Whats your pet peeve with ebay, buyers, internet, ISP's, whatever?

Mine is that AOL users cannot spell. I am not a stickler for spelling most of the time, but one thing that really annoys me is the use of "noone" to mean "no one." I cant stand looking at that! Its like Noon'ie. That is sh** you should have learned in the third grade!

hahaha

I hate getting emails where the writer is too frickin' lazy to capitalize the pronoun 'I'. ( ex: i will send payment soon )

Not acknowledging my emails and making me guess as to whether they are going to pay or not! My terms state to reply to my WBN within 3 days. Most do, but there are those few that I never hear from. A check mysteriously shows up in the mail. If I don't contact them, wham they would sock it to me. But, contacting me is apparently optional.

Sellers who do all caps in their auctions...

Sellers who make negative remarks in their auctions...

Sellers who come across like they are doing you a favor for even shipping your item...

Buyers who tell you how much they are going to pay for shipping...

Buyers who never pay....

Buyers who ask a question, get an answer and then complain about it....

Yep could be a loooong list...

Yikes! I am an AOL user and an English major. I type so poorly, and am usually in such a hurry, that if the "I" pronoun comes out in lower case, so be it! Ever hear of ee cummings?

Twelve: I list in caps for the same reason. My AUcTioNs wouLD lOOk lIke THiS (one of my pet peeves) if I didn't list in caps.

My pet peeve on this board is spelling "category" as "catagory". Also misusing homonyms: "their" and "there" and "to", "two" and "too" etc

1.Non paying bidders
2.Payments that arrive with no item#, description for what it's for, etc., allowing me to waste my time playing detective.
3. Getting strung along by a bidder who doesn't intend to pay you in the first place.(Although I do find it funny with some of the excuses they can come up with. If only they would pay that much effort in actually paying for the item).
4.People who send individual paypal payments for multiple items, instead of ONE payment for the total as stated in my EOA notice, allowing me to be overcharged on the paypal fees.
5.Payments that arrive with horrible handwriting so I can try to decipher the shipping address that may as well have been written in Chinese.
6. Having to RESEND the EOA email to bidders who don't bother to read their emails, or they would notice I ALREADY sent the EOA info.
7. Ebay's feedback system. (A whole other thread), that allows a non paying bidder to leave feedback after final value credit.

Ebay clothes sellers that:

a) photograph their clothes laying on the floor, doesn't matter if it's carpet wood or linoleum, I will pass on that auction every time, I know what a floor looks like.

b) advertise "never been worn" and then they photograph it ON a human body.

c) don't bother to measure their clothes. I hate having to email to say "what is the waist size?"

People who type their address in paypal, all in lowercase letters. I normally copy and paste from there into my management program for invoices and shipping labels, and I have to go through and capitalize what should be, because *I* don't want to look like a moron who didn't learn how to address an envelope in grade school. Funny how minor things can end up having the same effect as fingernails down a chalkboard

And everyone's favorite: The mysterious check that arrives with no auction information (of course they're the ones that didn't reply to your WBN so you can't match up addresses) that you get to guess which auction they might have won.

And, "SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY!" You just *know* that guy who was out joy-riding on ebay is going to skip that auction, cuz gee, they only allow SERIOUS BIDDERS!!

Sellers that have no description, just one photo instead. That way when the 'estate sale ring' arrives thst you won and it's plastic and not even metal you look like a fool.

Any TOS more than one or two brief paragraphs. Is it ebay or law school?

Sellers who lie about an item in the auction by telling you it sells for an unheard price that you couldn't get for it if you tried. Then they make the statement if you buy this item off another Seller it won't be as good, theirs is a phoney...the truth is they bought this merchandise from the very same company you did. Then they call the item something it isn't and tell you it can be used for stuff that it can't.They ruin sales for all sellers with all the BS. I would not buy from a Seller that does that,if they gave me the item and shipped it free.

Ace:

I've been struggling for 3 years trying to come up with a short TOS -- and, I JUST CAN'T DO IT!

