I live in Miami, but it looks like it is going north of here but not by much. I am all shuttered and ready to hunker down

My father is in Port Charlotte, which as he describes, looks like a war zone already. They are currently here in Ohio and are worried sick about this one, too. The city cannot take another hit. His home was spared in the last one although his neighbor's homes were not.

When is it scheduled to hit?

I was looking at pictures on Yahoo and I can't even imagine how scary something like this would be.

It is so BIG! I heard that because of the size it might still do damage if it continutes across the state to the Gulf coast. Sure hope it does not hold together to get as far north as Maryland.

Best wishes for all of you in harm's way.

From what I have read in NOAA's predictions it is going to cross the state and then end up in the gulf and possibly gain again. I hope not!!! I hope everyone makes it okay through this one!

Just a quick note from me ...

Helga -- They can't. We are taking it hour by hour to see what is going to happen. Sometimes they get it right but sometimes the hurricane tricks everyone.

If no one hears from me for a while, it's because of the hurricane. Best of luck to everyone as we go through it. Hopefully, we'll all get out of this one without too much damage.

I'm in Martin County, which is North of Palm Beach County and South of St. Lucie County, in the crunch zone. Have been real busy preparing for several days; pretty much buttoned done now. We live in a Concrete Block home that was built in the 50's....probably as save here as anywhere. Would never attempt to get on the highways as I95 & the Turnpike are clogged. During Charley several of the evacuation centers had to be evacuated...not sure for how long we'll have power/internet or AIR CONDITIONING! which I really hate to lose..wish us luck.

My thoughts are certainly with all of you down in Florida, and hope you make it safely through Frances.

I just read on TWC that San Salvador took a direct hit and only reported sustained winds of 114 mph - while that is still pretty intense, it's a big difference from 145 or 140.

As goofy as this may sound, as I have been typing this a line from the Irish Blessing keeps running through my mind...

"may God hold you in the palm of his hand..."

Stay safe!!

You are all in my thoughts and prayers in Florida. they predict the eye to hit as a category 2 or 3. 100mph winds are a little to much for my blood. Hopefully they will be wrong!

Tom,

Glad to know you and Ralphie are okay.

As she said, Bizzy's watching and waiting. Hope all will be well with her.

Niel, you're in Miami, same as Bizzy.

Please keep us posted if you can.

No, not goofy at all, it was a very nice thought & is what Floridians need to hope for & I think he will.

My thoughts are with all of you & that sweet little boy, Ralphie.

Looks like Ralphie found a good bone. Lucky pooch. He's a cutie. Nina is confused with the shutters being up as dark in the house without all the lights on.

No ice or water yesterday afternoon but was out there at 7AM and got both, so we are set. It's very calm here right now. We might even go to the beach. Supposed to start up with the wind and rain late today or in the evening. Only 120 mph now. The Bahamas are catching hell right now.

My parents live in Winterhaven, halfway between Orlando and Tampa. They usually aren't affected by the storms, but Charley hit them hard, and they expect Frances to be worse.

Even worse that that, my son is on a cruise ship in the Caribbean and they are not even able to return to port on Saturday; they're staying out at sea. He can't call from the ship, but they do have email, so I'm staying close to the computer today!

Just a reminder, for those of you in the storm's path where there's a possibility of losing power, you might want to add a note to your auctions' descriptions that communications with winning bidders may be difficult to impossible for several days and ask them to be patient. It might also be a good idea to email bidders on closed auctions that shipping may be delayed for a few days.

I'm still holding my breath here in San Marco. We have 2 cars - one needs a break job and the other needs a water pump!!!! My husband working on them between rain drops.
Can you update that thingy?? Seems like the news people are leaving out where they predict it to land today?

Sounds like it's slowing down which is good news but I just wish it blow away altogether. I'm so nervous with this one for some reason. I guess everyone is? Even if we decided to leave - (and had a car to leave in) we don't know where to go?
Thanks for the updates.
