Any help is appreciated. It's a nice looking lamp, but I guess I'd have to say more about it than that

<IMG SRC="http://www.imagehost.vendio.com/bin/viewimage.x/00000000/cashinyourcloset/lamp1.jpg">

OKAY, scratch that thought; how do I get a link to images in here?

Thought I'd help out with your image:

Looks like a Gone with the Wind type of oil lamp but don't know anything more. I've only seen them with a top section that matches the bottom. Good luck, it's lovely.

HEY! How did you do that? There are two more images I wanted to show, and on the thought that if you give me a fish I won't be hungry for a day, but if you teach me how to fish, I blah blah blah.

Thanks for your help

Wonderful lamp - show the burner if you can. That will help date it.
I think it's a type of parlor lamp.
Is the bottom portion glass or porcelain?

Thanks Ralph, but I don't see any code, just a box with an X in it.

I think the base is painted porcelain, but I'm not sure. Is there a tell? BTW, what I know is home theater & other electronics; my knowledge of lamps could fit into a thimble.

Okay, I give up for the moment. When you first tried I cut and pasted into a new window and saw the wick area. Is says Fostoria Pat Aug ?? 88. right? If so that would be 1888 not 1988. So, I think that the globe is newer than the lamp. The globe looks like a 1960-80's pattern. I could be very wrong on this but... Beautiful Lamp!

I was getting the url from your little pizza boxes. The one that worked came from cta's picture, so the problem is with your url.

Yea! Now I am sure that the globe is a mismatch. It should have a large balloon globe with a tall chimney globe inside of it. If it were me, I would sell it without the globe. IMHO I have sold old oil lamps like these before in my B&M store with no globe and no problem. Collectors just go out and find replacements. WOW, what a neat lamp!

It looks like it all old to me. If the bottom is glass it's painted.
I think 1892 is your date.
I'm going to find my lamp book and see if I see anything about Fostoria in it. I think the Fostoria Glass Company was in business then but I don't think they made burners???
Be back in a minute?

i found an old lamps website that says this, regarding the 'fostoria' burners ...

"RESTORED ANTIQUE "FOSTORIA" LAMP BRAND FONT & BURNER
Restored Antique Solid-Brass "Fostoria Lamp Company" Extra-Fancy Grade Embossed Cap Font & Burner,... (Flame Spreader, Globe Ring, and Center Draft Wick sold Separately). These fonts were manufactured for The Fostoria Glass Company in Moundsville, West Virgina circa 1895-1910 by The Consolidated Lamp & Brass Company in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The Fostoria Glass Company used these fonts in their Extra-Fancy Grade Lamps and in their Persian Lamps (the Fostoria name for their red satin glass lamps). These fonts and burners are in excellent - fine restored condition, but are not supplied with their original cotton wicks and are not warranted nor are they guaranteed to either hold oil or burn oil and they are not recommended to use in their original oil burning fashion. These are sold for decorative and/or for restoration purposes only.
$ 195.00 - $ 255.00 each"

I didn't see anything in my book on lamps just like this but I think it's more of a banquet lamp instead of a parlor lamp. Kevin is probably right about the mismatch but it's still great. When are you listing it?

We're a bit behind in our listings (and just received 4 boxes of vintage Lionel trains on consignment !! !! ). I expect we'll list it right after Thanksgiving; I don't see us getting to it before then, but maybe we'll pull a late night and get rid of some of the backlog.

I'd be happy to let you know when we do.
