Thank you all for your comments so far. Good range of opinions.

Overall, I prefer if customer uses checkout. If they don't then i do not reprimand them nor do I force customers to use check out or give a refund...just not a good way to do business.

I also check my paypal account for payments.

1: for person who pay through paypal directly and

2: for those who complete check out and then go to paypal to pay.

I do it because its necessary and I want to ship my items out to customers on time. But it would be cooler to have everything in vendio and not have to do things manually.

Like some one said earlier you've got to check both vendio and paypal because you never know what can happen with any one system.

I agree with someone earlier: For me vendio checkout represents the check out system for a small ebay/market place business. Large retailers have their customers fill in check out information and all is well.

I'd still like to know how others use vendio.

Hi Carol,

I use Vendio for image hosting, auction preparation/scheduling, counters and this board.

Mainly for picture hosting and listing auctions.
I always use other means for emailing payment, as well as VENDIO, I use Ebay too.

That way, it gives the buyer an option.

Don't fool yourself into thinking an emailed WBN with a checkout link has any similarity a real, online retail store.

When I buy at Amazon, I don't have to wait around for an email with instructions on how to complete the transaction.

I make a selection, fill in my info and I'm done. I can then buy hundreds of items from amazon and never have to fill out my information again.

When I go to an auction I don't have to provide the owner of every lot I buy my personal information. I simply register once, then I can make one payment for dozens of lots.

The Pay now with paypal button is the closest thing sellers have to a real business checkout or a real auction situation in regards to payment.

Most buyers are already registered with the "auction clerk" (AKA paypal) and like in a real auction they visit the clerk (not the owner of the lot) to pay.

If you want buyers to treat you like a "real" business, then get a private merchant account and setup a private secure checkout with a company like verisign.

I refuse to use the vendio checkout when I purchase something. I think it's a complete and total waste. My info is in the paypal payment notice the seller receives. Why should I do the seller's bookkeeping?

No way am I subjecting my customers to that. A simple excel database is all you should need to keep your sales info straight.

It wouldn't be fooling oneself as much as facing reality.

I am a seller on ebay -- a small business. I spell out what is required to make a purchase beforehand. Good customers will follow the procedures. A few bad apples won't.

Regardless, Vendio checkout is a breeze and quite convenient for the customer -- plus it allows a means for the seller to communicate shipping and payment information to the customer. A great solution!

You can balk all you want -- and fortunately, you aren't a customer of mine. But if you were, and expressed this child-like refusal to do your part, then of course, as a good seller, I would hold your hand through the process and enter your information for you.

Nothing about bookkeeping. It's called COMMUNICATION. You are communicating via the channel set-up for the exchange by the seller the information necessary for the transaction to take place.

If you payment method incidentally includes a shipping address, then fine. But you still should do your part and communicate properly to the seller.

Fortunately, the majority of customers don't have this lazy attitude.

I am sorry if this has already been addressed - did not read the whole thread carefully.

fvhoppes - you CAN get PayPal to update your records to "paid" and get all the pertinent information automatically. You just have to change your PP notification to vendio address and then vendio will be updated (you still will get an email from PP) and the "3" box (paid) in the post-sale system will be updated and the address etc will be filled in. Then you wouldnt have to worry about scaring away potential buyers by insisting on VD checkout.

It's called COMMUNICATIONYes,I really do think that communications is the key. I post all of about check out and payment procedures in the auction. I think that its all simple and Majority of my customers read it. It really depends on the customer. Some will read and some won't.

If you want buyers to treat you like a "real" business, then get a private merchant account and setup a private secure checkout with a company like verisign.

I will soon be having a merchant accout but the user will still have to follow checkout procedures in order for it to work correctly.

When I go to an auction I don't have to provide the owner of every lot I buy my personal information. I simply register once, then I can make one payment for dozens of lots.

Hmm that's a feature that vendio should add automatically fill in a previous buyers adress and info if they use your check out once. As well as the option to change the address if needed.

Obviously there is a huge difference of opinion.

It is my opinion that sellers who want me to use checkout are lazy and want me to take my time to do their work for them.

It is apparently the sellers who love checkouts opinion that buyers like me who refuse to are lazy so they are forced to do my job for me.

Like many other things discussed here, there will probably never be a meeting of the minds. But, I list 200 items a week (this week 600) on ebay and I would never argue, or put down a bidder who pays me within minutes of auction ends. I will go from there and be happy while I do!

As far as cutting down on mistakes goes, are some sellers so careless they can't copy and paste an address correctly? I don't think so! And, since Paypal has confirmed addresses if that is incorrect it certainly wouldn't be your fault.

I think you are grasping at straws to make your position "right".

Well we agree there. In fact, I don't think anyone once said they wouldn't work with a lazy buyer or accept their payments.

Sellers, please keep using those Andale and Vendio and other checkouts! The other sellers need the customers that refuse to bid on your auctions because of the checkout.
