ok ok, if ltray is going to play I guess I will too.

glassgrl. I couldn't find anything Ebay would accept when I was picking a new name. At the time, I'd just started doing stained glass - glassrl. Funny thing is, most other websites I go to, that name is already taken. I've even found it on google - BUT that's not me!

speaking of names, here at the beach is the funniest one I think. every year at this time all the snowbirds descend upon us, and so they run buses to the condo's & motels. The name on the side of the bus is Denure tours. I can't help but look at it and read it as Denture Tours.

I wonder how many people know where Panama City Beach is or have been here? I'm a rare local. ltray & I went through hurricane Opal together<g> The national guard almost arrested us for driving around when they came to town!

I live in the greatlakes state.

Not a very original name, there are dozens of businesses in my area with Greatlakes in their name.

I must correct Glassgrl's post, re: Hurricane Opal...

The National Guard did not almost arrest us, they almost SHOT us!!!

I lived on Front Beach Road which was under extremely high secrurity to prevent looting.

Glassgrl and I forgot about curfew and headed down the road. We got about 1/4 mile before they surrounded us with weapons pulled!

Let's just say the Guard was not in a joking or flirting mood when we tried to play dumb blonde and sexy redhead.

Junebug-your price range? I know you were too
young then looking for a house, but we bought ours 10 years ago in July of 93.IBM was down sizing and everyone in East Fishill was selling their houses. We got a house with 4 bedrooms,3 baths,a kidney shaped inground swimming pool with a diving board and water slide, with 2 acres of land..for $173,000!!
Now its worth around $400,000-Im glad were not looking for a house now!

Classicrock000-
Tell me about the prices!
We bought a small vacation home 7 years ago - it's worth over 4x what we paid for it. The homes near the lighthouse (on Shore Rd.) are unbelievable, with unbelievable prices.
Have you tried WeNeedAVacation.com for rentals?

Greatlakes: I have a question! When I was a little girl, living in Chicago area, we used to vacation at a friend's cottage on Lake Michigan, in a little place called Palisades Park. Are you at all familiar with it? I can't find it by googling (there's another town by the same name on the East Coast). We would drive a few hours up the Michigan coast, through Indiana and then into Michigan, but my impression is that it isn't too far up into Michigan itself.

I know Classic-it is so insane-We had some trouble at first to where I had almost given up-Looking at garbage weekend after weekend but we were lucky enough to find a nice 3 bedroom cape-above ground pool-1/2 acre, new kitchen and bathroom for $235,00. We don't have any kids yet so it will be a nice starter and I can move my Ebay operation to the basement which I dont have now (i'm in condo). Hey I believe it about your house.. my parents have a house in Cold Spring..Bought it in 1979 for $40,000 now it appraised for $525,000. They are both retiring this year so they have quite a nest egg as you...

iceicepenguin

The penguin part started as a joke. A friend and I used to do the Monty Python "Penguin on the Telly" skit after we had a couple (too many) drinks. From that I acquired the nickname Penguin. People starting buying me all sorts of penguin items because of the nickname and I now have a very large collection.

When I started selling on Ebay penguin was taken as a user name. The Vanilla Ice song "Ice Ice Baby" happened to be playing on the radio. Eureka! A perfect fit. Ice Ice and penguin. Picture the Dancin' Baby as a penguin groovin' to the song. LOL

Roadsmith, yes, I know Palisades Park.

The reason you can't google it is because it's a subdivision (still mostly vacation homes), not a town.

There used to be a small store and a soda bar/cafe on the corner at the entrance to the park, but they've been gone for years.

Greatlakes: Thanks for the info on Palisades Park! Gee, it's hard to believe it's a subdivision now! What city is it adjacent to?? If I knew that, I could approximately locate the place on a map and finally have an idea where the heck it was.

In the late '40s it was a charming little cottage area. There was an open-air fruit stand/small grocery store and a big hotel. When WWII ended in August 1945 my brother and I (little bitty kids) took pots and pans and marched through the floors of the hotel banging on them to celebrate. (Can you imagine letting little kids leave your house 1000 ft. away and wander in a strange hotel NOW?!!) It was a totally magical place for both my brother and me, and I still "go to the cottage" in my mind if I'm having trouble getting to sleep.

I chose my name when my "babies" were ages 1 and 3. My husband was a workaholic. Even mommies need to sit in the corner and get a "timeout".... It is time for a new name now that they are all grown up (almost 6 and 8).

Roadsmith and greatlakes--I beg your pardon, but the REAL Palisades Park is, or I should say was, in New Jersey. It was THEE amusement park to go to in the late 50's and 60's.
Okay everyone start clapping-the rocks gonna sing)ahem-cough-cough

Last night I took a walk in the dark
A swinging place called Palisdades park
To have some find to see what I could see
Thats where the girls are, I took a ride on the shoop de shoo
The girl I sat besides was awful cute
and when we stopped she was holding hands with me.
My heart was flying up, like a rocket ship
down, like a roller coaster
fast like a loop de loop, and round
like a merry-go-round.
We ate a nade at a hotdog stand
we danced around to a rockin band
and when I could, I gave that girl a hug
....in the tunnel of love,
you never know how great a kiss can feel
when your stopped at the top of a ferris wheel
when I fell in love, down at Palisades Park
...down at Palisdes Park

Freddie "boom,boom" Cannon 1962(from Boston,Ma)
Hey pretty good heh? Thanks for the standing ovation-
Thank ya...Thank ya very much.
That was the REAL Palisades Park but it no longer exists...
30 years ago, they torn down paradise and put up a parking lot

Hey classic you and Kiara should do a duet. You beat me to the punch, boy do I remember Palisades Park, and you are right they put up a parking lot, isn't that a song also. Dick Clark era, I believe they would sometimes telecast live there with Freddie Cannon. Then do not forget going North a bit they tore down Freedomland for Co-op City.