I think the best time to inform bidders of one's policies is IN THE auction -- BEFORE they have placed a bid!

I'm trying to avoid all those email tag arguments about shipping & payment, etc:

SO: my TOS is divided into SECTIONS -- one about DOMESTIC SHIPPING, & one about INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING, & one about DOMESTIC PAYMENTS, and one about INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS...

I keep revising my TOS every week, cutting the verbiage & correcting spelling & grammar errors, but I still end up with a LONG LONG TOS

OTOH: I haven't had a shipping discussion for 18 mos

I'm not Ace, but here's my TOS or really just the end of my listing. I have maybe three deadbeats a year, no hot checks (knocking on wood) and no arguments about shipping price. I do get international bidders who can't read but I guess that just goes with the territory. Anyway, here's all I have to say regarding payment and shipping:

High bidder to pay $6.00 for S&H. (of course this is for the movie posters, my postcards are only $1.50)

Sorry, but I no longer ship outside the USA. (this one is in large red letters in my ad)

Money orders or personal checks are OK, but I also accept credit card payments through Paypal. Personal checks will not hold up shipment if you have a good ebay rating. (actually, I never hold shipping for check to clear but I don't want them to know that if I should decide to for some reason)

------------THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!---------------

Actually, it is left over from the days when there were no Paypal logo's (many years ago) and I just never changed it. If it ain't broke and all....but I do hate those long long TOS. If the seller has that much trouble getting payment from a sale then I suspect problems somewhere down the line. An unfair assumption, but I have sold everything under the sun from crafts to lp's and I just don't have a big problem.

Except the international bidders. Half will turn out to be deadbeats, a fourth want me to lie on the paperwork, and the other fourth just aren't worth my trouble to deal with the first 3/4.

So, that is my pet peeve. International bidders who bid anyway even though I clearly state I do not ship outside the USA.

Linda: A friendly suggestion--take the apostrophe out of THANKS. Not "Thank's"!!!

My pet peeves are "petty peeves," but here goes:

My pet peeves: e-mail addresses with the number 1 (hard to distinguish from a small L) or with lines __ between words which you can't see because Ebay has underlined the whole address.

ALSO: People who don't space after a period at the end of a sentence. I know this is petty but it makes the lines of type harder to read. It's obvious those folks never took typing in school--that's one of the first rules we learned 'way back when.

Wow, all of you have some good ones that I am nodding my head to while reading them.

Jack, haha I like your TOS the best, SEND MONEY NOW.

I forgot to add buyers who don't pay for shipping then want to do another paypal trans. (or did twelve mention that?)

Glassgirl: I too, don't like when the clothes sellers do that. What are they thinking? Or when they have a "Lot" and fold all of them on top of each other so you can't get any idea of what each of the them look like.

Sellers who add me to their mailing list without permission. Just because I bought a top from you once doesn't mean I want an email everytime you list something new on ebay or in your ebay store!

ihula,
You know, they have been doing that retail for some time now, too. Went in one store bought something cash. They wanted my phone# address, etc., etc. I told the clerk I didn't feel comfortable with all that. (God, you can't even walk in pay cash and walk out without them wanting to know your life story!!)

Tom: Only problem with long tos is people will not bother to read it most times. I dont mind if its wordy, as long as its presented in a way that I can scan through it and get the gist of it. ( Your auctions that I've seen, are are pretty easy to scan through.)

Another peeve, people that do not read or comprehend what they read.

Example:

You have 3 lines, one is tooooooo long! Work on it! Ace can do it in 2 short ones.

I actually wrote:

Any TOS more than one or two brief paragraphs. Is it ebay or law school?

A sentence can possibly be a paragraph I suppose.

My TOS and Shipping look like something this this: { KISS } Keep It Simple Stupid

-----------

Winning bidder agrees to pay $3.00 for Media Mail.

I gladly accept payment through PayPal or BidPay for immediate delivery *** also personal checks and money orders.

___________

How many people read a long and drawn out TOS? 5%? Less? How many new ebay buyers try to read some super long TOS and decide that ebay is not for them?
