I know I am...

It's that time of the year. eBay is tanking and fast! One particular item I can think of off the top of my head sold for over $125 just over a month ago. This last week it's going for under $15.00.

Same as last year and the year before and the year before that and the year before that. Time for me to take a couple of months off from selling.

Looking forward to my grandchildren visiting for a month, then my youngest son's wedding the end of July.

This is a GREAT time to buy stuff to resell, which is what I'm doing now. I'm building a good-size inventory of a type of merchandise I've never sold before in any great volume. I think I'll start selling it in late summer, maybe the end of August?

It's the kind of thing people will want to buy to make gifts for Baby's First Christmas. That kind of thing.

Kinda nice, I can get my inventory in, take my pictures, do my research and have it ready to go.

Any thoughts on my timing?

Lucy

Sounds good, Lucy.

I'm going to wait until all the ebay sellers go on vacation and then I'm going to sell my stuff so I have all the buyers.

Welllllllll... To be honest, my auctions are doing PHENOMENAL!!! I can't keep up! I don't mean to gloat, but I think that little powersellers icon is going to be put on in just a short time now. I'm thrilled!!!

You're right Lucy, I recently picked up 2 figurines (popular name-deleted) that book at $375.00 each. Checked on ebay, they don't even get a $40.00 opening bid. Time to re-figure my strategy.

Very good timing, Lucy. I may take some time off, too.

Hi myoldtoy!!! And a big THANK YOU!!!! I got my sellers report and I'm just a couple of hundred dollars away from powerseller. I'm so thrilled!!! I got my most recent sales report and my sell through rate is 85%, but that was before it stepped it up to 10 auctions a day. I'll have to see what happens in a couple of months. I'm still THRIIIIIIIIIIILLLLED!!!!

All you guys who are gonna hang around can have the bidders I would have gotten! No big...

I'll wait until the fall when stuff gets better prices. Like I said, makes no sense to sell something for $15.00 if it will sell for over $100 when the time is right.

Of course if you depend on eBay for your income that's a whole different story.

bizz,
Could you please provide a link to one or some of your auctions, I'd love to see what you sell.

Absolutely no problem there, Lucy. I'll take 'em! My daughter needs to eat and her putz of a "father" (or should I say sperm donor) can't seem to cough up child support these days.

I try to go with the seasons. Now's the time I like to list sporting goods or garden items. Some breweriana items go good in the summer also, and some go great in the winter. I've had good luck with items in the Business and Industrial categories year around.

Lucy, you can have it both ways. List several sets of Jarts as three day auctions over the Fourth of July. You'll make a bundle, and when Ebay finds out what you did, they'll arrange for a 30 day vacation from selling for you

Sparkz, you been into the Two-Buck again? No way I'd list Jarts, even if I had any! Just too dumberino for me.

I'd rather take my vacation without eBay deciding when. I don't mess with eBay. If anything does come up I have a contact there who gives me the straight scoop. Tells me what to do and how and when. Takes very good care of me!

You're right about timing. I don't have any of the kind of stuff you're talking about but I'm building an inventory in a new area for me to kick off in late summer or early fall. No sense putting my new things up now when prices are tumbling. Might be there's a glut on the market but, whatever, I'll wait a while.

P.S. They shaking the trees yet?

Most years I've sold until partway into June but this year I may try selling a few things over the summer months and I'll see how it works. A couple of my friends sell almost non-stop year round and do quite well.

I agree that summer is a good time to stock up and I enjoy running to yard sales and flea markets and just being outdoors. I invested about $15 in my last yard sale finds several weeks back and resold them on ebay for about $400 so there's money to be made if you scout around.

You're right, Kiara. Now's the time to buy. I picked up over 100 nice pieces of vintage linen last weekend for $15.00. Lots of crochet stuff. I'll list them later on and will likely net a couple of hundred.

The key is in knowing what to buy and how to list it. There's one item I've bought for less than $5.00, three or four times. I put it on eBay with a BIN of $35. Sold every time at the BIN. Of course that's where keywords and the correct category comes in. After a few years you learn how to do it.

Leaving on Friday for an Alaskan Cruise, then off to Las Vegas for 10 days - Yeah, I am ready for a vacation. I have already started my ebay hiatus (that started around Memorial Day) but sales on half.com, ebay stores, and amazon have been great. Kinda hate to shut them down, but I will.

Email on the ship is 75 cents a MINUTE - Ouch! I think I am going to just completely disconnect, that will be hard for me, but I can't imagine paying that. Maybe I will find an internet cafe in some of the ports, we'll see

Hi everyone - congratulations Bizzy! I have had an enforced vacation since mid-May, when I fell and broke my arm and wrist. No way I could type stunning descriptions with only one hand. The cast comes off in five days - I can't wait! However, I have been buying for the fall. I was doing very well the first four months of the year, even got the magic e-mail from eBay. But things started going begging from about mid-April. I may try a couple of antique items, but I'm not listing my estate jewelry until the fall. Guess I'll just wear it until then. Besides, it's powwow season and my guy is a member of the Oneida Indian Nation and sells his wood carvings at these events. We'll be traveling a bit, to the Adirondacks, Niagara Falls, etc. Great fun and no "whining bidders" to deal with.

Hi earthmum and thank you. Sorry to hear of your broken arm. I can't imagine being in a cast for any length of time. My daughter had a broken arm and was in a cast for 7 weeks. That was a trying time for a 5 year old! Glad to hear that the cast is coming off in a few days!

I might try to take a few days off in July just to get away before we do the 127 yardsale. Right now I'm buying someone's inventory out and I might as well try to sell what I can as well as get ads done on all of it. Sales are o.k. so I guess I will keep on keeping on.

Yes. I'm ready for a vacation too. Only problem is that we just got back from a week in Maine and New Hampshire. Cool, no humidity to speak of, and beautiful views. Went to Kennebunkport, ME too. What a peaceful place to be. Louise

Hi Wonderful,

Sorry I haven't responded but I'm trying to keep up with 70 auctions a week and it really can be trying. I'm also trying to straighten out Ebays mess of an invoice that they are double invoicing me for. I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable putting out my auctions for all to see. I do very well within my little niche, but I suspect it is because it is something that I love to do. My best advice to you is to find something that you really LOVE and focus in on that particular field. I've learned what really sells in my field as well as what doesn't. If you would like some help with your auctions, just e-mail me at [email protected]. I would be more than happy to help you to tweak out your auctions so that you sell more and have a higher sell through rate.

Lucy -- What's the matter??? Are you in a bit of a "tizzy" yourself because you had one of your auctions pulled for copying my images and plagarizing my title??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?????

Hi Lucy, sales are really slow all around so it definitely seems a fine time to take off! I've been surfing and see it pretty much all over ebay, though I'd guess some standard things are still doing well. But in collectibles, it makes me wonder why people bother listing and listing...... I guess the chance of a sale is better than letting the stuff sit doing nothing? But I sure hope it bounces back late summer.
