I know the feeling! Our Daisy gets her listening skills from my little one, I think LOL It's like I am talking to myself all the time!

Seeing the photos of your Daisy makes me want to talk the little guy into a big dog - our Daisy only weighs around 12 pounds! I have always had small dogs, but after seeing your Daisy...well.....

I am still heartbroken on the puppy today. We have been talking about what were going to name a puppy when we got it, and my son has been saying "Oliver" - so no Oliver this time (and yes, Oliver is a TTE train LOL )

And Oliver is the name of the dog that Pierre replaced! Pretty coincidental if you ask me! LOL

Great Pyrenees are VERY big dogs. Daisy will probably tip the scales between 125 & 150 lbs when she is full grown. She is absolutely gentle with the children. But the hair...oh, the hair!

That is so funny! Any Thomas fans in your family, by chance? LOL!

Well, my house gets vacuumed at least every other day - my allergies and dog hair just don't get along! Amazing the little dog isn't bald!

Have you looked in any of the monthly dog publications such as Dog World etc? There are a lot of kennels that advertise their puppies there and not all puppies of show quality parents are show quality themselves. A lot are sold with the breeder stating that they are pet quality. If the breeder has a good reputation you save yourself a lot of misery.

Thank you, Roadsmith!

We were on our way home in the car, and my little boy was holding the puppy in his lap; and he said, "Mom, this is the best part of my 6-year-old life. Thank you so much for buying me a best friend." It was all I could do to keep from bursting out in tears! That made it all worth while!

I'm very pleased for all who have found their puppies and dogs through the breeder and rescue groups. I work with several rescue groups in my area and the number of dogs available is staggering.

PLEASE!!! When looking for an adult dog or puppy DO NOT go to backyard breeders or retail establishments such as Petland. These dogs come from puppymills-you don't even want to know how bad puppymills can be. If anyone is thinking about purchasing a dog from a backyard breeder or retail establishment please look at the website www.pssr.org and check out the photos of the puppymill we busted. This will give you some sort of idea what these babies go through.

If anyone is looking for a dog in the Ohio-Kentucky or Indiana area keep me in mind. I have an extensive list of rescue orginizations that I could set you up with.

Bless all of you who take such good care of their canine or feline babies.

Amen Capolady!

Wish you all the best on your new "baby" wgm!

J
I worked at a shelter and have had to put dogs and cats down...it's just not right that people breed dogs because they "love them" "want to show kids the miracle of life" "didn't know they could get pregnant" or worse "we only spay the females"

For you insecure types, try:
http://www.neuticles.com/index1.html

Sorry, it sucks putting down dogs. I have a "throwaway" because the "born again christian" used to "toss" her across the room when he was angry. Guess what? Now she's living the life she deserves...stylin'!

Sorry for the rant...ob-ebay..I buy greenies on ebay!

Thank you sue! Daisy is well, not very happy right now - but am sure she will come around. After all, she was in a cage with 6 other dogs at the shelter when we rescued her

toasted - he is a little bundle of energy, that's for sure! And I just love the "puppy breath"! LOL

cap and J - I couldn't agree more! Had I not been getting the puppy for my little boy, I would have definitely gone with a rescue!

Japerton: So true about having to put animals down! I was on a city council in Utah for 6 years. The Humane Society wasn't allowed to distribute spay and neuter pamphlets in the schools (because of fear it would lead to - gasp - birth control in humans?). Our animal shelter was putting down 6,000 dogs and cats a year.

I fought for a spay-neuter program sponsored by the city. My arguments were that, (1) it's inhumane to kill in those numbers, and (2) it is dehumanizing and degrading for the animal control people who have to do the killing--that we needed to do something to prevent their having to do such a load, and (3) such a program would save the city money in the long run. I tried to get the councilmembers to go to a "killing" but they wouldn't. They wouldn't even tour the facility where the animals were kept and then put down.

I never won this battle! One of the councilmembers, a woman, defended throwaway animals: "We've always let our girls have a summer kitten, and at the end of the summer we got rid of it." I could have puked.
