Just getting under way in Baltimore. Not too much yet but we went to a toy show and coming back there was some sliding on the streets. I will say that the dealers at the toy show were giving some great discounts, 30% to 50% off the marked price on everything we bought. They know that the buyers will get sparser as the snow gets deeper.
The forecast has gone from 12 to 8 inches so maybe it will not be too bad. My husband has to go to school this afternoon so I hope not.
Best wishes to the eBay Outlookers in the heavy snow area.

It's been snowing like crazy up here along Lake Erie. However, it's nothing we're not used to. We are one of the few places on earth that has to deal with lake effect snow (I live 1-1/2 miles south of the lake). On top of this storm, we'll have lake effect later today. Lake Erie has not frozen over yet. Once it does, we don't worry about the lake effect stuff anymore. The low has moved farther to the north than they expected so people in the Akron/Canton area won't get as much as they had thought. But, we will get more because they expect it (the low) to swing around tonight and cause the lake effect crap.
I can live with the snow. In fact, I have to go out later today and the Jeep loves it. It's the cold I can't stand. It's 18 out and the wind chill tonight is expected to go to -10 with blizzard-like conditions.
I don't think this snow is nearly the PIA the ice storms have been. There seems to be more accidents this morning than when we had the ice. Geesh. It's NE Ohio and it's snow. It's not like we're in the Florida Keys and have been hit by a blizzard. We should be used to this by now. Besides, this snow is the powdery stuff. The snows we've had this season have mostly been the wet heavy kind.
On the lighter side, it's simply beautiful outside! The trees are covered in white and it looks like a picture postcard for the time being. Once people really get out and about, it'll just look like a mushy mess!
Snow. You've gotta love it or leave the north.
Edited to add: STOP - our gas bill last month was $250. So far, we owe the gas company $700 for the season. It's over $11 per cubic whatever, which is outrageous to say the least. And, we keep our heat on 68!!!

yes sparkz it is still happening today and reminds me of when I was young and we had these snow storms. We have been lucky in S.E.Wisconsin as this is the first year in about 3 that this much snow as fallen. When you live in a state where there is supposed to be snow then let it snow not have 60 degree weather on New Years.
Looking out my window the snow is falling fast and the wind is blowing strong. I have no idea how much we have had but probably a foot. If I didn't have a bad hip I would be out there taking my granddaughter sleding. When it is snowing kids need to be out in it. Snow is to enjoy and I truly enjoy it.
I think, like Cheryl, some of this is Lake effect snow so it will probably be twice as bad.

Cheryl - I'm 30 miles east of Syracuse, NY, and we get plenty of lake effect snow from Lake Ontario. Yesterday morning it was 13 below zero, this morning 8 below zero; the wind chill this morning is 33 below zero. We are hunkerin' down for the blizzard. Syracuse is predicted to get a foot and out here in the boonies we ALWAYS get more than Syracuse. Right now, it's hovering on zero and the snow has just started falling. Oh, well - I made homemade chicken soup and we have plenty of staples. Since we're retired, it's no big deal to live in the tundra. I used to live outside Erie, PA, and remember the lake effect stuff, and people trying to walk across the frozen lake to Canada and having to be rescued (do they still do that?)

Cheryl and Libra...If you can get a good view, why dontcha aim your camera out the window and snap a couple pictures so we here on the West coast can refresh our memories as to what snow looks like?

Don't ya just love the lake effect snow? You almost breathe a sigh of relief when the weatherman says it's going to be a general snow. Meaning, everyone is going to get it! When they say lake effect, you get ready to hole up in the house for a while because the wind gets so intense!!! Yes, it's a joy living on the Great Lakes!
Do you have an almost constant breeze or wind in the spring and summer?
BTW, the birds are singing in my tree out back. The tree is right at my office window. If the windows weren't covered in plastic, I'd take a pic. So many birds, it seems, failed to fly south. I hope that means an early spring!!

Here is near Akron OH right now ... first two pics are of husband using the snowblower the kids bought for him this winter ... after doin' half the neighborhood, he sometimes comes home with $20 bills stickin' out of his coat pockets and bottles of wine or champagne tucked under his arm. LOL ...
........... and this is view out of the front picture window (aka my ebay office) ...
... in the few minutes I shot the pictures, the snow had let up ... while editing the pictures, we are hit with near a white-out again with high wind gusts ... it comes and goes ... hope your'e right Cheryl, akron/canton maybe not TOO bad as the day goes on ...

yay ... he made $20 and a plate of cookies so far ... LOL ... and he's heading out again, with the machine in the back of the minivan, to do a couple other around town (daugher, friend etc) ... I guess I better get busy ebaying so I can earn my keep 'round here too. ...
Be sure to tell him Ken and I said, "hello". We're waiting for our neighborhood kids to come around. They shovel the sidewalk and drive for $10. It's an honest way for them to make money. We have an equal mix of African American, White and Hispanic kids in the neighborhood. During a snow storm we don't see hide nor hair of the white or Hispanic kids. It's the African American kids that go door-to-door to shovel and they're pretty young. Either Ken or Mike could be shoveling our snow for free, but we like to give work to the kids in the neighborhood.
Here's some pics from our house. It's still snowing here:

EWww Cheryl, yes, you *do* have a few more inches of snow than we do! ... I can really tell by the drift on your back 'lil' barn! lol ...
Tom's back now, and added a fresh baked loaf of banana bread from my daughter to his grateful booty of the morning LOL ... he really does NOT want these people to give him stuff, because he just wants to be helpful, but often they just push their tangible 'thanks' on him ....
He's crashed on the bed right now with a Coke and some Advils. .... poor guy.

Anyone know how the weather will be in Washington DC on Sunday afternoon and all day Monday? My son is supposed to be going there with his entire school on buses tomorrow AM from Indiana traveling across Ohio, Pennsylvannia and on into Maryland. I think they are nuts....and quite frankly I'm about to "pull" my son from what appears to be a treacherous trip on a large motor bus. Not to mention the fact that they want them to "walk- in the Life to Right" march from the US Supreme Court Bldg to Union Station on Monday. YIKES...anyone live near or around? Tx (Warm with hot chocolate - wine - pork roast & tons of books ) ps - WHERE ARE THE EBAY BUYERS?????

What grade is your son in? IMO, having someone under the age of 18 walk in a Right to Life March is not very bright. There's a tendancy toward violence. Just my opinion. I wouldn't allow my children to march in something like that until they're old enough to decided what it is they believe.
Back to the topic, the whole of PA is under a winter storm warning. That's the entire state!! I doubt roads will be in good shape tomorrow.

I am in Maryland which is not far from DC. So far it has not been as bad as earlier warnings but the snow is not over and we should have more tonight. Things are being canceled here. We had a club dinner tomorrow that was put off till February and the weather cast says to stay off the roads.
Sounds like a really nasty day tomorrow with snow in the morning and high winds. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o

Lorelei2004, did your son's school take the trip to Wahington? It is Sunday morning here and the snow in Baltimore/Washington is not as deep as some of the forecasts but it is cold and windy. A lot of churches are closed today and many schools have canceled weekend activities.
Hope all of you in the northeast are staying safe.

It went from 70 degrees to 30 degrees here overnight!
I have to admit - having a fireplace is wonderful.
The power was out for 3 hours this morning, from 9 to 12. I think somebody must of hit a power pole or something as we didn't have phone service either.

We had 10 inches of snow here in S. Jersey. I live in a condo complex. My brother shovled the car out and did the walk ways. No one came out to help him or even thank him. I was so pissed about that. The fees we pay to the "association" are suppose to go towards snow removal. grrrrrrr hisssss hisssss
