cash with an extra $10.00!!! People just don't read your TOS past the first line.

Now that I really think about it,,,,,,E bay should step up to bat and incorporate that into their speel,,,,,Your bid is an acceptance that you actually READ the descriptions and agree to ALL the sellers terms. You Bid, You own it! Screw that, binding contract crap! We ALL know that's a pile,,,,,,YOU read it, or you did not,,,,,YOU,,,,,,,OWN IT!!!!!!!! forget all that high and mighty LEGAL talk,,,,,,they need to talk on the average buyer level..

WE WANT THOSE DAMNED ZIP CODES IN THE AUCTION

NO "WE" DON'T, THEY ARE WORTHLESS IN THERE AND DO NOTHING... UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY A VERY MUCH HIGHER INSERTION FEE FOR ALL THE LABOR TO KEEP THOSE PRECIOUS ZIP CODES UP TO DATE, THEN IT WILL STILL DO YOU NO GOOD.

EBAY HAS A PREBUYER SOLUTION THAT SHOULD WORK IN THESE SITUATIONS... EBAY HAS A TOOL IN PLACE THAT SHOULD BE USED.

What ebay should do is charge the buyer a fee for being a NPB !!!!! Should stop some from doing and being a sh*t head, and wasting the sellers time.
I have on average 30-40 NPB's a month.Some pay, but most do NOT. !!!!

I would also like to see the zipcodes while the auction is running, not only for buyers but for sellers also.
Drives me nuts, that so many do not have a shipping amount in the ad.Some are to lazy to put it in,when they can.You send them an email and never hear back with a shipping quote, also if you find an auction near to closing, what are you to do , I for one will not bid until I have a ball park amt.No shipping listed, no sale.
Sorry maybe I need to start another thread, Didn't mean to get off topic.

The best to you Jack.
Hope you know that you do have a few friends here and are willing to give helpful advice.

We've run many thousands of auctions and i gotta say that 99% of the time, the zip code listed [at end of auction] is either their real zip code, OR they have a zip code close to the one given ebay because they might have moved across town ... i've NEVER ONCE come across yet someone who's moved to a different state [so that ratio number is going to be small, of folks who move from Maine to Nevada and forget to tell ebay] ... I agree how much simpler 'planning' can go for the sellers if they can view the zip codes while the auction is ongoing ... it would still protect identities of bidders if only the seller were able to view this ...

eBay if you do read these boards...

Charge for zip codes to be turned on.... make some money, make this a Feature.

This is worth at least $2-3 per listing.

That is the answer, let them PAY for it.

hey, that feature was 'turned on' before ... didn't cost an extra cent. it's right in their current member ID database!

but might be worth a small fee if the seller only wants it 'turned on' for things such as freight sized items. [and OF COURSE recoup the fee within the 'handling' charge,VOILA~!]

edited to add: ... would want to 'turn on' that fee for freight sized items only, and usually those items are pricey anyway, so would be easy to charge the buyer a sizeable handling fee to have them cover the cost of showing their zip code ... heck yah i'd front the $3 bucks for that

But it really would be great [and would make so much sense!!] if ebay would finally block International bidders from placing bids, if our set up terms are U.S. only ....... or if our terms are U.S., Canada, and Borneo, it should automatically block any bidders from any other country.

I agree with 12Pole ... That's gotta be the reason for no more zip codes for buyers at ebay ... too difficult and expensive to keep them up to date. As sellers we just have to learn to live with it. You can whine all you want but ebay isn't going to change their policy.

O.k. New Day! Yea! Now, when the zip codes first came out, every bidders zip code was right there in plain siight in the bid history section. As the auction was in progress. It was working fine. It solved the problems. Then, they changed it to only be on the high bidder/winners auction page. AFTER the auction is over. A zip code WILL not place ANYONE at your front door.

Put it back in the bid history section. Please. Thank you. Power seller. Jack.

Why am I a power seller? Because I sell these too big to ship things and they sell for very GOOD high dollar amounts. I could easily sell say 10 things a month and maintain a ps, level.

Make it easy for others selling the same types of BIG items. Better to kill them before it's too late. e bay, YOU lose money on these NPB's $250.00, $300.00, 150, 185 is nothing to sneeze at.

Jack - you can scream and yell and hit your cap lock key all you want but I don't think it's going to change ebays mind. You were given two good ways to deal with the situations within the existing limitations and ignored them both while being quite frankly an absolute ass to people that for no reason other than kindness were trying to help you solve the problem in a realistic manner. Even if an ebay employee was reading this boards, you came across as a full blown nutcase in this thread. Why do you think someone dealing with policies in a billion dollar corporation would even pay attention considering the approach that you took?

For buyers who make "mistakes" bidding on my auctions, I charge them a 10-15% fee to excuse their bid.

In reality, now how would you apply pressure to collect the $37.50? What are the conciquenses if they don't pay?

I Really Do like this solution!

There is nothing that you can do. You going to hire a collection agency? You have to gaurantee them a number of accounts to collect on and then they get most of those that do pay anyway. Rather than trying to penalize the offenders why not try the approach that has been recomended to you every time you bring up this complaint. Pre Approved Bidders list.

Some sellers write way too much in their description. Some descriptions are like reading a book. I would love to read your description about this auction would you put up its item number.
