I am being inundated with emails from various emaill addresses that I don't recognize. All have viruses attached. They have headings such as: Approved, That movie, Your Application, and Your Details. I received about 30 of these in the past hour alone. I'm also receiving Mailer-Daemon emails from email addresses that are saying I am sending these attached emails to other people. (Which I'm not). I've gotten these types of emails before which appear to be Klez virus related, but never 30 of them in an hour from 30 different email addresses. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this inundation, to have so many all at once?? Every time I check my email, there's a bunch more of these that I have to delete. Any Idea how I can stop it?

Check the other thread I just posted - this is a new virus spreading that is set to make a timed September 10 attack.

Unless you sign up for one of the Spam stopping services that a number of posters here a couple days stated they would not cooperate with, there is no way to stop it.

I just received an email from xxx@postmaster saying that I sent a virus to an email address where the subject was "approved". I searched on the email address and I didn't send anything to them, so I replied to the postmaser and just told them to check the headers - wasn't sent by me. (I did a virus scan on the computer just to make sure).

in the thread titled "This is ODD", someone mentioned a program called Mailblocks ... don't know if that's what you're looking for or not. .... i can't go blocking people's emails because i sell full time on internet ... but i do keep my mcafee virus scanner and firewall current at all times, so i think i'm gonna be ok

I have also gotten about 30 of these in the last hour... same titles as yours. I keep getting 3 or 4 at a time. Very irritating!

I have also gotten a few of the ones saying "undeliverable".

ihula - you may need to do a check on your system - one of the things the virus does is attach itself to your address book and send out emails to everyone in it.

Just got almost that exact same email... except mine was going to a netscape.net email address. I didn't send out anything, and I don't even have an address book... so I couldn't have unknowingly sent out anything through that.

-- and as I was typing my reply here, I just received another, this one was also an aol email address.

These viruses are spread so rapidly because they do not require individuals to send each copy out. Once the virus launches on a system it co-ops your address book into its evil plan and sends copies of itself out to everyone in your mailbox. If it is spreading this quickly this early in the game - September 10th is going to be hellish on PC users.

As I shared on another of these topics - stop allowing attachments into your e-mail.

We have been on line since 1991 – and it didn’t take long to learn that opening attachments is the worst thing one can do.

We have our e-mail Outlook Express, to automatically send all e-mails with attachments to the delete file.

If some wants to show us a picture, they can just as easily imbed it in their standard e-mail – I’ve never found attachments necessary.

We have been active on eBay since 1996, and have 4 separate commercial web sites, and we have never had a business problem occur because we don't open/accept attachments.

Set your computer to delete all such, and it will...........PLUS our Norton Anti-Virus stops all other questionable mail.

May sound rather hard nosed, but it prevents problems.

Don't get me going on this subject! I was the one that weighed in on the other thread about Mailblocks.com. I was getting at least 10 KLEZ a day plus the twenty or thirty usual- enlarge everything form your brain to your penis. Opps, can I say that?

Anyway I signed up with Mailblocks out of despiration. You can reroute your ISP email through Mailblocks and it will check it and treat it just like the mail coming into Mailblocks. You also have another email that you get when you sign up, I. E. [email protected] You can also tie the whole thing in to Outlook but I haven't taken the time to do that as I am not going to use Outlook at this time. It is sad when "they" win. I have ultamately done away with the original email address that I have had since blasting into cyberspace in 1997. It was very hard to give it up but too many spamers had it. It is now so quiet in my email room I can hear bianary switches.

One of the things I hate about these viruses is the time they consume. Yes my Norton is great but with dial-up and an attack of eight to ten KLEZ, I am messing about for twenty minutes before I can be productive. All this virus stuff and especially the new worm, is bound to discourage the casual shopper that is going to give up and go to Walmart.

Have you ever wondered if the Spamblocker folks and the anti-virus folks might be creating some of these viruses? Just a little paranoia creeping in.

Regards,
Don

I've got about 20 so far today. Both with the attachment and the so called bounced email. Norton wasn't detecting a virus but I deleted them all anyway. I then ran Live-update and now Norton is catching them. It seems to be a W32.sobiq.F@mm virus, whatever that is? It pays to keep updating regularly.

Those emails don't even get into my mail box thankgoodness. My ISP detects them before they get to me and then they send me an email that says:
"The CoreComm Defender virus filter has detected a virus
and prevented you from becoming infected by destroying
the infected email message"
They always tell me the subject and who sent it. This is very convenient.

Sorry to sound dumb, But could you please explain how you set up your "outlook express" to send the emails with attachments to the delete file ????

I would like to set mine up to do that.

Thanks for your help.

I'm getting them too. I have Norton's FW and AntiVirus so I'm sure I'm clean . But this stuff is filling my inbox. Tonight it seems like every few minutes there's a new "bounced" e-mail returned from someone I don't know and didn't send it to.

wrights - I have my OE set to not accept attachments - that's the best I have found to do - maybe JW will enlighten us both

This is how I have mine set...

In OE, click on "options", then "security" - under the first section entitled "Virus Protection", click the second box that reads: "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" - I have this checked and I never get attachments - they are automatically removed...

Hope this helps some

I just had a bug32 worm (or something) like that from someone that I don't know. Thank goodness for Norton Anti-Virus! Immediately quarantined the email & popped up a message! Of course that email is now deleted! I used Live Update this morning & have been updating about twice a week!

Anyone hear of a "Natchi" worm? It hit several pcs at my real jobs office today. We all received notice about it. First I've heard of that one. Watch out for it!

Stuff is really going around.

Am I right? The bottom line to all this is,,,,,,DO NOT open any and ALL attatchments? I have gotten much of this crap ALL day BUT I have NEVER opened any attatchments. Everthing seems fine,,lots of deleting but that goes with the territory. NO virus protections or anythng else,JUST NOT opening any attatchemnets and we are ALL o.k.??? Is that right? Thanks!

Since I don't use Outlook Express I have not had any problems with viruses. And I sure don't miss getting 400 e-mails of trash an hour. I use Yahoo and dump all the Bulk mail automatically.

wrightsracing - I found it!

if you go into OE....
click on "Tools"
click on "Message Rules"
click on "Mail"
check the box next to "when the message has an attachment"
check "delete it"
then click "okay"

This will send all the mail with attachments to your "Deleted" file - pretty nifty, considering I had to get 17 in a row before I decided to figure out how to do it!

The way I had it set up before, all the attachments were removed from the emails - but I still would get the big yellow box - "hey! I caught this!" - from NIS

Sending emails with attachments does not speed up the process. Your virus scan will still come on to intercept the message. SoBigF seems to take longer than Klez to process and is prolific to say the least. The bounces people are getting back are from spoofed emails sent by the worm with their address spoofed as the sender. The fastest way to deal with this is if you have web access to your email delete the messages while they are still on your ISP's server. Many ISP's offer total blocking for spam with an exceptions list. It's a pain but I've turned mine on as I was getting better than 40 infected emails per hour (normal for me is 2 or 3). Today has turned into a real pain in the butt (email wise anyway).
