Just mailed a Paypal paid item to Osaka, Japan today. Worked out just like any other Paypal sale except we had to work out mailing charge of which there were at least 3 options. She chose the very cheapest which was only a couple bucks more than it would cost to send it within U.S.

So, nothing abnormally different. I just hope it gets to her okay.

you get no seller protection for shipping item to japan.
but japanese bidders are so far so good, dunno what they will do next year when the lunar calender switched to a new zodiac animal??
if you dont feel comfy, tell them to use bidpay. or they can get us money order from their japanese post office.
you can either cash it at your post office or deposit in your bank account, ask your bank if there is a fee.

Be wary of using Surface Mail to Pacific Rim nations, it can take several months and if anything ever gets lost it tends to be Surface Mail packages. I will no longer ship that way.
The Japanese buyers are by far the nicest international buyers.

Accepting PayPal from international buyers gives you no protection from fraud. However you will find that people from Japan are some of the most friendly people you will ever deal with. It is best to ship via the US Postal Service via Air Mail. It is a fairly cheap service and most parcels are delivered within 14 days or sooner. One thing about any shipping is the longer the shipping company has it, the better the chances of it getting lost.

I've had no problem with Japanese buyers or any others, for that matter, overseas. They seem to be more savvy on how ebay works, etc. I've never had one ask for surface shipping, though--takes too dang long.
