Jackswebb,

Sign into your PayPal account. Click HELP up on the top right.

Then ask the question: Downgrade to a personal account

It will come up with a list. The 3rd thing down on the list I got was: Can I downgrade my account? click on that and you will get the following:

Can I downgrade my account?

If you downgrade your account, you will lose access to all of PayPal's Premium Features, including:
The ability to accept credit card payments
Access to our Customer Service hotline, open 7-days-a-week, from 4:00 AM PST to 10:00 PM PST
Coverage under PayPal's Seller Protection Policy
The ability to create PayPal Shopping Cart buttons
Instant access to the funds in your PayPal account with the PayPal ATM/Debit Card
If you would still like to downgrade to a Personal account, click here. Please include 'Account Downgrade' in the Subject line. Note: If you are doing business online you are required to have a Premier or Business account. In addition, no fees will be refunded

If you do this, there is a "click here" to downgrade link in the above paragraph.

They bury the downgrade info.

HAHAHAHA, There will still be a pay pal they just won't be stealing from ME anymore. Before THEY had me upgrade I always left a sizable amount of money in my account as I was thanking them for their Free Services a kind of Thank you. They collected interest off my money and now they are welcome to continue to make money from me from interest again.

I am just Soooooooooo happy!

fluffy, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Oh, I am. Deeply.

You know, you often remind me of the lobster in the boiling pot of water who tries to prevent the others from climbing out.

Thank you for the answer Fluffy. Here's another question. If there's a sending limit of $2000, then what do you do with the money that's accumulated in your Paypal account over $2000. Where do you send it?

To the Former SysAdmin Retirement Home?

I think it was LifeIzGood said there was a $2000 sending limit. I'm not sure where she got that figure. But the sending limit refers to money you send to another PayPal member, not to withdrawals.

The only limit I could find was a $10,000 transaction limit and I'm sure we can all figure out why that's in place.

A Warning about down grading your PP acct.

This is a email I recd from a bidder, a Deadbeat bidder who was lazy.Buyer says"I only use paypal".Funny, PP is a payment option for my auctions.

I don't know why you have this stipulation on paypal but it is a pain in the ass. Unfortunately, my husband did not see it when he bid. I thought paypal was around to make things easier, then there's #*!@ like this.

You have been fully warned.

Did any one else know that if you put a cuss word in... it takes it out...#*!@

OK, took me awhile to find it again, but here is the info on the $2000.00 sending limit I spoke of earlier.

You can find it by going to PayPal.com and clicking on HELP on the top right. Then in the question area put in: What is the maximum amount I can send with my paypal account. It was the top question on the list...just click on it and you will see the below:

Making Payments - Limits

What is the maximum amount I can send with my PayPal account?

For security reasons, you will not be able to use your PayPal account to send money until you have added a credit card. Once you have added a credit card to your PayPal account, your Sending Limit will be increased to $2,000.00 USD. This limit applies to all payments regardless of how the payment is funded or to whom the payment is sent. Once you send payments totaling $2,000.00 USD, you will no longer be able to send payments until you lift your Sending Limit by becoming a Verified Member of PayPal. You can view your Sending Limit from your account overview. Show me To lift your Sending Limit, add and Confirm a bank account.
Note: Some accounts are subject to a lower sending limit, determined by PayPal. These limits are subject to change and can be lifted by Confirming a bank account.

Another question for you, if I DownGrade to a Personnal account, will PayPal still charge fees on my account like they do now? I think that the fees are very, very high.

Thanks again for all your information.

The key here is "Verified". Verified means that paypal has confirmed that you are who you are and the payment is actually coming from you. This is NOT the same as a Business or Premier account which is what most of this post is about. Business and Premier accounts are generally for sellers receiving money. They usually will be verified as well as there is a withdrawal limit on non-verified accounts.

Buyers need to get verified to confirm that the funds being sent are acutally from them. That is why the spending limit. In the case of stolen funds, at least there is a cap of how much can be spent. Although $2000 is a good chunk of change, in most cases it will not bankrupt a potential victim.

Jackswebb,

Your welcome!!

I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times before. Just figured most people know.

The only draw back that I have noticed (it's not really that bad) is that I do have some people that just don't read (now where have I heard that before) and pay me with a Credit Card. You will still get a message from PayPal that you have received a payment (sometimes it will tell you that you have to go to your account to accept it and sometimes it doesn't mention it), but you will want to make sure by going to your PayPal account. If you see an accept or deny next to the payment then click on details and it will tell you if it's a Credit Card payment. Then you just hit the deny and you will have to let your buyer know. If you see completed in the box, then you are all set usually. I do my best to tell them how to verify and then they can send me the payment using their bank account. Doesn't happen too often, but it can take a little explaining.

Some buyers seem to have no real idea how PayPal works but I do my best to explain. Then they either send it the correct way or mail a money order or check.

Either way, there are no fees with the Personal Account.

anyone can verify your account if they know how much paypal has deposited into your bank account.paypal makes 2 deposits in your bank account, once you know what the amounts are,you go back to paypal site and type them in.
downgrading to personal account and not accepting credit card payments is asking your bidders to cough up cash, the problem is that not all bidders have that cash on hand, hence they use the credit card.
so you could lose sales if they are not willing to part with their cash or they just simply dont have the cash on hand.

So if a seller is not accepting checks or money orders and no longer accepts credit cards through pay pal, how do they expect to get paid?

It is bad enough getting some buyers to pay, let alone think they will start a pay pal account just to transfer money.

The idea is sound, but think future problems could be very bad.

People can still fund their PayPal accounts with money from their savings or personal accounts, by electronic transfer. You can take that money, no problem. They can still use e-checks which take 3-4 business days to clear.

The ONLY payments you can't accept are Debit and Credit cards with Downgraded Status.

Keep your account free of fees, the interest isn't worth it. Add up the fees you have given to PayPal in the past month and see for yourself.

Life is real Good now..........

The problem with "funding" a pay pal account with a bank account is they have access to it also...

It will be interesting to see how this works for folks...

Must be a rush. PayPal is DOWN! I'm trying
to get in to downgrade (had my first
chargeback today). Confirmed delivery in
October, but they insist I am NOT covered,
so what the HE-double hockey sticks do I need
their protection plan for? And I'm paying
them fees for what purpose? So I can be
ripped off by a liar with a CC! Not anymore!

Now, if I can just get in to my account...
