LOL Favorites.. If you leave Vegas, never move to Southern Cal. Most of the things that you seem to hate about Vegas are things that I consider the norm after being in SoCal for over a decade. Luckily one of the things I don't have to take into effect when making my decision is family friedly/school enviroments as I am blissfully childless. Hey...that reminds me... anyone know if either of these cities allows adults only communities? (not referring to senior communities but rather ones that don't allow kids)

Fenix-"classic" can help you with that

There is another cool option, Laughlin Nevada or Bullhead City, AZ which both are growing wildly and are on the Colorado River one side with casino life on the other, small town feel with reasonable rent and excellent purchase for property at this time...JMHO...

Well, if you are used to everything I complained about, then come on down.
As stated by someone else, there are no state income taxes, you can always find something to do 24/7, and it's not all bad.
This summer may even be semi-OK. We are still enjoying 70s and low 80s temps when it is usually already hovering near 100 by mid March.
But, I forgot to mention the killer bees and the new problem with the freeway shootings. Second one happened last night. It was a woman this time. A man was killed a few months ago while driving home from his casino job.

I do know that they do exist in Pheonix. My grandparents, when they were still around, used to winter there. They lived in an adult only area. I won't be much help as far as the name as it was 20 years ago. Can't speak for Vegas, but with all of the developement there, it is possible.
One more thing to consider is the cost of water. Don't know what it costs in Phoenix, but in Vegas my brother is paying nearly $300.00 per month. Kind of strange to me as here in Minnesota we pay less than that for the whole year.

I don't know about the adult only areas. I know they had a nudist apartment complex when I first moved here (heard about it on the news....never checked it out. lol)
I have always either had children or grandchildren around so haven't checked into that.
Our water comes with the apartment rent so I don't have to pay that. (or worry about the yard).
Houses have doubled in price in the last two years here. Everyone is thrilled with the $$ they make when they sell but crying over the increase in the property values for taxes. We couldn't ever bring ourselves to believe we would be here this long so we have been paying rent for 15 years now Too expensive to buy anything now.
A 920 sq ft house sells for $220,000. Our apartment is much larger than that so guess we'll just stay put.

One more thing just occured to me. Is the airline you would be flying be a consideration as well? I know one airline uses both Vegas and Pheonix as their hub.

Stone - yes - I use America West. Phoenix is their primary hub. Funnny thing I was pricing a flight from Vegas to Guadalajara that connects thru Phoenix. Fantastic price but the really funny thing is that when I priced that exact same flight without the Vegas leg, it was actually more expensive.

America West was where I was going with that. Funny thing. I fly America West as well. Kind of strange though. From here in MN, if you want to go to Vegas, you will have a connecting flight through Pheonix. However, if you want to go to Pheonix, they connect you through Vegas. Figure that one out.

Stone...Talk about a weird scenario, we had this one for years: RT Bakersfield to Las Vegas - $149.00. RT Bakersfield to Houston - $69.00 with a layover in Vegas. Want to go to Vegas? Book a RT to Houston and hop of in Vegas. Abandon the LV to Houston and back leg and catch the LV to Bakersfield leg on the return. 50% discount off regular rates, thanks to the volume of traffic the oil companies provide the airline between HQ in Houston and the wells in Kern County.
