Hey Jack, I bet when the ground shakes you get nervious. I would rather be living in Wisconsin than swimming in the ocean.

Here's the reason I live in California instead of Oregon.

Some areas of Portland are not that bad, but we are right near the Columbia River gorge

Where? I was born and raised in Hood River.

You have my sympathies ebayvet..no not really! I am loving the Oregon weather this year..for the past 30 years I have been hearing from my mom about the daffodils in February while I look out my windows at the frozen tundra! THIS YEAR I can say it is SUNNY in Minnesota where we walk on water..ya! YOU BETCHA! Three cheers! The ice is thick enough to build the ICE PALACE!

Right on the Gresham/Troutdale border. Hood River is nice, they are really getting it though with this weather. I84 was shut down for a couple of days too...

Wow, sounds like the ice storm we had, oh what was it, 35 years ago or so. I-84 was closed for some days. Some of the stores ran out of food. Lots of damage to the orchards as tree branches would break under the weight of the ice.

We got to stay home from school but that wasn't as much fun as we thought it would be.

When I'm referencing stuff that happened 35 years ago as if it were yesterday I know I am now officially old.

Snow days sound like fun, but tomorrow is the 5th day we are stuck at home. Thankfully we made a large grocery store trip before the storm, but some new food would be nice. I've basically not been outside since Monday, definitely feel like I am under house arrest! It is still right below freezing here (and high winds too) so leaving the house tomorrow seems unlikely. I heard they recently opened I84, but PDX is now closed for 2 1/2 days and still closed. Poor people stuck there, sleeping at the airport, yuck! Definitely makes me feel like I have nothing to really complain about, I have a house, electricity, and food, all is well.

My igloo was a bit cold last weekend when the Arctic winds blew. Today I had to 4 X 4 it in the snow for the first time this winter. But the bulbs are up by the end of February each year so life is good.

I moved from Maryland to Central New York state last June, upon retiring. Not Florida, not Arizona, but rural New York. This area gets all the lake effect snow from Lake Ontario, we have had three blizzards already. This morning, it is minus 9 degrees outside. But I love it here. They are so good at clearing roads, the snow isn't much of a problem. I invested in some L. L. Bean gear, which keeps me warm enough for trips to the post office and supermarket. What I mostly enjoy is how people are so friendly and down to earth, which is a refreshing change from the Washington-Baltimore area. People still don't lock their cars here. And the summers are great.

I just got back from taking the little darling to school, and boy oh boy is it ever sleeting! Don't know why I bothered dropping him off - they will dismiss school by noon LOL

I'm at the beach in SC, and everyone here PANICS when we get wintry weather (which is very infrequent) - EVERYTHING closes down at the first snowflake! LOLOL

The sleet is supposed to turn to snow later today and continue through the night - with no accumulation - so we should be okay

Still stuck in, fortunately a neighbor with 4WD took me to the post office. Also, the airport is open again, so packages can get out. I know next week I will be dealing with a lot of "I haven't received my package yet" email - Hoping tomorrow I can get out on my own...

Whine, whine, whine. What do you mean you can't get out? All you got was a love tap. Around these parts, that is another ordinary day. Great for building Winter Carnival Ice Castles. Watch the NHL All Star Game this year. You will see.

Ok, to be a little more fair, we here in Minnesota are equiped for it. I have family in Oregon as well, and I do know that they are not equiped to handle ice storms like that.

Just heard on the news that California researchers have disclosed that people who live in cooler climates are slimmer and live longer. Guess they must burn more calories shivering and shoveling snow?
