Why would a practicing attorney being selling on ebay? Don't they make at least $100 an hour?
What's your advice for an ebay seller being served paper through the mail from across the country? Fill out the forms and let the process take the course? Hire an attorney?

Ya know Tammysue, the rest of us here aren't trying to be uppity witches, ahem, in my opinion. I have admired the restraint from lawyer jokes that your attitude tends to invite. And nobody is recommending that this 'lawyer' have an 'accident'. I salute you non-members of the bar, hereinafter referred to as victims, for demonstrating civility. Now, Tammysue, put hubby-poo on here to give the ivory tower straight skinny, rather than what you think you heard him mumble. It should be amusing compared to our 'street savvy' experiences of reality.
And you get back in the kitchen and boss the servants around. Quietly, please, in my opinion.

parklane, Amen. You said more or less what I was thinking.
If tammysue has the answer to this why doesn't she just step in here and say so instead of sitting back and then coming by only long enough to to let us know she's gloating?

Hi, living here in Florida there are so many people that have retired, In my development alone I can count dentists, doctors, contractors, construction workers, lawyers, architects, salespeople, business people, insurance people, machine workers, accountants small business owners etc. The majority that have moved here do not practice there trade here because it does require taking grueling exams for licensing and certification, unless they come from a state that allows one to practice through reciprocity. A great deal of these people donate their time in their related fields of their expertise. One of our neighbors is a retired dentist and all he wants to do is play golf, donates a day a week to an agency that is set up to help children that need dental care and can not afford it, and he is a Wallmart greeter which he loves. by the way there are 3 retired lawyers, 1 man, 2 women, 1 of them sells collectibles at the local flea market and on ebay, also at auctions, the other donates their time to a soup kitchen and to their church thrift shop, the other donates their time to the local library, and he is interested in art and pottery and he sells at art shows.I personally believe collectively that there is a great deal of knowledge and expertise along with degrees and learning experiences from the school of hard Knocks to PH D's, these are merely suggestions and thoughts to help a fellow poster and seller, nothing is etched in stone. What people have done in their other life (pre-ebay) and they feel they can share what they have learned from it, is a great thing and I for one am grateful that I can come here for any purpose be it to vent, find out what I bought and haven't a clue, Have a chuckle, where else could I learn of $2 buck Chuck, and of course learn about cameras, free delivery confirmation, and many other sites that prove invaluable to increase my ebay sales. What my husband and I did prior to our retirement would never be thrown around in a gloating teasing manner unless we planned on assisting others with what we felt we can contribute.

Many of them "charge" $100 or more an hour. But charging and having clients are two different things. 98% are lucky just to make a living. 2% are celebrity lawyers or partners in prestigious firms and pull down the lions share of the money. And then there are the lucky half dozen or so a year who have a slam dunk high damages case that walks through their door.
US Postmasters make more than 98% of lawyers.
And the amazing thing is that law schools just keep churning them out.

yes, back in the 90s,american bar assoc complained that the nation law school should not churn out so many lawyers.
but law school is a lucretive business, the only big capital outlay is the law library, the student tuition pays for more than just school and professor expense.
many lawyers hustle on their own, hence the name ambulance chaser, they will tell you they charge 100-150 an hour, but are they really getting it??

I'm glad that most of the lawyers do not make squat then.
The 'People's Lawyer' on TV looks and sounds fruity too.

Let me be blunt.
Parklane64: You comments are, in the best light to you, ignorant, and worst incredibly sexist. I'm a HS teacher. I use eBay to help supplement my income, which from the state, will not put you in the 35% bracket. I have a BA from UNC-Chapel Hill and ME from the same. I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Thankfully, my husband loves cooking as a hobby, having attended one of the CIA courses (no, dummy, that has nothing to do with the intelligence community).
Bring you best lawyer jokes. My husband loves 'em. And, he has some great client jokes as well.

And yes, sorry not an English teacher. I teach just numbers...as math. Just those stupid kind of things that our kids, for some reason, lack. Boring, I am sure, compared to what you do.

I may be wrong, but isn't community suppose to support. granted I am fairly new. I guess I am just naive, I hoped I would find bits of wisdom.
But, I find this all to unreal. No meat, just a lot of gravy. have a good day.

Reamond - yo might want to reconsider some of those numbers. I think you forgot about entertainment law, not to mention immigration law. Both are high earning fields that don't require being a superstar.

hello tammysue
my curiosity again:
your references to your lawyer-husband's bank deposits;;; and that 99% of the people are pseudo-legaleagles was the first of the offensive threads..so "he chuckled," you stated...then i think you made another comment about not only knowing jokes, he knows some client jokes..do you honestly believe you can make arrogant statements like this, and they go unnoticed..
i give everyone the benefit of the doubt..that is why i wonder if you maybe typed that thread to see how many ires you would raise..its one thing to brag about your husband; and i even dont think it is such bad taste to "laud thyself." i have daughter, north carolina trained, who is a doctor - i very proud-i brag about her[even as i write this!] but i never never never talk about her checkbook - she doesnt either..and, if she knows some patient jokes, she's never told them..
..and i quote you RE: your latest arrogance.
"This is a funny thread." and i dont think i can be acused of taking something out of context here; this statement is a paragraph all by itself..
..since you wanted to ascribe to this thread, why didnt your husband be a Good Samaritan, and offer his "legal advice."..instead this forum got a "go to hell" attitude from you...
..and you know what, i am sure chessguy would have appreciated hearing from a qualified person-i know i would have...
finally, i dont expect you to agree with this, my opinion..i just cannot imagine you sitting down among strangers and saying the same things you have said to us..

This place is full of armchair lawyers (as well as armchair appraisers, monday-morning quarterbacks and political theorists). This is to be expected. It is a public forum, and even though there may be good information presented here, it is still to be taken only as seriously as you would the discussions over beers at the local.
Even though people may initiate a discussion of a serious problem here, it is just that - a discussion. I am pretty sure that when the time comes, they do go to their doctor, lawyer, plumber, etc. for the appropriate remedies.
So when someone (who admittedly is following the discussion for self-entertainment)gets into a hissy-fit, just take it from where it comes. And if they can't take it, they should go take a dip in the cee-ment pond and cool off instead of posting here.

Morning:
Do I have the right topic?
Wasn't this about someone supposedly getting sued over negative feedback? Instead, the thread has degenerated to verbal battles between posters over side-line issues which really have no particular interest or relevance to the alleged incident.
We still have not heard from the original poster about the "serving of the papers." Did the buyer actually publish books and is he really an attorney? Does the seller really have a web-site with a fax number? Did this really happen?

brigittaw--------This is exactly what I am wondering, perhaps we'll learn today if this initial thread is all BS or for real. I have my doubts as well

you might hire an attorney to file a search warrant for a life.
no, dummy, that has nothing to do with the intelligence community
You may wish to hire one for an attitude adjustment program. You seem to have an anger control problem.
I sit back and see what chessguy has to say if the papers where really served or not. No one should have to go through all this baloney just for leaving feedback.
Add on.

No need to reconsider. Immigration doesn't pay that well, but there may be a few high performers that snare very wealthy immigrant clients with "special" problems. Think about it, most wealthy people don't want to immigrate to the US, they are lve like kings in their own country.
Including entertainment as well as sports agents we're still talking about the lucky 2%.
I have a neighbor that sells high end luxury cars and he told me that the single group that gets turned down the most for credit is lawyers.
