Ebay's outage policy is that they will extend any auctions ending during an outage for 24 hours, provided that the outage lasts at least 2 hours.

Now that's a pipe dream. Ebay taking care of its sellers. I haven't laughed this hard since Cowfarms last post on the RT.

Actually, there's a beer joint about 3 blocks down the road where they all hang out. Meg usually has to send Skippy down there to round up the soberest of the mob and bring them back to do their magic with bailing wire and duct tape.

Sorry I just noticed that the announcement of a short outage was on 05/05/05. No announcement today. I just tried Netscape and same results. Any idea when it crashed.

One possible explanation could be the weather. We have a major storm that hit the west coast last night and today. There have been numerous severe thunderstorms and at least 8 tornadoes this afternoon between Fresno and Redding. Totally unreal for California, and very likely to bring down power lines, communication links and satellite dishes. They don't build things out here to withstand mother nature the way they do in Kansas and Nebraska. If I worked for Ebay, that would be the most plausable excuse I could come up with. It will be interesting to see what line of BS Meg tries to feed the sellers who got hit tonight.

I just tried to post and received an error message that this thread had been locked. Guess we were all trying to post at the same time, lol.

Ebay is down in FL too.

Parts are back up -- but with problems... It says I have 25 items with questions - but when I click on it, it shows none.

Ugh -- so if part of it is back up - then I guess they made it under the 2 hour mark, huh?

Figures.

I have yet to be able to view an auction. Can run a search but none of the links work. I would not consider that a working site.

If you can't access an item, it can't be bid on, so they had better not try to weasel out of this one.

Pages still cannot be viewed so perhaps ebay will extend auctions. Last announcement I see on system staus was 5/05 and today is the 9th so that must be down too.

It's now been over two hours, so they should extend all auctions that closed during the outage. There's no doubt in my mind that they will try to worm their way out of it somehow. But even if they do extend auctions, what about the sellers who had auctions scheduled to launch during that window? The staff at Ebay now will probably say too bad. The staff at Ebay when I joined, when Piere was at the helm, would most likely have soothed all the ruffled feathers by having a free listing day. Shows how much Ebay has "advanced".

***Site Issues Update***
Date: 05/09/05 Time: 09:52:12 PM PDT

eBay experienced a power outage at a priniciple hosting facility in the Bay Area. Some eBay functions and listings are now available, and we are working to fully restore the rest of the site. We will keep you updated on progress, and we appreciate your patience.

I saw an announcement earlier about the outage, now it is gone. The only thing I see is an announcement for Ebay Motors special listing day. It is odd we all get different announcements.

Still down...
